Morgan Rielly

Can you prove that he is bad compared to the other D on the team without using random situations but overall play?

I appreciate your post though, it is a good example of the braindead posts I mentioned.
Watch the highlights from game 7. I just did a long post on that. Watch Rielly on Florida goals 1, 3 and 4. That’s how not to play defense in the NHL. In fact, watch a lot more video so you can understand the game better because right now the eye test might be too difficult for you since you seem to know nothing about the game and just like to post random stats that support a ridiculous narrative that isn’t based upon reality.

All Game 7 footage.

So random footage... reading the post is not hard, I requested something other than random isolated incidents.

He is not great defensively, this is not new, he makes up for it with scoring.

So nothing, got it.

Random stats? They were 50% when he is on the ice, that is better than 3 other D, and he's been better in most other years.

I am not shocked that you have to revert to your opinion as the only argument.

Random footage*

*Of your “best defenseman” giving up catastrophic goals against in elimination games where your team can only score 1 goal… partly because your best defenseman can’t generate any offense for the team he plays for.

He's only 9th in PPG over the last 5 years and 7th over the last 3 years... terrible at generating offense.

The emotion blinding people is hilarious now.

How many series did we win in the last 5 years with those earth shattering contributions?

Don't bring up a subject if you don't want to discuss it.

They won 2, which is more than someone like Quinn Hughes who is much better, it is almost like teams matter.

I have no clue why this is relevant though... if you get proven wrong, just accept it, no need to keep shifting the goalposts.

I always find it counterintuitive that some people could watch Morgan Rielly cough up a 0-0 Game 7 game changing turnover to Seth Jones, floodgates open, series over… or somehow forget to pick up David Pastrnak on a series ending OT goal… and then go back to an excel spreadsheet to disprove what they just saw: catastrophic season ending BS by your longest serving player.
It is totally.

1. It’s because they don’t know what they’re watching. So they can’t even understand how bad those plays were.
2. They have a favourite player who they will support no matter how bad they play.
3. And random, irrelevant stats are the only way to support their false narrative. Not sure why he didn’t post this stat showing how much worse his +/- was than any other Leafs defenseman.

As a Dman, should able to play solid defense be something that to be required.

Funny how you and others like to diminish Willie’s offence output by saying his defense is questionable but say it is okay for Reilly to be a below par defenseman bc his offence makes up for it.
Just an interesting observation.

It'd be nice if he was better defensively.

The difference is, that the gap between Rielly and other D on the team offensively is huge, Nylander isn't even the best offensively.

Not that interesting of an observation...

What you are saying is that bc Reilly is the tallest of the Hobbit(Dmen with Offense) it is okay for him to be below par in Defense.
Where as Willie led the teams in GOALs in the regular season while being 2nd in the league in Goals, and led the team in Goals and Points in the playoffs is not good enough offensively to compensate for his defensive game bc according to you, he is not the best offensive forward on the team.

You are not, this is really not an interesting observation bc it is clearly a bias opinion.

I'm not claiming Rielly is amazing, just that his lack of defensive game is made up for with his offensive game (much like Nylander), and that he is one of the best D on the team...

Nylander is normally said to be the best player or at least better than Marner, that is why his defensive game is brought up.

I know you thought you did something here, but you didn't.

Both are really good players, but not the best on the team.

Rielly is also not even close to as bad as people are claiming in this thread.

Morgan Rielly places 25th in scoring among defensemen in the NHL in 2024-25 so based on your criteria of out scoring his problems he is among the worst as far as 1D are concerned.

He went to work and he supported his family. You don't think being sleep deprived with a newborn could affect anyone? Of the players who are the "problem", Rielly may not have impressed but he doesnt have the arrogance or attitude the others have.

I think we should trade him because we need a change but if we keep him, I wouldnt be surprised if he has a good season and bounces back.
Why was he "sleep deprived"?

How many players wives have babies before or during the season ? Do they all play like crap after that ? This excuse doesn’t hold water. Hire a nanny, sleep in a separate room. Take the year off. Whatever it takes to earn your $7.5M and help the team win a cup.
All pair points.
