Just read it at face value. They usually telegraph pretty clearly what they think/will do.

- Farabee had negative value related to the contract.

He won’t say it was because of Tortorella but alluded to a lack of development by both, when compared to other younger guys on the team.

- Cap space kept being brought up. For anyone that doesn’t think they aren’t the flyers of old, with the same bullshit philosophies - it’s on display.

Free agency is where they hope to acquire a good chunk of their talent. With this pro scouting staff, and the kind of players that usually hit UFA seeking paydays. That’s terrifying.

Briere is an idiot. Shocking considering the men who “taught” him. Gear up for another decade lost. If he thinks it was hard to clear Farabee’s salary, just wait until he sees the league interest for the guys hill will open the paycheque for in UFA.

It's time to rip the band aid off. Your willing to take an L on a trade but your holding out for the perfect deal for Laughton, Risto, etc... You don't say your going to do this the right way when your getting goodwill pricing in trades. Maybe we will be ready to excelerate the rebuild by the time that 7th round pick is selected

They wanted to go after Kuzmenko in free agency even

I thought this quote from Charlie was kind of pertinent to the bolded above. Pretty clear indication that the organization just wasn’t happy with Frost or Farabee’s progress.

I think Tippett is gonna regress pretty hard. Frost seemed to be the only center he connected with in terms of looking to make plays. I fear he's going to go back to blind turret Tippett.

Which to me is fine. I wasn’t either really.

Doesn’t mean they are useless, and you are forced to sell at the absolute lowest you can. Makes me think they wanted to move Farabee for a while without retention, and jumped at the chance when Calgary was willing. So be it, I don’t disagree with that move.

With Frost as well, you weren’t going to extend him. So be it.

My actual issue with the moves isn’t the moves themselves. It’s that they seem far too willing to overuse free agency to acquire talent - which is a death sentence in today’s NHL.

The bigger issue to me…

Only Sanheim (barely), and TK remain from quite a promising group of players not drafted too long ago. It’s far too convenient to blame it on Hextall, and lack any further analysis into various staff/departments - but that’s what they are doing.

Oh Jesus hell. Current Tippett is barely tolerable. Bad Tippett might just radicalize me into considering violence

This is one of those things that's completely fine on the surface. Every org is going to have guys that don't work out.

But it sure doesn't refute some common talking points like path of least resistance and favored sons given other trade rumors.

You can spin this basically any way and it's not crazy.

York has also stagnated, I don't think Foerster is developing like I'd want him to at all, and Cates is in a contract year so they're utter losers if they don't account for that.

Brink and Andrae are really the only ones who I have marked as overall clear-cut no buts positives in development, and they're getting there by doing a ton of things the team actively despises with every scrap of their being. So, they're doing it on their own and against guidance from above.
