Morgan Rielly

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
Hes by far been the biggest disappointment and the person I have the least confidence in to bounce bacc this year I don’t care about if he does it next year he should be gone for thinking as a number 1 defensemen that you can take a year off in the prime of our star players I knew He was the one that should have went instead of sandin ffs

He's gotta go. There's been an unprofessional slippage to his game that is unacceptable for an NHL club to accept. His woeful preparation and lack of readiness to play the game, be held accountable can't be tolerated.

I tend to think this is a bad off-year for him, maybe adjusting to a significant life change. Who knows the whole story….but he’s been better the majority of his career.
The flip side is that the team has a lot of cap tied into the left side for term where there’s lots of available talent.

Whether it is a one off or not it’s too drastic of a drop to gamble he fixes it next year and it’s very irresponsible for him to allow such a drop off when your the defacto number 1 dman there really isn’t a justifiable explanation to bring him bacc hes never been a good dman he doesn’t fit Berube system he likes smart or simple players rielly is neither of those 2 I expect him to be traded

My wife went through severe post partum depression. If she’s going through that it will mess with any man significantly. And maybe that’s why he played so well on the western road trip. His best stretch of the season. Just a total guess on my part

I don't know if we can build excuses like that for poor on ice play.

A change of scenery might be needed at this point. Is there a challenge trade out there that makes sense in the offseason? A similarly struggling player with around 4-5 years left on his deal at around 7.5 million.
Who wants another overpaid, struggling player ? Just buy him out and move on. Take the extra cap space and sign a tough third pairing defenseman for $2-3M. Their top four is set without Rielly.

Morgan plays defensive coverage dishonestly.

He makes routine defensive coverage look like full panic scrambles because he's always passively allowing a guy to do whatever they want and go wherever they want with minimal physical engagement or care. Stick poke here, lazy zone defense there until he's caught flat footed and has to flop all over the place. He never really separates body form puck cleanly. Just lazily watches until it's too late and then he's right there, split second late standing beside the net with the puck in it.
The evangelista goal
Was horrible. 2 on 2 totally fumbled and just lost him completely on the switch.

everyones got shit going on we just have to evaluate the play on the ice like you said.

plus i dont know why we cant sit him to send a message.

If the team needs a big shake up scratching Rielly would be perfect for the shock value x you're not missing anything. It would actually be a great tool for Berube.

Since then, Rielly has gained over 20lbs and weighs as much as Matthew Knies who is much taller and has a much stronger build that facilitates his powerforward style of play.

Rielly is visibly thicker and fatter in the face these days. Behind the Leaf series awhile ago he admittedly loves junk food and has had a sponsorship deal with Pizzaville for at least a few years now. Not sure if it has anything to do with getting married and having a kid because this is a normal thing for top athletes to do and doesn’t often result in drop offs in play.
I swear to god, I saw a pre-season game and Morgan's double chin was shocking. I knew then he was gonna have a tough year.

Efficiency is the word here. Rielly's style of defense is woefully inefficient. You look at Tanev and everything looks like it has a purpose, no wasted movements at all. Rielly looks like he requires 5x more effort to make the same simple defensive play Tanev makes with pretty well no effort.

Hes just not good but that’s always been obvious Hes a dman that never could defend when gardiners taking the defensive matchups you succ period

He's the one constant in the last decade of losing. The oldest surviving Leaf. For all we know, he's always been the guy that takes every new Leaf in, and teaches them how to just chill and be a gud pro and let the pressure bounce off you, cuz its easier than owning it. Too lackadaisical. Too ineffective. Too little for too long. And we're pretty much stuck with him now.

If he doesn’t get his act together in the playoffs and if they really care about winning a cup, they’ll buy him out this summer. If they care more about not hurting a players feelings or riling up the fan base then we’re stuck with him.

I’m sure he’s a fine person, it should be enough for the organization that he’s dumb and not physically gifted enough to make up for it anymore to want to move on. Guys don’t need to be secret villains, it’s a performance based business and management hasn’t been treating it like one since the rebuild started.

We will retain his contract for anyone over 6'1 and can actually hit and make a breakoutpass.

JESUS MOTHERF***ING CHRIST

He just ate cheetos this off season or what??!?!
This guy honestly needs AHL time to RELEARN how to play DEFENSE.

Absolute embarrassment for the CAP. of a contending team. F**K.
LEAFS ARE NOT A SERIOUS TEAM IF WE PRETEND THIS IS NORMAL.

Its like signing 6 supermodels to walk runways, and strut in bikinis, dresses and heels for a TV show
And one of them shows up looking like Rebel Wilson, and has a limp.

Jake Gardiner 2.0 in the playoffs if he doesn't snap out of it.
