Seth Jones is a good point here.

The reigning champions, the team with the best cup odds this year, who plan to go for it through the same near term window as ours, more or less just picked up a Morgan Rielly.

Again, moving off the player might make sense for Toronto, but let's not jump off the deep end.
 
Folks Rielly is not gonna pay much in playoffs unless we get Tampa in 1st round matchup .. Tre looking to add a Olesiak today .. we need a tough SOB to make our net a very unfriendly place in playoffs .. that is number #1 need and it is clear from past few games without tanev our D with Myers Rielly and Timmins is nowhere near up to par for regular season hockey nevermind playoff hockey .. if Tre doesn't get it done look for another round exit incoming
 
They need to rebuild his game as best they can and then trading him when his value is high. Ideally that means his partner will hide his flaws

Rielly is uncoachable. You just get whatever he gives you in his flow state rush hockey and suffer all the consequences of his care free defense when the drain backs up. He doesn’t speak the language of clean hockey and details.

I find he’s less frustrating if you pretend he’s that golden retriever from Air Bud. All his friends are skating towards the offensive zone? Great he’s excited, doesn’t exactly know what he’s doing, but he’s happy to tag along. All his friends are skating back to the defensive zone? Jeez he better follow them and see what’s going on over there.

I know it is unlikely but I hope OEL and Carlo play together as our 2nd pair. They complement each other well and both bring toughness. Let Rielly play minimal minutes on the 3rd pair and let him understand his time in Toronto is over making it easier to ship him off in the off season. Plus Rielly sucks so him playing limited minutes makes us a better team.

This is what will occur in playoffs ,, we need a top 4 who can play 90% of grinding games free of defensive errors .. i think you will see Benoit with Rielly on 3rd pair with limited minutes against Canes/Cats .. although Rielly plays well against Tampa due to their game flow which means we are likely to switch up pairs depending on da opponent

I don't know how but they should put Mo on a conditioning stint to cut 10lbs 15lbs. Send a strong mesaage

He has always been 225-230 pounds .. his issue from what I have been told is his foot speed numbers have dropped off 5-7% this year so his ability to beat guys up and down da ice has been impacted .. although i agree with you dropping 15 pounds might tip scales in other direction .. probably needs to occur in offseason .. if he doesn't do something in off season he is going to regress .. i mentioned this when he signed his contract that he would not make it through it as he has ZERO defensive game to fall back on once his foot speed is not a major advantage for him .. and he shows no signs of trying to learn defensive hockey at all
 
Pre-deadline when I mentioned Carlo’s name, I did say he and OEL would make a fine second pair IMO. I also think their style of play would complement one another more than Carlo and Rielly.

However, we need Rielly to get going and if he can’t having tried Tanev and now Carlo, he needs to be traded this off-season. Chychrun would be my guy to replace him via free agency.

If he doesn't magically and all of a sudden turn it around in the next month and a half here and we crash and burn in the 1st round again, Treliving really needs to strongly consider releasing him this summer.

100% Chychrun is the guy you go after in the Off-season. bet he gets around $8 to $8.5. Need Rielly's contract gone

Someone mentioned that the current CBA expires after next season. I wonder if we get some compliance buyouts again as plan B if Rielly doesn't waive

This is both terrifyingly accurate and hilarious at the same time
 
There’s no accountability with this guy. Gives the sad eyes interview after Vegas about cleaning up the game and focusing on defensive details. Proceeds to wet the bed in Colorado.

Just works the press conference as plays like his usual game with no quality control.
