Chicken N Raffls
Here for the chaos and lolz
Cool story. The Flyers also have 1 point in 3 games. They've both started with 1 point in 3 games.
Edit: My bad, Flyers have 1 point in 4 games. Carry on

You guys are in deep trouble. You want the Flyers to be something the Flyers don't want to be and so you will never be happy.
Sadly, you are right. The follow-up question is who will be less happy: the fans who think that the franchise needs to do a 180 to be Cup contenders or the ones who think that the franchise can become Cup contenders by doing what they have always done?
Can't we all just be miserable together?
You have to factor in some of the things he says which sound like hockey guy parody posts written here as a joke. Like the value of Laughton's intangibles. It's such a weird situation.
There's some trades which were good (Provorov, Walker). I guess it's easier to "win" a trade when you take on salary because you can extract a bit more value for shouldering that burden.
I'm also impressed at how Briere (and the entire FO) is able to keep things very quiet (Fedotov, Michkov, Gauthier, even Frost/Farabee) and not have rumours and information leaks.
On the other hand, Briere is way too candid with the media about some Flyers' plans and strategies. I don't understand how that helps him. Saying he works hard to make sure it's a win-win is unnecessary. If that's your philosophy, fine. No need to virtue signal. Let your actions speak instead.
I was a huge fan of him as a player, but not really sold on him as GM. It's a mixed bag.
This is the point of pro sports. Can’t convince me otherwise. Everything is built around only one team being happy. Even if I disagree, every bit of messaging is that the team that wins the championship celebrates forever and no one else gets to do that.
Maybe Lombardi was on to something. "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." “In our business there is no second place; you’re either first, or last.”
Seeing the Flyers win would obviously be bliss. But in its absence, I only want one thing. Hope. The feeling that they "could" win.
That feeling has been far too rare in the past 20 years.
Exactly! Even in a rebuild situation, that's all I need to be in. They have this guy and this guy and that guy and if they hit, I can see it. They might not! But the org gave themselves a chance. The bar is just not stabbing yourself in the spleen by design.
The thing is, even though they seem to have chosen a difficult path, it's still a path that can lead to success. Vegas has been able to pull it off with a series of very aggressive moves.
No 1D? Let's go get one.
No 1C? Let's go get one.
No 1G? Let's go scorched earth in trying to find one that can represent a reasonable facsimile of a 1G if all the other parts are in place.
Not the right coach? Let's fire the Cup winning coach, let's fire the coach with a .605 winning percentage.
I don't think the current Flyers FO has the stones to ruffle feathers and be that aggressive - let alone be successful at it.
At best they'll do something like predators. Sign Stamkos/Tavares to be their 1C while trotting out washed Schenn/Fisto on their top pair due to heaviness. The thing is, even though they seem to have chosen a difficult path, it's still a path that can lead to success. There definitely is something depressing about the All or Nothing philosophy in American sports. There's one trophy and everything else doesn't seem to matter.Maybe Lombardi was on to something. I knew someone would come here spewing this shit the moment I saw DeLo was playing. He had 0 impact on that game. His fight was a f***ing joke that he almost lost to one of the worst guys who does that stupid, unneeded job in today's NHL. Anyone who thinks enforcers still have the impact they had in the 70's or 80's is stuck in the mentality that is why the Flyers are losing games and fans in droves. I talked today with a coworker who a month ago couldn't believe that I was so far out on this team after being a diehard before Covid. Guess what, he's where I am now also. f*** this team until they get skilled playersEnergy guys (as they are often called) do bring energy and when they are around sometimes other players play bigger. It is a team game and everybody has a role.
I'm not suggesting guys like him are the key to success, that would be silly, but they do matter.

It's hard to enjoy the journey when all that matters is the destination.
The tanking debates are not dopey. The tanking debates don't suggest that tanking is the only road that can work. It suggests that the tanking road is the most likely road to lead you to where you need to get to.Agreed on all fronts. It's why I never participate in the dopey tanking debates. All roads can work. Some just ask a lot more of the org trying to implement them. I trust maybe 4 NHL orgs to navigate a rough one.
The fight was simply a dick measuring contest. Had no value in the game.I knew someone would come here spewing this shit the moment I saw DeLo was playing. He had 0 impact on that game. Pitchers and catchers report Monday for my favorite team.

Text from Tortorella. "Hey Andrei, how do you feel about blocking shots? How are you in defensive tracking? Glad to have you on the team. "Tell me you're behind the times without telling me you're behind the times. Jesus John. I get preferring phone calls but if you can't reach the dude how hard is it to send a text "Hey Andrei, John Fartasmella. Wanted to say we're excited to have you join. Reach out as soon as youre available".
This morning there was some ice issues but nothing too wild.I checked YYZ departures and the Philly flight is one of the few that is cancelled. Is the weather bad in Philly?
