Moose Season Discussion

Another Moose game, another yikes.

This Moose season is the equivalent of letting the downtown Bay stay open in order to close, staffed by one somnolent salesperson with an inventory consisting of a few tired racks of Jordache and discard jeggings and some boxes of HBC novelty chocolate that fell off the back of a Laura Secord truck somewhere near White River.

Have mercy already, and either bring in some players or sell the team, TNSE and Jets "synergies" be damned.

What I'd like to know is who is still buying tickets to go to these games. Like honestly, who even is the target market for "last place AHL team". It's not like the tickets are even that cheap, the lowest priced pair of seats on Ticketmaster for tomorrow's game is $72 with taxes and fees. You can get a pair for tonight's Jets game on FansFirst for $100. Yes they're nosebleed seats but in terms of entertainment value it will be 1000x better for not much more money.

Concessions are the same price too, so yeah, AHL-worst hockey at NHL prices! At least the organist isn't there for Moose games!

I've never seen a player constantly getting in the way and even bumping into his teammates as much as JAD, he just looks totally lost out there. Crazy that he's been playing on the top line all season - it ain't working.

I don't think that's the top line. Maybe the checking line. Lambert with Ford was probably the top line. And now with Lambert up, Chibrikov done, and Salomonsson still injured I think Parker Ford is the only legitimate prospect the Jets have to call up.

What did you think of Phillips and Bauer as a d-pairing? I noticed they were on the scoresheet a lot. Both sides. Coghlan got walked pretty bad for the eventual GWG.

Milic didn't look strong either.

Yeah Coghlan looked pretty bad on that one.

Hate to say it but Phillips looks a lot like a shorter version of Logan Stanley. Very immobile in our end. He got twisted up in front of our net pretty bad on one of the goals, looked like he didn't know who to take. In fairness to him he's still new to our system but I wasn't impressed. Lots of bending at the waist and reaching when he should be moving his feet, along with ineffective tie-ups in front.

Bauer looks like he has improved his skating since last season, he had one good moment where he had to track back into our zone to break up a potential breakaway/2 on 1. But overall the puck-moving from that pairing was mostly non-existent. They got stuck in our end a lot.

I would say our defence is still the main issue. Lundmark and Coghlan are our best defenders with Salo out but both are flawed players - Coghlan on the defensive side and Lundmark offensively. There's just no one the team can count on.

Milic's season has also been very disappointing... Seems like his confidence is shot, and he is so small that he can be scored on from anywhere, especially if he is screened. There's a lot of room to shoot in the top half of the net.

Wonder if Zinger would ever get on the hotseat for the quality of the moose, feels like his rosters always suck.
I'm curious about how much of the roster construction is on him. The top players have to be at least somewhat useful to the Jets in case they're called up (Toninato, JAD, Coglahn, etc) so Chevy likely is highly involved in those signings

And those players have been able to play reasonably well at the NHL level. Toninato on several occasions over several years, Coghlan just recently. JAD looked good in TC. AJF has been pretty good in the past. The young prospects have all shown more in the past than with the Moose this year.

I'm not convinced that the problem is with the roster, on paper. It seems like everybody is failing to live up to reasonable expectations. By all appearances there is some other problem. I have no real idea what it might be.

Solid .826 outing from Milic. I think the Moose are up the creek no matter what with him and Krappo between the pipes.

Maybe they're trying to test my theory that outscoring (or trying to outscore) terrible goaltending builds character...
Does annyone have a paddle?

Mistake to sign Milic to an ELC …. Fooled by fools gold with his play last year when he was on an AHL contract…

Goalies are Voodoo!!!!

“If you can’t stand the Heat get out of the Kitchen”

I Blame the short GM for the Moose that looks like Joe Pesci!

“I don’t think he gives a pluck!”

He’s been “ plucked at the Drive- thru “ too many times.

25 years plus years as GM and they can’t get a better supporting cast…. He should know better.

Stan Smyl and the Canucks put out a better product.

Canucks can thank Zinger for Chris Tanev and Alex Burrows.

I was watching an the first ever game in the new building and Heisinger was talking about knowing where every fuse was in the old building if there was a short circuit. He's been around so long I think he's just part of the territory now. Got to learn the various aspects that it takes to run an organization.

I think it's one part regression in some prospects, one part injuries, on both clubs, one part poor drafting by Chevy, not enough talent to stock the shelves with, and one part maybe True North going the cheap route with an AHL product that isn't profitable.

Maybe they miss Nolan Baumgartner too.

I'm not calling for any heads to roll. Chevy and Zinger are likely on the same page, whether Morrison and Arniel are, I'm no insider, but I guess we'll find out in the offseason.

Other than the fact that he played 39 games with the Moose, I don't think Zinger had anything to do with Tanev. But he did sign Burrows to an AHL deal. You're thinking of Rypien maybe? He was another Zinger signing.
