Confirmed with Link: Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee traded to Calgary for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 2nd, 2028 7th

$5M isn't going to make much of a difference. What will it buy you on the FA market?
And the 2025 draft isn't going to arrive until 2027/2028.
So exactly how does this "speed up the timeline?"

The timing suggests the opposite, Briere is basically deep sixing this season, which means they've decided this team can't even make a PO run so no point waiting.
We’re dealing with a GM that is “that stupid.” Stop and realize that and maybe alter your thought this organization has any clue what they’re doing.

It means they’re going to be spending money this year on FA. The plan put out there is to make the playoffs next year and be a contender the following year.

How do they do that with where the team currently is? That spend. It’s go time.

When they tell you and show you who they are, believe them.

They persuaded him to waive his NTC to come over. In that context, Briere has no balls to move him at the TDL again - last guy who had guts to do that was Homer
That was probably Calgary's condition to make the trade for Farabee.
Flyers would only want him b/c he was a teammate of Michkov in Russia.

However:
1) The trade developed while the Flames hosted the Anaheim Ducks - i.e. after the Flyers lost to the Isles - i.e. Briere decided to pull the plug on the season. They had been talking for a while.
2) During the 2021-22 campaign, when he had 20 goals and 53 points in 45 games, Kuzmenko was a teammate of Flyers rookie Matvei Michkov.

That's a pretty tenuous connection, Michkov would have been 16-17, doubt he hung out much with Kuzmenko.

Conjecture.

Unless part of the thing that persuaded him was "Sure, you don't want to be here, but we'll find somewhere you'd rather be at the deadline."

Torts was playing both players top six minutes the last ten games, if he was that sick of them he'd have buried them. They weren't in the team's long-term plans but there was no reason to move them either.

I think it was more Briere patiently shopping while waiting to see if the team could put together a run that would delay decisions - he wouldn't have moved them now if he thought the team had a shot at the playoffs - not because he cares about the POs but b/c the players deserved the chance if they could make it happen.

When that run didn't materialize, Briere pulled the plug on the season. He knew what was out there in terms of offers - Kuzmenko seems more like a sop to Michkov than anything else - otherwise he's not a good fit. Pelletier is a depth addition, the fact he was a 1st rd pick is no more relevant than Farabee and Frost being 1st rd picks. It was basically dumping Farabee's contract and Frost for a 2nd and "B" prospect.

This move makes sense if Briere is going to initiate a fire sale, move out anyone with value who doesn't fit their future plans. Finish in the top ten, Colorado in the high teens, Edmonton in the high 20s, then #37, #40, #45 (CBJ), #50 (CGY). That's enough ammunition to target 3 or 4 players.
Thanks, dead. Occam's Razor doesn't look kindly on the Machiavellian Briere version of events, and I am certain we can't glean anything from Tortorella's usage of personnel, which is a usually punitive mess of shift-by-shift changes. I agree with you that this move should point to a fire sale, but Farabee as a cap dump and Frost for lesser parts that don't address losing a centre certainly left meat on the bone from an asset standpoint. The argument is circular that Briere got the value of these players because that's what he got. I guess we can revisit the unfolding of Briere's grand scheme as we get closer to the TDL and judge this trade on the wider merit of the plan.

Frost and Farabee will both do well away from Torts.

This has to be part of a plan for a 1C. I don’t want EP though. Sell everything off for actual value and draft well.

Danny with cap space is an absolutely frightening proposition. Buckle up for maximum long term damage.
NHL 3rd and 4th line players who are UFA's this off-season.

I cant even with the spins. So spineless

1. Guy claims for months there is no rush to make a move prior to certain point in time
2. Team makes a move prior to said point in time
3. Return is underwhelming. Guy admits so himself. Says in disbelief "the GM isnt that stupid"
4. Guy keeps licking boots of the team despite wrong thing (he admits) was acquired at a wrong time (he admits).

Brilliant

I mean... yeh... when you think about it the most likely few options for moving Farabee mean that either:

They changed their mind enormously in a few months on a tiny sample.
He was never in their plans to begin but failed to cash in when value higher.

And either of those would mean horrific shortsightedness and not much forward planning.

The Flyers would NEVER do something like that.

Thats what annoyed me so much I keep spamming this thread - its nothing new. Again, continually minimizing value, alienating the player, moving him at lowest value point. Minimize return, celebrate locker room. Nothing new. Nothing.

The trade developed while the Flames hosted the Anaheim Ducks, and Pelletier was pulled from the game. The 23-year-old played 5:22 of ice time.

We've talked about the players maybe even last year and this year, but it never really made sense. We were going back and forth. It just wasn't the right time or wasn't the right return,” Conroy said via NHL.com. "Today it just happened to really speed up and became, 'Look, this makes sense for both teams, let's do it.'"

And? What about the rest?

When’s the last time the Flyers traded anyone of value (not an AHLer or random bottom six shitter) and didn’t actively hurt their value with their words directly to the media and/or the players usage first?

When have they got more value than they lost? When have they improved the teams present or future in any meaningful way?

It’s a part of their process at this point. That’s why they’ll remain a joke.

You guys will love Pelts, sucks losing him. Might be the biggest glue guy I’ve ever seen. He’s been playing really well since his last call-up. He won’t be much more than a middle six guy that kills penalties and chips in 15-20 in his prime, but you guys will love him.

Kuzy is hilarious. He’s an easy guy to cheer for. His interviews are the best. Play wise, when he’s on, he’s f***ing great. When he’s off, you won’t even notice him.

I don’t think you guys did as bad as everyone is saying. Especially finding out that Kuzy and Michkov are good buddies.

Anyways, take care of Pelts. He’s the friggin best
sweet another "glue" guy..

so your saying we traded for yet another plug of a nobody..

well he wont be lonely.. this f***ing Org. collects plugs like its a pokemon convention

I’d just like to take this opportunity to introduce the idea of everyone here, as a group, totally abandoning this dead franchise and switching fandom to a completely different team, in a completely different sport.

That way we maintain this board’s dynamic while removing the biggest source of irritation from the equation.

We just rebrand the board, delete all old threads, change some usernames/avatars, and pretend nothing happened. Nobody will even notice.

Just need to find a team that doesn’t have a single person named Bobby, Keith, Danny, or John employed and were set.
#following.. 👍

Don't worry guys, Briere got a shit return but at least he shook things up!

The only direction they are going is down.

Walker. Beyond that I cannot remember.
