Moose Season Discussion

Jets prospects rotting on an underwhelming ahl lineup
I wouldn't say they are rotting, if you can call up Chibrikov, Lambert and Salomonsson at the end of the season, they've developed, probably developed a bad taste for losing with quality ice time.

I still look at that defense as the main problem and how do you make it better at this point? Can't send down Coghlan, can't heal Salomonsson any faster.

I think the shocker to me is JAD has 4 points, and is -22 in 16 games. If he was supposed to replace Malott, he hasn't in any way. Some people saw him as a legit replacement for Appleton, but Appleton was never that bad in the A.

Yikes that -22 is the worst plus/minus in the AHL.

Appleton was a superstar for the Moose, he won rookie of the year in the AHL and was a first team all star. That year we got the Petan Roslovic Appleton line for awhile and they were unbelievable.

Being a hot rookie in the AHL seems to be a crapshoot, I mean look at Sami Niku.

But that said, I guess at the end of the day you don't need all that much from your AHL team. Just a few guys to fill key vacancies. Look at the Moose roster from their first few seasons back in Winnipeg (2015, 16, 17) and yeah you had Connor, Morrissey, Hellebuyck but most of those guys never even had a taste of the NHL.

Put this one in the coaching category. Last place Moose losing to first place in the AHL Wranglers, 3-1 after 1 period. Just looking at the coaches for these two teams, and on the bench for the Wranglers as assistants to Brett Sutter, are Martin Gelinas and Joe Cirella with over 2100 games of NHL experience combined.

Behind the Moose bench 11 NHL games between Morrisson, Klimchuk and Dubois. Varying degrees of AHL, CHL and IHL experience.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I don't think Chaz Lucius has scored since his first week back, when he was on a line with AJF and Parker Ford. Since then the coaches have been trying to fit him and Lambert together, without much success, and tonight Chibrikov is up there too, put all the prospective eggs in one basket. -4 combined after 1 period. 2 shots.

Eh, Moose just scored...

Well that worked...

Lucius scores his 3rd of the season, assisted by Lambert, to make it a 4-3 game, with 2:40 left in the 3rd.

Mason Shaw scores with the goalie pulled, assisted by Lambert and Anhorn, to get the game into OT.

And the Moose get a point, Martin Frk ends it in overtime.

Milic came in for Kahkonen, who gave up 3 goals on 9 shots, after the 1st.

Moose with a late goal from prospects line propel themselves to 3-2 win:

Nice weekend for the Moose getting 3 points out of 4 against the best team in the A.

Looks like there is finally some chemistry with the young guns.

Parker Ford I still wonder if he is on the radar as a 4th line energy guy, who can kill penalties.

Two things I noticed. One, the Moose had their best weekend since week 1 with their captain on the Jets. Does that mean anything?

Two, Milic was the goalie of record in both games, after Kakkonen bowed out with a weak 1st period in game 1 of the road trip, getting pulled. At some point does the organization have enough faith in their young goalies to ship Kahkonen off for a late round pick to a team that needs immediate goalie help? Like Ottawa, who are tenuously holding down a playoff spot. If not a draft pick maybe a tough guy like Zach Mac Ewen for a string of games coming up on the schedule that look to be physical in nature.

Lucius is playing better and better, if he gets more healthy games under his belt, he could be a really interesting player. His natural ability is very apparent.
Lambert is driving so much of the offense for the Moose, he's not having his best season as the team struggles overall but without him, the Moose would be in real trouble.
Bauer has played really well since his injury. I love his passion.

I think the biggest change is that they finally woke up and put Lucius, Lambert, and Chibrikov on a line together
You have to note how bad Kahkonen has been. He's now the team worst in GAA at 3.77. Looking a lot like the veteran Delia did last year. Which has given Milic another chance, that he made good on, while still looking like an adventure in net.

That line got 2 big goals on the weekend. Out of 7 the Moose scored. Parker Ford also put up 2 goals, so that's the Jets top 4 forward prospects contributing.

It's a process I guess because Lambert and Chibrikov had zero chemistry in the Young Stars. I don't think they got on the same line in preseason as a result. When put together on the Moose there were no results. Chibrikov gets called up, Lucius comes back, and after one good weekend Lucius had a string of bad games, with Lambert on his line., the Abbotsford series being probably their worst. But put the 3 together and maybe it lines up. 2 fast players on the wing, a playmaker and a scorer, and Lucius in the middle?

The defense also appears to be stabilizing. The Moose have run Sauntner-Lundmark, Anhorn-Barteaux, Kuzmin-Bauer for a string of games now, maybe they are finally starting to gel, as the defensive breakdowns in the highlights were less prominent this weekend. When Salomonsson comes back will be interesting to see who sits.

Lucius staying healthy and getting a run of games is worth celebrating on its own. That he's doing it whilst contributing to a few wins is even better. He has always had an intriguing skillset, capable of creating chances and potting a few himself with that quick release, a sorta Barlow Plus.

Would love to see more of him on the Prospect Line. He still has a fair bit of catching up to do development-wise, but continued strong play on a line that is finally looking to have some chemistry should help to confirm him as an important part of this generation of baby Jets.

Would love to see The Forgotten Prospect return to the fold.

I think the Jets meds to make room for Salo next season. Goodbye Pionk?

I think (hope?) Salo will be ready next season. He was not all that far off in TC and hadn't had any time to adjust to NA ice yet. He hit the ground running with the Moose so I am fairly confident. I wouldn't bet the farm on it though. He may need more time.

Dylan Anhorn had a helluva game from the highlights. Maybe starting to feel it now. I think the Jets should sign him for next year, on a two way deal.

Parker Ford is on a bit of a heater too. He should be getting some attention.

Milic is playing more than Kahkonen, and he's at least getting some Ws again.
