Morgan Rielly

Would perhaps run Ekman-Larsson over him on the PP
Think the shorthanded goal, and the handful of additional shorthanded chances they gave up, played a factor in using 1D on the PP in OT.

Would personally have just thrown McMann or Patches in Tavares' place and kept the setup the same, but whatever.

Think the Mo-Carlo pairing needs a better night on Tuesday.

It was just the Tavares was out. Rielly is the easiest replacement in that moment without needing to do something on the second too. Plus with JT out, pushing another forward in there just means another double shift when guys are most tired.

And... The power play wasn't bad. Lots of control, chances, even hit the post. As good as with JT? No. Good enough to create chances that nearly ended the series? Yes.

McMann instead of JT, and Mo-OEL on PP2

He stopped that goal going in early in the game, but everything else was just the usual Slo-Mo trainwreck.

Playoff Mo is a thing, idk how people deny it

Whatever his regular season level is, make him two steps above that. Dude gets a +10 to all stats come playing time

When the stakes raise Mo produces. Simple as. He had a poor showing last year but it happens. As long as he scores more than he gives away defensively it’ll be fine.

It's one of the weirdest things this year especially.
Happened two years ago in the same capacity.

Leafs fanbase has a poor memory of playoff players for a team that struggled so long to collect them.

Whole season was people chucking playoff players out the window.

Good to see Rielly producing offensively so far, he just needs to tighten up on he defense and not make too many mistakes. Also good to see him play a few less minutes per game and no longer be at the top for minutes played in most games. Maybe that helps keep him fresh to be more offensive when the other 4 Dmen can take over the bulk of the defensive duties.

Gets far too much hate.

He is an offensive D who has put up 6 points in 8 games without much PP time.

He is tied for 2nd for EVP on the Leafs.

Every playoff he steps up and produces.

Best goal differential for D and best expected goal for D.

The problems with Rielly weren't so much himself as it was lack of compatible partners. Once Carlo entered the picture his game started balancing out perfectly fine.
