If Frost and Farabee are “eminently replaceable” then why do the Flyers have so many players who are worse than them?
Why not add a couple of the many players equal to those two and then get rid of the inferior guys?

I wouldn't be against Frost/Beezer trade if
1) we'd be confident PHI FO is also thinking this is genuinely a rebuild
2) Briere would had proven he is better at trades than a toddler thus could take advantage of this cap space

Think they just wanted out from Farabee. Found a team willing to take the full contract, but said them wanted something else to do it.
Enter Morgan Frost.
I don’t agree with the move, but honestly for entirely different reasons.
You can’t keep improperly developing these youngsters, then blaming the players time after time. We already know they are not too pleased with York, and who’s next?

Nobody of note.
The list always falls mighty short when comparing all the exciting talent that has entered the league in the last 20 years.
Flyers have only had 3. Giroux, Couturier, Konecny, and MAYBE Michkov but it’s clear he’s having to slog through the same difficult path.
It’s why I’m honestly more pro offer sheet, or trade at this point. The Flyers are utter dogshit at scouting or development of said players. I don’t really see the point in all these picks.

LOL at Mickhov, he's generational talent and is producing DESPITE how he is developed. But yeah... We are not putting youngsters in position to succeed. Totally agree: re offersheet/trade path, therefore.

It’s not how I would build my team, but yeah.. honestly?
For the Flyers? Free agency, trades, and offer sheets make more sense. I’m about as down on their amateur scouting/development as can be. Only need to look at who they have infused into the league in the last 20 years to see that.
I do have some fears though with a more “traditional” Flyers approach to getting talent in. There were days when they chased Timonen, Pronger, Briere, Hartnell, Coburn. Hell I loved the Meazaros, and Gudas additions, etc.
Something happened with pro scouting though. We’ve been gifted Ristolainen, Hayes, Drysdale, Atkinson.
I’d have faith in their “traditional” approach if there was more recency with successfully targeting the right players.

They aren't replaceable for this team. We've seen this said how many times? About how many players? And they haven't successfully replaced any of them. It's been a constant downward spiral.
But that's not really the thing. The thing is it makes zero sense. Their ages align with Michkov decently. Meanwhile we hold everyone who is of no utility to his prime.

Just last thing. Terms of the offer sheet. It does make sense to me with the way the compensation is set up currently, before the cap goes up (unless I’m getting something wrong).
Johnston, would be my primary target. Would gamble the salary dedication, and pick compensation to do it.
Realistically, think Dallas finds a way to keep their young star.
That moron Murray is likely to be pushing McTavish, but Dostal to me is a man I’d make a commitment to, and chase hard. Running under the radar in Anaheim - but for a team that’s going to need upper echelon goaltending to have any chance. I’d love that addition, even if goaltenders seem to scare a lot of folks.
Add Samberg to this list.

They're middling players for this god awful Flyers team, where will they be if/when we ever get towards being a good team again? Do you want to keep them and get the 13th pick or bottom out a bit and hopefully actually improve? It's not so much a downward spiral as the same thing time and again. A downward spiral would be beneficial!
They may be second liners in our heads, but they're playing like third liners (in Farabee's case, an overpaid third liner at that) and in return we got some third liners back on expiring deals.
Look, I'm not defending the trade because it's a whole lot of nothing, but nobody won that deal.

I dont know a better way out of perpetual mediocrity than not caring about wasting assets on a regular basis.

Bro realises that Frost is playing like the bottom-endest second liner in the league (190/192) with absolutely zero defensive acumen... and Farabee isn't producing even close to a second line output. Farabee is also paid $5m for a few more years which is a terrible contract.
We shouldn't even try. We need to bottom out and stop aiming for the middle.
Your stats only proved my point. They're middle of the line up players who are third liners on any good team, they're not trending upwards and one of them is wildly overpaid.

Hard to disagree with this. I don't care one bit about trading the two, but i don't think HO is even remotely in the right mindframe for where we are heading.
No, my stats disproved your point. You simply can't grasp it. I'll try another way. Last season there were 924 players who played in the NHL. Only 138 players scored 20 or more goals. Now of course, injury comes into play and kept some players from achieving that. The point is that if you score 20 goals in this league, you are a well above average player. Very few teams in this league ice 6 forwards who have scored 20 or more goals. I don't think I can put it any simpler.

It is a downward spiral. The roster is continually made worse. They're still hunting for that Ghost replacement.
Teams need cheap homegrown bottom six players too, you know. Or they could have sold them for a profit instead of a huge loss like they do in almost every move they make.

Ooops players having a down year what a bummer must get rid of them. Now we can see 4th liners cates and Abols masquerade on the 1st and 2nd line. If you're not defending the trade I don't know what you're doing cause the team is now worse because of it. And yea getting rid of two "middling" players made the team worse.
Appleyard the other day showed that Frost had one of the best GA for forwards under John. You're confusing him for laughton who has the worst. If your argument was they aren't performing well this year that would be one thing but you keep insisting that they aren't good players at all which is wrong. Bottoming out should have started with trading Konecny, Laughton, and Fisto. And newsflash teams need good middle 6 forwards, which Frost and Farabee have shown is what they are. Who's on our 3rd line now hoss?

Calm yourself down a little. 924 skaters played in the NHL last season but 315 of them were defensemen.
To be a full time NHLer i see them having to play >75% of the games available to them. Only 309 forwards have done this since the start of last season. Of them, Frost is 151st in scoring, Farabee is 140th. If you just count this season, Frost is 157th and Farabee is 210th!
They're good enough to play in the NHL, of course they are. They're both at an age where you kinda know what you have though. Their peak was moderately above average and they've hardly trended upwards since.
The trade itself was a meh, we may not have got an amazing return for them but what do you realistically expect to get for a 25 year old who's got a career high of 50 points, has regressed significantly and is signed for $5m for three more seasons!? If we'd traded for him without the emotional connection you'd be furious if you gave up anything of any value.

Is anyone going to get excited about the upcoming draft with this bunch in charge? If they can’t get a player across the border with a work visa after a week, how can they be trusted to draft well, do trades or make sensible offer sheets.
