Morgan Rielly

I'm not claiming Rielly is amazing, just that his lack of defensive game is made up for with his offensive game (much like Nylander), and that he is one of the best D on the team...

Nylander is normally said to be the best player or at least better than Marner, that is why his defensive game is brought up.

I know you thought you did something here, but you didn't.

Both are really good players, but not the best on the team.

Rielly is also not even close to as bad as people are claiming in this thread.
I have no idea what you thought I did but that didn’t.

Just brought up a point that you brought up in another thread, that’s all.

Morgan Rielly places 25th in scoring among defensemen in the NHL in 2024-25 so based on your criteria of out scoring his problems he is among the worst as far as 1D are concerned.

Glad playoffs are not important anymore.

Every stat I've used has been playoffs.

Do we need to go back to Rielly's Game 7 playoff portfolio?

I know when you have to isolate specific games your argument is terrible... so sure, please do that.

Do you think it is a good or bad thing that the team is winning when Rielly is on the ice?

Advanced stats and real metrics show Rielly was one of the better D on the team.

I don't value regular season as much as you do.

You could tell by JT's pathetic performance against Boston in 2024 playoffs that he just straight up doesn't have the speed/ability to keep up in tough playoff series. And yes, he is indeed getting outperformed by Max Domi the 3C for 2 years running now in the posteason.

Posted many times during the 2024 regular season that JT's speed is going to get exposed bad come playoff time, and it did.

If you wanna keep valuing regular season success as some benchmark for your opinions, you do you.

@JT AM da real deal warned us many times this season that Rielly's declining speed is going to cost us playoff time, and it did.
As you guys all know I was a huge Rielly supporter until last year .. and I still think he speaks very well and has many great leadership skills (that does not go away) .. but you could see last year his speed was declining and then another step back in speed this year .. like i said when he signed once his huge speed advantage goes away it will be only a couple years before he exits da league .. he flat out does not have another good skill to rely on .. his stickhandling is weak .. his shot is at best average .. his passing is ok .. but most importantly his defensive skills are very very very far below average .. i like Mo but we are gonna get stuck with that contract and it will likely be a buyout next summer .. thats why I would try to trade him this summer .. my take

Both things can be true:

They win their minutes when he's on the ice AND he's a huge part of the problem in big games, but it gets overshadowed because he isn't making core 4 money and isn't a forward.

I don't know how anyone watches Mo in games 5 or ESPECIALLY game 7 (worst player on the ice?) and thinks you can still win with him here, or that you'd want to see more of that here.

And I say that as someone who has been a huge Morgan Rielly fan and defender.

I didn't think you could win with anyone in game 5 or 7.

Not sure what the point is here.

He wasn't a bottom 3 D on the team, that was clearly Carlo, McCabe, and Benoit, likely in that order.
