Fluto had a super article in the Athletic on him yesterday

This caught my eye in article :

Things are coming together for the 26-year-old Geekie. He’s making plays in tight areas. When he has room to shoot, he releases it quicker instead of loading up. Geekie credits Linus Ullmark for the adjustment.

During practice, Ullmark informed Geekie he had a tell on his shot. Ullmark could stop more of Geekie’s shots than he should have because he was taking too long with his release.

“It’s not as easy to overpower goalies as it is to catch them by surprise,” Geekie said. “So if you can get three-quarters of the velocity, you’re able to surprise the goalie. There was a stat on (Auston) Matthews that with his velocity, his shot’s nowhere near the top. But he scores on goalies like the guys with the hardest shots do. He catches goalies off guard because his release is so quick. It’s obviously a world-class shot.”

Don’t feel bad - he’s way better than I thought as well
They were showing his stats with Montgomery vs Sacco the other day. There’s an amazing difference under Sacco.

Speaking of Sacco, I wonder if they’re waiting out the season hoping for another coach to be fired? Fans seem kind of meh on Sacco. I wonder if Cam feels the same? I personally don’t care, I just don’t want Sully II.

I assume Ullmark provided him with that helpful info. while he was here?

I don’t know of any magic wonderful coaches out there who are going to be fired

I like Sacco and really that’s all that matters if I’m being honest

That always made sense to me. Seems smart. Unless you're a world-class corner/5-hole/post-and-in sniper, why give the goalie time to get set? You see this also when players sometimes shoot when they're mid-stride. I would imagine that the goalies, who are good at tracking the puck on the blade, are instinctively expecting the player to shoot when their stick/stride is in optimal position. But when they shoot half-way through their stride, or anytime earlier than they would normally be expected to, it's got to catch them off-guard.

If Geekie is not a top 5 player, on this team, then he's #6. Pay the man. 4-5M x 5 before he becomes a 25-30G/yr player with Pasta. This is what you want to see, a player getting better each year. Listen up Freddy.
Geekie's been great. Easy guy to root for.

Give Frederic Geekie's minutes with Pastrnak instead of Walhstrom and then let's come back and compare.

Nope, Freddy bounces too much, skill and effort-wise(every once in a while you see a shot like last nights and ask why can't we see more of that, and that wasn't with the top 6). Wahlstrom with Pasta IS a head scratcher. Freddy's ceiling is middle 6, Geekie's is top 6. Not an All Star by any measure(yet?), but someone that seems to always give an effort that pushes the team forward. You can't say that about Frederic.
If you hypothetically could only keep one, it should be Geekie.
Hey everyone is entitled to a binky on this site! LOL

True definition of growth. As a former goalie, we always knew how to score off each other and passed it along to our shooters. Ex: Bobrovsky high stick side.

C'mon now. Geekie has a strong shot, strong wrister, snapper, and can one-tee. He's got the shooting ability to capitalize on Pasta's playmaking.

Has Trent Frederic ever scored a goal off a one-tee in his career? I like his wrister but he's not the shooter Geekie is.

Think he's got an underrated shot - point is one guy has Pastrnak setting him up, the others got Wahlstrom, Brazeau or Tyler Johnson.

But this is a Geekie thread and I hope they lock him up for 3-5 years

Make no mistake, both guys are middle 6 players and Pasta is elevating Geekie's point totals right now. But he's got more offensive tools than Frederic which is why Geekie is playing on the 1st line and Freddy isn't.

Geekie has really good vision and passing

He’s very good

Pasta sucked on this board I read for 4 months everything from poor decisions to lazy to soft to can’t shoot anymore

Now he’s making Geekie good

Place is insane

Geekie has a great unsuspecting shot, seems to rocket off his stick at times, and I love his motor and compete level. Want him back, but at a reasonable price. Bruins need players like him, but preferably on the 2nd or third line.

People get too wrapped up in what line is what number. Whoever Pastrnak is playing with is the first line because he's on it. Geekie and Zacha have developed good chemistry with him even if in a vacuum neither would be "1st line" talents.

Zacha is pretty close to a first line talent. His two way games pretty good. He is definitely a high end second line centre.

Well there's no doubt in Boston which line is number 1, pretty easy to tell, any confusion there, you need to follow another sport.
