Player Discussion Morgan Geekie

For a team who doesn't usually have high picks they should be targeting guys that are Geekie's age when he signed every single offseason. Played out well with Brazeau too, obviously to a lesser extent

They just very rarely exist. Guys who end up as unrestricted FA's at age 24 are rare, especially ones who've shown at least decent NHL ability.

Why? The fact is they could have signed him earlier. Now we don’t know what Geekies side might have wanted. I do agree alway 2 sides.

They couldn’t have signed him if Geekies camp wasn’t interested and wanted to play out the second year before entering talks about extension.

Why would Boston have gone that route? He was playing like garbage and healthy scratched in early this season.

He's going to get paid and he's earned it

This response doesn’t even make sense.

OP posed a hypothetical of extending Geekie in July of last year when he’s fresh off career highs.

What he played like at the beginning of the year wouldn’t factor in to the scenario posed by the OP.

Nah, OP was using hindsight to slag on Sweeney for not signing him in the offseason when, checks notes, no one in here was calling for resigning Geekie.

I have to assume that the deal is done or in the final processes. It would be incredibly foolish to give any semblance of a concrete answer in any other situation.
I'm also surprised he committed to a side even if it does feel like the obvious avenue.

Maybe I just have PTSD of Don trading Ullmark and Swayman's camp clearly using that as leverage. Hopefully the deal gets done before any kind of arbitration or anything like that needs to happen. Geekie doesn't exactly strike me as the kind of guy to demand a Kings Ransom though.

Although he is an rfa. They could take him to arbitration.
I would like to see DS sign him to a bridge deal. Not sure if his scoring rate is sustainable. Zadorov and Pasta are the only players Sweeney has signed in a while who earns their contract! Swayman, McAvoy, and Lindholm were not earning half of what they are paid. It will make things worse if he decides to go off board with this years round 1 draft!
