More points this season: Michkov or Bedard?

before the preseason started, it was a no brainer question in favor of Bedard, but now I’m actually not so sure, as Michkov arguably has a better offensive help with guys like Konecny, Couturier and their PP puck movement looks very fluid

Bedard and its not even f***ing close lmao... And I am a massive Michkov fan.
I think it will be pretty close, probably a 5pt difference between the two. Chicago is also a worse team with less offence, so it should be a tight race imo.
If both healthy I expect michkov to be in the 70-80 pt range, Bedard should be ppg-90 pts.

No offense, but this thread seems to be an overreaction to pre season. Bedard was a much bigger prospect and will be in his sophomore season whereas Michkov will be a rookie.

I got Bedard by 15 points ish, better question is Bedard going to gun for -50 this year?
30 of those were in the first 41 games. Will be interesting to see if his back can hold up for a full year or if he’ll fall off again.

Over his last 3 seasons he's paced for 53 points/82 games. I personally feel it's closer to the latter.
Like you said, health the biggest question mark though.

Bedard has already had a solid season putting up most of his points with Kurashev and Foligno. He has the benefit on knowing the league better and now has guys like Bertuzzi, Teravainen and Hall to find chemistry with.
Well that and obviously have to be careful with hype created by preseason.
Wouldn't be slightly shocked to see a Calder caliber season from Michkov but expect more from Bedard
Koneckny, frost, tippet, and others if couturier is a defensive c and could get 50 points michkov much like Bedard will be the main offensive driver. Torts likes him as well because michkov doesn't play the typical game of a skill rookie, he goes to the boards and hard areas so his ice time will be good. However with things like shot and skating being in Bedard's favor but playmaking and hands are a wash and iq, slight edge in the creativity department to michkov though he is a little bit more deceptive and unpredictable than Bedard which could result in him getting a handful of points that Bedard won't have.
Well Bedard was on pace for 74 points last season, so assuming absolutely no progression from him that’s the mark to beat. That’d require Michkov to have the 3rd best U20 rookie season in the salary cap era to beat it, behind Ovechkin and Crosby. Whenever a stat requires “do something only Ovechkin and Crosby did”, smart money bets the other way. That’s all assuming no progression from Bedard at all either, which prospects of his caliber just haven’t done in the salary cap era either.
If Michkov hits 60-65 points this season, that’d be an extremely successful rookie year and probably a runaway win for the Calder. People need to temper their expectations just because he’s had a good preseason. Every year 2 or 3 young guys look like gods in the pre-season and this site jumps on the bandwagon hard, then the regular season rolls around and all of a sudden every established NHLer starts trying and the young guys stats regress hard. I still viscerally remember the year Ty Rattie embarrassed the league in pre-season and the way too many horrible takes that were made because of it.

Im not entirely convinced that Chicago is that much worse than Philly on paper…

To be fair, Michkov is not a normal rookie, playing for his life in the preseason, he's a transcendent talent, and if you watched him, you know he will do the exact same shit when the season starts lol.
He’s the favorite for the Calder and anyone with eyes knows he not a typical rookie. Doing the exact same stuff in the pre-season as the regular season just yields worse results.
To provide an example, a 65 point draft +1/2 rookie campaign beats out every player save for Crosby, Ovechkin, Kane, Backstrom, and Matthews in the cap era. That’s insane company to keep already. Anyone expecting a higher bar for a successful season doesn’t understand what being a young player in the NHL is, that season still shows superstar/top of the league potential.

It's unlikely for the rookie to beat out the sophomore, particularly when considering if Tortorella decides to start "teaching" Michkov lessons of one kind or another, but if it did happen, it wouldn't be the most outlandish outcome ever.
