Morgan Rielly

I’m pretty sure management has looked into whether Rielly would waive simply because it was reported in the media. When you’re owned by Rogers (and formerly Bell) you can show your hand a bit by shopping the idea on Sportsnet and TSN.

I'm going to shut this thread down without executive powers or mod privileges.

Mirtle was on the Fan JD Bunkis Show this morning. He attended the NHL Combine talking to the other members of media covering every NHL team.

The word is that Rielly and his agent will not waive.

Ya but he's still a fattie and he has no clue how to play defense

I didn't think you could win with anyone in game 5 or 7.

Not sure what the point is here.

He wasn't a bottom 3 D on the team, that was clearly Carlo, McCabe, and Benoit, likely in that order.
Tanev and Benoit were by far their best 2 D in da playoffs .. those 2 have heart, grit and bottom line they have what it takes as hockey players to win in da playoffs

Too bad they helped them lose.

Benoit specifically was the worst D for goal differential in the playoffs.

If only he had more heart........

I don't go on stats/analytics .. in their current form they don't work for hockey .. they are in their very early stages of development .. hockey is still a game where you need to have played at a high level to see and understand it .. and playoff hockey is much different then regular season hockey .. 2 completely different games .. and that is da real reason why teams/managers have a very difficult time in cap era to win a Cup .. as you need da scoring in regular season to make da dance but then you need depth of lineup to win a Cup .. to create a combined roster is extremely complex with da CAP .. our strength is using our CASH to make up for tax havens in certain US states

You might want to start using stats more, the eye test seems to be failing you.

You should also write NHL teams and tell them to stop investing millions in analytics, it is a waste.

The "stats/analytics" I used were goals... should they stop keeping score?

It is a colossal waste of hard earned money but you are right on da spending front .. my sisters kid is a computer science geek from Waterloo who wrote one of da new hockey analytics programs which arose after da Caps bought CapFriendly and Bettman came down real hard on Caps owner .. Utah just bought his program .. I am told there are 4 or 5 new analytics programs on nhl market now and teams are offering/paying ridiculous money for them to secure them .. I am told da AI in these new programs will transform da existing analytics currently in use to make them playoff friendly .. I just don't buy into this new technology .. but I have been wrong many more times than i have been right in life

I don't think you're wrong. You might be hard on yourself here.

To me the rule of thumb is this: If you notice (eye test) a player performing well in the playoffs: scoring, game winning goals, completing passes, defending, no turnovers, etc that likely their analytics will be good too. I'm not completely down on analytics, but I still lean on what I see.

Dubas the analytics king ruining franchises left and right

On the topics of analytics, is Panthers a good analytics team? Was Vegas, Avs and TBs good in analytics too when they won?

Really curious, as I really don’t know.

Then clearly you saw and understand how badly Benny was getting caved in, right? The struggles in transition, inability to handle a forecheck and speed limitations on the rush.

He did have that bizarre offensive stretch in back to back OT, but he looked a step behind and like a kid playing a level up

Panthers are very strong analytically this playoff and last. Colorado is usually strong as well. Vegas and TB we're both positive analytical teams, but not dominant like Col or Fla in their cup wins.

To be fair he had very up and then down and then up and back down type playoff .. and it happens to kids who are learning da differences of playoff hockey .. i don't mind guys like that because he has da upside to play at playoff game speed and succeed .. but learnings from kids are sometimes tough to watch til they learn da ropes .. and Carlo looked great in regular season but then he looked real slow vs Panthers .. i could see what some Bruins fans were saying about him in playoff hockey .. we may need to tweak him out

Fine to say it's growing pain and you don't mind it, but it doesn't change the fact he struggles mightily this playoffs overall.

Personally I don't love the D overall and feel there was too much praised heaped on a core that can't transition the puck well and doesn't really hold up physically

What does that have to do with knowing if the Leafs want to trade Rielly ?
I am uncertain about Treliving. He might want to trade Rielly. He'll will have a tought time doing it.

I am certain that many of the fans posting in this thread want Rielly traded.

The Leafs dont have interest in trading him.
He's the longest serving Leaf.
He wants to stay, for whatever reason.
He is NOT leaving.

He may end up on Robidas Island sooner than later mind you.
