He's always been kinda docile, and jus' cool - maybe too laid back. Its a good trait in this market - TO... A... POINT.

I think he's been the common denominator for what's been wrong in leafland - cuz he's the only one still here thru multiple regimes, after all these years. Basically, and this is me going cray cray a bit here - but Morgs strikes me as the kinda guy that welcomes new guys into the room with a smile, tells them that its a real big deal to be a Leaf - so just to be chill and play their position, cuz "it's hard out here for a Leaf" tryin' to live up to 1967 - and so, if someone is whylin' out too much and going against the grain, pushing the pace or the rah rah or higher expectations onto others - then Mo is there to just chill them out and get em back in the "just happy to be here" mold.

Either that or he's married with a kid now and whatever WAS there has been sapped the F out of him for good.... lmaooooooo!!!!

I think it's both tbh lol

His game always backslides into this sloppy on defense, sluggish on transition and short circuited offensively. Seems like a nice guy but has way too much job security and comfort and seems like he struggles with staying sharp mentally.
He seems to be on a delay of some sort when he gets the puck at the point. He almost ALWAYS hesitates for 1/2 a second, which is just enough time for someone to get in the shooting lane. When he was scoring a few years ago against Tampa in the playoffs...it was on and off his stick in a flash. Yet, that somehow doesn't get through to him to do it more often....

That is very accurate. I can see him being the guy to cost the Leafs a series in the playoffs due to all the things u mention. I would personally like to move on from Reilly, ask him to waive his no trade in the summer.

Agreed. Reilly lacks confidence and is not deceptive at all. That 1/2 second u mention is a PP killer and also his telegraphing every pass to the half wall. Bottom line, Reilly has very average hockey sense, he wont win the Leafs any important games being a smart, deceptive player. His over pinching, shows a lack of feel for the game, a guessing mentality, no will to win puck battles, lack of concentration. I dont think the Leafs can win if he is playing top 3 minutes.

He can get hot in the playoffs but his +/- always seems to be among the worst on the team. That may be an unimportant stat to some, but I'm curious to why this is a pattern if he's a #1 d-man.

Rielly having another avg to below avg season with the lowest +/- on the team. He is NOT a no.1 defenceman at this point, he may be a no. 4-6 and not a good one. We keep looking for partners for him but at some point we may have to resign ourselves to the fact he'll never be a good no.1-2. One specific thing I've noticed is his skating...it seems to be laboured.

Having said this, why the hell is Berube pairing him with Timmins, whose game has slipped? Could be because Berube realizes that he's now a 5-6.

Have to shop him around in the summer. What's his NTC/NMC status? His 7.5M could be better used elsewhere. We might be stuck with him, tho.

Morgan played the 4 most minutes among Leaf defenders in the Stars game. I've been saying for awhile, slotting this guy as our #1 made no sense to me. Is he our 4th best defender no, but he is not a #1 either. Tanev, McCabe and OEL all had more minutes

Interesting, I thought Myers was playing and Timmins scratched

Today on Kyper and Bourne, they talked about how Rielly was going to be paired with Timmins, OEL-Tanev, and Benoit-McCabe. If it's not Timmins, looks like it'll be Myers, who I much would prefer to pair with Rielly. I guess we'll see soon.

Last 5 years of playoff hockey Rielly is 10th overall in points for defensemen (24 in 32), he's tied for 4th in goals, 12th in assists, and sits 7th overall in P/G. He's 8th overall in +/- for those interested in that stat (+16). He sits 44th in games played during those 5 years.

The next Leafs defenseman for scoring totals...TJ Brodie with 7 points in 26 games.

Those rankings don't seem accurate. On NHL.com Rielly is ranked 15th. And when you think of the playoffs as a 16 team tournament with the same returning teams every year, we basically have one of the weakest number one defensemen and the team basically goes nowhere with him in that role.

If you look at it through Pts/GP and take into account his +/- he is actually a top 10 defenseman in the playoffs for the last decade. Outside of Hedman Makar, and Burns, he looks like one of the best in that list. Keep in mind almost 80% of his playoff production is at even strength.
