26 year old RFA-to-be who can play all 3 forward positions but has seemingly done best on his off-wing (LW). Plays well as a 3C but has shown the ability to slot in as a complementary winger and is on the 1st line on LW in Boston. He isn't going to drive a ton of offense but his ability to find open space and rip off lasers has gotten him a lot of ice time.

What's his value? Given his RFA status/ability to slot in across from Pasta without dragging him down means his value to Boston is likely higher than to other teams. However, Bruins have now clearly shown that they are sellers and to the right team that has lots of talent but a gaping hole in the top six on the left wing, he might be of interest.

How bad is his defense? Everything I read about him is glowing "if you can stomach his 200 foot game."

We could use his righty shot and we have his brother, might make sense for the Lightning.

I’d say his defense is mediocre. He can win battles but he also makes the occasional heroically bad play on zone exits etc.

What you’re getting with Geekie is a decent middle sixer who is good at finding space to get his shot off ( and it’s a good shot). He’s shown the ability to mesh opportunistically with a top level playmaker but probably makes the most sense as a 2/3 RW and 2nd Unit PP on a line with an intelligent passer.

What does Boston want?

The Bruins are hurting for scoring and should have plenty of cap space so I'd be surprised if they traded Geekie after he's developed good chemistry with Pastrnak and is looking like a legit top 6 winger entering his prime. It'd likely take over-payment in the form of a young forward with higher upside that a playoff team doesn't want to wait to develop (e.g. someone like Yager, Lambert, Connelly, Greentree, Howard, etc.)

I think ideally the Bruins would keep Geekie if he were willing to accept a pretty short term 3.5-4.5 AAV contract, and given his RFA status and decent compatibility with Pasta, it would probably take a late first+ or a closer to mid- round first to get him out of Boston.

As for Zacha the same can be said, however he’s better on special teams and is a better distributor. I don’t think the Bruins would move him unless there was an irredeemably outstanding offer on the table.

I recognize contenders’ fans’ desire to pick the bones clean off of the former perennial contender Bruins but Boston has to retain at least a framework of solid players around Pasta and Charlie and Marchand otherwise they might beg for the exit as well.

Kinda suprised Boston would want to trade him. Seems like a good older breakout type player that you can get signed for a decent contract.
