Montreal!!!

I remember Solid Gold. Not sure if it's still around.

Yes, it is!
Visit all bars on Crescent Street, St.Laurent Blvd, St.Denis Street and Old Montreal (old port). There are also many fantastic restaurants around the Bell Centre, especially St.Laurent street and Little Italy (further down St.Laurent Street - further from the Bell Centre).
Don't know how old you are, but Peel Pub is a good drinking hole if you're under 20.
Enjoy the city, although I'm a die hard Rangers fan, I really think Montreal is an amazing place! LGR!!!

Had tickets for tonight's game that I gave up, don't want to be any where near the Bell Center wearing my Rangers jersey:shakehead

nash trade? was worth it?

guys do you think the jackets won the nash trade? erixon is playing well and aa is on fire. that first round pick might get higher a middle first rounder could be a star. also dubinsky was part of the deal. what do you guys think?

Whatever you do, do not drive (seriously, they're a bunch of lunatics). If you have to drive, remember no right turns permitted on red lights in Quebec. The police there love to ding any Ontario/US plates they see for anything. :shakehead

I guess your mileage varies from mine (pun intended) but I've been living and driving here for over 5 years with NY plates and that hasn't been the case at all. People drive, I guess swiftly is the right word, but not nearly as bad as dealing with taxis in NYC. Smaller avenues don't allow for constant criss-crossing and maneuvering. And cops don't give a **** about my plates anywhere. Perhaps Ontario, that I don't know.

Do yourself a favor and dont go there. Its a tourist trap. Theres a place across the street called maison du biftheque . so much better than schwartzs plus they serve beer and the service is fast.

Absolutely incorrect. Any local will tell you the opposite. It'd be pretty hard to find a true Montrealer who doesn't recommend Schwartz's as authentic. There are rumors of a slight dip in quality since Celine Dion bought it, but I'd take that with a grain of salt... she has a lot of haters. It's still epic smoked meat, just like Viateur is the place to go for bagels (very different from NYC bagels, and totally worth trying) and Banquise is a great poutine place. No tourist traps, though tourists will go there as well since they're just universally recognized as being awesome at that they do.

Havent been up there in a year, does st. catherine street still smell like the subway?

Weird. Never smelled that... if anything Montreal smells a lot nicer than NYC, as someone having spent equal times living in both. But hey, it's a city and any city will smell like poop sometimes

Lot's to see up here, especially the women!!! Put it this way, if you can't get l**d in Mtl. u have serious issues!

Listen to this man! It's one of the reasons I moved here, seriously.

The women here are not only gorgeous but they're also so approachable. Something in the water. People say NYC has awesome women... NYC doesn't come close to Montreal in my experience. You can't throw a stone without hitting a girl you'd take home. Just be smooth in your approach since the sentiment here among the Francophones (who all speak some level of English, especially younger generations) is kinda iffy on Americans in general. It's hard to put in words, but Quebecers love to mock Americans for their arrogance, entitlement and extreme patriotism. Go big or go home type stuff. If you're too cocky/rowdy you'll instantly be dismissed as a typical American. Otherwise it's open-minded and you'll be given the benefit of the doubt, especially if you're good looking :)

Is Chez Paree still around?

Yep. Still over-priced and mediocre entertainment, but also still the place to go for some of the hottest strippers. Playmate style girls basically. Better value and fun to be had elsewhere though.

Got back earlier this afternoon from Montreal and had a great time, despite the terrible game I sat through. Went out for Italian on Friday. Ate at a place called DaVinci's on a suggestion from Andrew Gross. Really good food and we saw Cally, Stepan, Girardi and McD there. We were waiting for a table and the maitre d was like, you're table will be ready in a minute, some hockey players are just finishing. I took a peek around the corner, saw McD and was like OH MY GOD!!!! They walked right past my wife and I and we both kind of just froze... lame, I know.

Saturday we took the walk from our hotel to Schwartz's for the famous smoked meat sandwich. The line was ridiculous and we were starving. Since I hadn't checked on here to see the suggestion for the place across the street, we went to Nickel's Deli which was recommended by one of our neighbors who grew up in Montreal. My wife liked it, but I wasn't impressed. I'm not a big fan of corned beef and that's what it reminded me of.

We did find some fun bars. McKibbins on Friday night, Brutopia before the game, and I don't even remember the name of the bar we went to afterwards. Had a good steak at the Fire Grille last night before heading for home today. We did see the "famous" Chez Paree and they advertise that they have "contact dances" now. I also think that some of the strippers were staying at my hotel as I saw 3 ladies headed out last night wearing what could only be described as stripper attire. Thought about asking them, but decided against it.

All in all, I would totally go back to Montreal and maybe see a Habs game that didn't involve the Rangers so I wouldn't care as much. Great arena, great fans and beer everywhere you look. Hurrah!
