Moss Pit with a 11 year old? good/bad idea

Wasn't sure where to put this, so created new thread.

I'm assuming the Moss Pit is somewhat of an alcohol-induced-mad-house, but I think I've seen kids in the pictures. I was wondering if anybody has taken their kids to this? I have an 11 year old who would be love to go, but I'm hesitant. Also, if you have gone, what time did you have to line up at? I'm guessing its a ridiculously long line up, and you have to be there hours in advance probably.

Moss pit is pretty crazy but there is also a FanPark on the other side of arena which is a lot more kids friendly.
They even have spots to sit if you go early enough. Gates open 90 mins before gametime and you need to have loilty membership. (takes 2 mins to sign up)

So I went to the Moss Pit for the first time for game 6 of the Finals last year. These are my thoughts, some aren't exactly relevant to the OP but I'll leave 'em here as like a Moss Pit FAQ:

- Yes it's full of drunk/high/both 20 year olds that are prone to fighting/throwing beer/being stupid. HOWEVER, the area after getting in is surprisingly huge. Most of the shenanigans occurs in the main crowd in the middle of the rink. If you go early, and with a few people you can easily get a spot to sit on the perimeter of the rink and honestly it's pretty chill. It's basically no different than actually going to a game.

- Once the game starts it's pretty crowded but the worst of it is near the team store and then towards the doors to Rogers Place. That's also where the beer/food/washrooms are so yeah.

- Washroom access is actually pretty good. They have a ton of port-a-potties so as long as you're ok with that then you won't have to worry about it much.

- Beer is pretty readily available but it will be busy, but I was able to get up refresh and get drinks in roughly 15 minutes or so during intermission.

- Food is probably the worst part. Overpriced and takes for f***ing ever. My buddy left to get food at about 10 minutes left in the 1st to "get in front of the line". He returned with his $20 chicken fingers and fires about 15 minutes left in the 2nd. There is one food truck. The line is ungodly. Avoid.

Overall, you absolutely can but it does carry significantly more risk than the Fan Park.

For the life of me I'll never understand why people do this inside and outside the game. What possible food item is worth missing half of a Stanley Cup Final game for? Or really any game for that matter. Instruction to avoid ordering food applies in all situations IMO.

I've been hungry in my life, but never close to hungry enough to not be able to just wait 3 hours to get something that actually tastes good, doesn't cost triple the fair price, and doesn't cause you to miss large portions of a game. Shake my head every game when people come back to their seat with 12 mins left in a period for the "benefit" of a bucket of popcorn. Like why?

I couldnt agree with you more on this.

A massive wait for way overpriced crap food is not something I am interested in at all. Much better to wait.
I am not even sure it would be possible to eat much of anything in all that carnage without getting it all over yourself...lol
Would I take my 11 year there...not a chance.

I was in the Moss pit for game 4 of the SCF last year...its probably obvious by now thats its not my cup of tea.

Although if I ever get an urge to be run into repeatedly for 3 hours, have to deal with drunk and obnoxious teenagers and have beer thrown on my head after every Oilers goal then the Moss pit would be the first place I would watch a game! ;)

Moss pit is full of drunk cocky shit disturbers. Drove to Edmonton from Van city for game 6 of the finals. 2 seperate times nearly got into a scrap bcz drunk idiots will come up with any reason to pick a fight with u if they see u havin a good time. If your standing near the wrong people it might be a terrible experience. However if your near positive fun fans, its great. Im done with the moss pit though.

I haven't been to either, but during big games I need/prefer to be dialled in. Nobody talk to me unless its strictly about what's going on in the game, need to hear the volume, need those around me to care (ie don't want anyone yucking it up if we're down 5-0), can't have people figuring out how to deal Nurse in the off season mid game. Call me a diva if you want, but it's not like these games grow on trees and I want to absorb as much of them as I can when they happen. If I went to one of those I know for a fact I'd be annoyed the whole time and would probably miss half of what was going on.

My impression from afar is that the sweet spot for attendance is U-25, the desire to party, but not really care about the game. If you don't fit into any of the 3 categories then you won't like it. I'm O30, do have a desire to party (just not with 18 year olds), and care very much for the game. Not for me.
