Morgan Rielly

Jones would have been a great add for this team. He's the minute eating OFD that Toronto's been missing on the blueline.

There's a chance that Carlo makes Rielly adequate for the next season or two. But I wouldn't wait until the wheels fall off completely. If Carlo can play with MO, he can play with anyone. So ditch, trade, buy-out Mo and get a real offensive minute eater. Find a way.

I like Rielly, but I do wonder what kind of trade market he has. If Ekblad (I doubt he leaves) or Provorov/Gavrikov (more likely, but Toronto hasn't had much success with Russians) can be signed I'd look at moving him.

Vancouver would be an ideal scenario if they bite the bullet and move Hughes to NJ (a scenario that I think is more likely than Canucks fans would like to admit). St. Louis is another potential fit, I just dont know what that return would look like. 0 interest in Cryou, but I'm sure neither him nor Berube would want a reunion either. I could also see Calgary in a somewhat lateral move for Andersson.

I've seen some Rangers ideas around Zibanejad floated around, massive pass on that one. He's just a poor man's Matthews, and i mean that in the most disrespectful way possible to both of them. Overpaid, horrible work ethic, random disappearing acts.

I have a feeling Reilly will be in a 3 way deal with Nucks and NJ.
Pierre saying he won’t waive just help Tre to get a better deal from NJ and Vancouver.

Ask him for a list of teams, if he digs in then buy him out. Tre has 2-3 years max before the team needs a full rebuild, time for bold moves.

That 5.86m will go a long way towards adding his replacement this summer.

I would be very happy to see Rielly gone

It’s time

He was supposed to be our number 1 but he never really lived up to that.
He’s on the wrong side of 30 now. We always had issues finding him the right partner. Whereas other number 1’s make people better around them Rielly makes guys worse
The man has been through some very dark times and aged a lot in hockey years. I think for his own sake, he should at least have 3-4 seasons of good hockey in a more chill environment without the circus drama and expectations in Toronto.

I think he absolutely had #1D potential early in his career, but they were horribly squandered here. Who knows, had he played in a different organization and wasn't rushed so quickly, he might have been further along. Still, he has had a good NHL career to date - he's just not a $7.5M top-pairing defenceman, and the Leafs badly need one to take the next step as their competitive window quickly closes

Strong offense flows from good defense. My team, the Bruins, in the years leading up to the Cup rin, was consistently pilloried for neglecting their forward unit other than a few key guys like Savard, Bergeron, etc. We usually still managed pretty decent offenses because good defense creates transition and transition creates mismatches and odd man rushes.

One of the reasons the Leafs are so inconsistent on offense is because they're literally trying to do things backwards. They're trying to generate offense while ignoring the position most critical for generating offense. If your defense can't feed the puck to the forwards efficiently, consistent offense becomes at lot harder because your forwards are constantly skating 3 on 5.

Focusing on offense at the cost of your defensive pairings is literally an excercise in putting the cart before the horse.

The defense doesn't just play defense in exactly the same way the offense does have to play on your side of the ice. Both skillgroups have to be good at both things to make a team balanced. And with a weak, underskilled defense, the forwards have to do all the work on offense and that's not how the NHL has worked in 70 years.

Bounce back year for a stubborn Rielly who will then be traded because he gets scared due to new lockdowns in Canada in 2026.

That's my prediction

I said that awhile back and everyone crapped all over me and they also crapped on Florida for taking him. Some were even calling him the worst contract in the league lol..

Reilly will become a problem for this team soon. Hopefully he can rebound off a bad season but he looks like he lost a step for sure in his skating ability, similar to how PK did.

I am fine with moving Rielly but we better have a pretty good plan to insert some puck moving ability back there because it's already not great with Rielly and once traded, will border on very bad.
That's the funny thing. Even his puck moving ability has gone in the toilet.

The more speed he loses, the more drastically we're going to see his game drop off. They HAVE TO do something before everyone sees this.

I hope everybody here is doing their part, word cannot get out that Rielly has lost it until they're able to dump his contract.
