Tavares was solid at the World Championships. I know it's semi-competitive but he looked solid both offensively and defensively.

I go with him just based on the sample size of his career. Slav which undoubtedly exceed Tavares in the near future, just not sure it will be this season. He should get every opportunity to do so, but young players can be streaky.

Tavares because of the surrounding cast, Montreal is still young. Slaf probably ends up as a PPG player in a couple years, just don't see them making that leap this season. Tavares will get points simply by being on a line with Marner/Nylander + PP time with Matthews.

Habs fan here, voted JT.

I believe Slaf will become a ppg player eventually, but his development might not be linear, he will have some bump. I predict around 60 points for him this year. JT will get more than that.

Really shocked JT is winning this.

Even as a Leafs fan I have Tavares as one of the leading candidates for older players who might fall off a cliff this season (along with Malkin). JT is just so slow these days.

Slafkovsky conversely is one of the leading young guns who might pop off and enter superstar territory.

I'd be surprised if JT is over 70 points and surprised in Slafkovsky is below it based on how the end of last season went.

I'm not surprised, alot of Habs fans are voting for JT .

Alot of it is just years of acceptance that we don't get ppg first line studs like other teams in Montreal. We also don't wanna put too much expectations on the kid , he really did look good at the end of the year though.

Toronto's top 6 is gonna score alot of points Tavares is basically a lock for 60

Tavares plays with much better players. He will get a lot of points because of that. Tavares will be in the 70 point range. Slafkovsky will be 40-50.
Lol, so worse than last year? He scored 50 points last year, and 3/4 of them came after December.

Just a blatant hater 😂

Slafkovsky is trending very similar to early Draisaitl, while I don’t think slaf explodes into a 100+ point player I think slafkovsky has a good chance at 70 this season

Why did Tavares score so little last year?

65 points? He's only 33 - league scoring is up, Toronto is a good team, it's weird. I could see a strong bounce back of ~85 points if he trains hard and is motivated to do well. This is a contract year for him too right?

Maybe he even blows it out and has 90-95 points in a contract year.

As a Habs fan I don't expect much out of Slafvosky. Maybe ~60-70 points tops - we're not allowed to have ppg players in Montreal. He'll have a good year, but I say he gets less points than Tavares.
What do you mean he's "only" 33? Most players have started to decline by the time they're 33.

This is the best version of Tavares I’ve seen in Toronto so far. Playing excellent in all zones and has added a bit of grit to his game that I haven’t seen to date.

Looking forward to seeing what he does for the rest of the year

Still has miles left and hopefully they can re-sign him at a decent price

Slafkovsky will never be in the same class as Tavares.

Hockey IQ never improves. He is a absolutely low IQ player and in any and most other drafts he doesn't even go top 10.

What must have you done to the Hockey gods to end up getting the 1st pick in the 2022 draft.

Wow. He's basically a little like Nichuskin. I believe he'll have a few 65-75 point seasons towards his mid 20's or peak years. But it's a brutal player to have the chance to select 1st overall.
