Morgan Rielly

It was Rielly's best game in a while until da turnover in 3rd and da one in OT where stolly saved him .. bottom line da guy just flat out gives away da puck in very bad moments when games are on da line .. he needs a very short leash especially in tight games

What was Rielly doing in overtime there giving up the puck for a breakaway and acting like he was assaulted ?
The moment he got the puck in somewhat tight coverage, I knew he was gonna turn it over. And when he got that prime pass from Knies in OT, I knew he wasn’t scoring either (though that one turned out fine in the end!).

He’s always had some flaws, but been a mostly good player, but this year his game has totally fallen apart. His offensive game has been worse than the stats tell, he doesn’t really drive anything, and a tonne of plays die the moment he gets the puck. He’s picking up assists mostly by just touching the puck a fair bit and the next guy or two happens to score, vs actually creating the offence. And defensively, a well below average season for him too.

Hopefully he can bounce back - if this is just the new Rielly as he ages, that’s a pretty terrible contract. This year and 5 more at $7.5 mil, when he’s currently playing more like a $2-3 mil defender (clearly a level below $3.5 mil OEL IMO, and way below $4.5 mil Tanev/McCabe).

It was a nice play he made to help set up the goal and the thing is, who else on this defense is able to jump up in the play and keep it going like that? OEL gets a breakaway, takes a terrible shot and then falls over... and it gets worse from there. Unfortunately, Rielly can't operate 5v5 any more, he's only useful with the extra ice. And anyway, Kucherov should have ended the game at the beginning of that play, Point passed the puck to him right through Rielly as usual, he's the worst 2 on 1 defender you'll likely ever see.

I've never seen a guy try to sell a high sticking call without a stick being anywhere close to his face.

What a bizarre sequence.
That was pathetic. Just like he coughed up the puck while trying to avoid getting hit on the winning goal by the Panthers the night before. Quit coddling this guy and limit his minutes or he’ll kill them in the playoffs. Show some balls Berube.

It is very sad to see when a popular player who relies on his wheels, loses his wheels .. but if you remember when he signed that contract i told everyone that when that occurred he would play AT MAX 2-3 years in pro hockey as he has no defensive game to fall back on .. unfortunately it happened last year .. my best guess is next season will be da end .. if he is not bought out over da summer .. that said against Tampa i think he can still bring some value as their style of game suits his game .. and I think Berube will cut his ice late in games in da playoffs as he just makes too many puck giveaways

I remember you saying that. I printed it out and looked at it every day and just waited in the weeds for the moment it was proven right. You are a legend

I anticipate once everyone's fit and healthy, that McCabe and Tanev will get the bulk of the minutes, and from there it'll simply be a case of who is going.

The challenge Berube runs into is if you're reducing Mo's minutes, you're probably giving more minutes to a Benoit or OEL, which is just not ideal.

Oel next to Carlo makes sense it just means bennys scratched

I didn’t like the contract from the moment it was signed. A defenseman who can’t defend has to be an offensive superstar / great PP quarterback or else they’re a huge liability. Leafs tried to fit a square peg into a round hole and other than a few moments of high level play, he’s hurt the team playing 20+ minutes a game. Now he needs to be sheltered or sat out. They need to stop bending over backwards to prop him up. .800 winning percentage without him in the lineup says it all.

Barring a herculean effort by in the playoffs, I hope someone else will accept in a trade this offseason, and he will waive to go.

Well with the way Rielly has looked at times, I think this is a risk that Berube is going to have to take.

I thought he really struggled in that OT and his backcheck was just giving up. Good on him he facilitated the game winner but man there’s so much bad stuff in his approach.

Not ideal is Better then a disaster waiting to happen.

Mo is my favorite Leaf (maybe tied with Knies now). He's the only of the current core I own his jersey. I've seen him play with his heart on his sleeve for many many years.

This season he has been bad. He looks like he is not having any fun. He looks like he doesn't believe in the team or the system. He looks like he wants to be traded.

This is a sinking ship. The rats are about to start fleeing.

Orrrrrr he just got married and had a baby. That stuff messes with some people
