This is one of those things that's completely fine on the surface. Every org is going to have guys that don't work out.

But it sure doesn't refute some common talking points like path of least resistance and favored sons given other trade rumors.

You can spin this basically any way and it's not crazy.
That’s always going to be my biggest issue. They prioritized the growth of other players over both Farabee and Frost, and then got upset that neither of these guys developed further.

Just read it at face value. They usually telegraph pretty clearly what they think/will do.

- Farabee had negative value related to the contract.

He won’t say it was because of Tortorella but alluded to a lack of development by both, when compared to other younger guys on the team.

- Cap space kept being brought up. For anyone that doesn’t think they aren’t the flyers of old, with the same bullshit philosophies - it’s on display.

Free agency is where they hope to acquire a good chunk of their talent. With this pro scouting staff, and the kind of players that usually hit UFA seeking paydays. That’s terrifying.

Briere is an idiot. Shocking considering the men who “taught” him.
Tortorella has his hands all over this organization. The guy can not develop or relate to young talent. We are seeing that with multiple players on the club. He doesn't want them and given any opportunity he will push them to flipped for an over twenty-five year old player. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Tortorella has approached Briere about moving out Michkov.
There is no reason as to why they want to nab all of these draft picks unless the aim is to flip them for veterans. My expectation is that the Flyers will go after FAs and RFAs as soon as they can. Perhaps offer sheet compensation for RFAs is the reason for getting draft choices in trades.

And its not the first, second or even third player it happened with. Actively hurting abilities or value (or both) and then get sad when a) not finding takers, b) finding takers with baaaad value

Danny says teams weren't willing to take on Joels salary
This is spin on his part. Flyers brass like to talk to the fans as if they're stupid. It's a cap environment. A lot of teams are tight to the cap and the trade deadline is approaching. They have players they're going to target. There is never going to be widespread teams ready to take on a 5M cap hit unless that player is a top notch player. That is the cap environment. Yet we're supposed to believe that teams are lined up ready to take on Ristolainen?

If 18 months really is their timeframe I'm curious what happens with Torts - doesn't make sense for anyone to go into next year with a lame duck coach.

Not sure we're going to like the answer either.

Don’t believe the draft picks they’ve acquired will help with offer sheets.

They have to use their own picks and offer sheets this offseason aren’t going to be 2025 draft picks so it’s not even a matter of offsetting.

I’d like to assume the front office knows this but you can never be too sure.

York has also stagnated, I don't think Foerster is developing like of want him to at all, and Cates is in a contract year so they're utter losers if they don't account for that.

Brink and Andrae are really the only ones who I have marked as overall clear-cut no buts positives in development, and they're getting there by doing a ton of things the team actively despises with every scrap of their being. So, they're doing it on their own and against guidance from above.

It’s why putting so much hope into “development” of such guys is an asinine strategy.

Guys like Frost, Farabee, Cates, Tippet, York. I’ve bought cartons of eggs that have more variance.

The fatal flaw in this plan is constantly illustrated. Putting the success of an organization on the shoulder’s of men who don’t have the raw talent to be able to properly elevate a team is in no better terms… utter bullshit.

You’re just not finding the Arabians, and Thoroughbreds with their strategy. To keep swinging the whip, and blaming guys for not being able to do more - is just sad to watch at this point.

I dunno. It’s just more of the same old with the Flyers.

Torts said he’ll never coach on the last year of a contract again so we’ll get resolution on that soon.

Either an extension or a more likely move to the front office with Shaw or Lappy taking over.

None of that is good.

I kind of want to get a bunch of people together to go to practice and hold up signs that are just printouts of the "Smart Teams/Dumb Teams" bullets.

I wouldn't love it but if it was Shaw I'd at least have to give them credit for not hiring a retread.

I'm very afraid it's going to be Lappy.

Yeah, but he’s not consistent.
He's inconsistent because of the the line blender that Tortorella operates every game. I don't think that the Flyers ever really had an eye on Farabee''s talents from the day that he was drafted. He sort of fell into their lap on draft day but after that they didn't know what he was as a player. When Giroux was traded he commented that Farabee was the most talented player left on the roster.
However TPTB didn't want a talented winger. They wanted a power forward which Farabee was never going to be; especially after his serious neck surgery. JB is just another example of the Flyers pounding a square peg into a round hole and then complaining that it didn't fit.
Here's hoping that Farabee can get back to playing the way that he is suited and has a nice career. My fear is that he's another one of the Flyer's toys that has been too broken by them and will not be able to be fixed.

Please know that every single post I make about this team is veiled criticism of the team or comments made by other people.

They are upset that Morgan Frost isn’t consistent but don’t realize that every every player in the nhl is inconsistent in the way they mean it outside of the bonafide stars.

We have to keep in mind what rebuilding is to the Flyers. Rebuilding is not concentrating on the draft. We know from past history, they will only sit still for so long patiently. This deal in their mind is for rebuilding. It gives them a lot of cap flexibility in the future. Where they can get back in the game in wheeling and dealing. That's how they rebuild. It's work so well to this point, what could go wrong?
I posted recently that the rebuild was about culture instead of roster with a healthy dose of sarcasm. I was wrong to be sarcastic.

It’s a continuation of the shit though. Rocky will stay. No overhaul will happen. Just the New Era of Orange Chapter Two.

A continuation of Torts’ foundation.
The potential saving grace for all of this is that this product won't sell. Attendance will fall along with viewership. With Comcast moving along in the new South Broad Street sports complex, having the worst product in the line is unacceptable.

They want true star players while thinking they hate true star players
