The coach was a very large part of the reason we got to within a game of the Cup. Quennville hasn't won a series in almost a decade despite some pretty good teams. "Old school" leads to hires like Ken Hitchcock and Dave Tippett.

I don't disagree. However, it's difficult to support what we've seen thus far.

Oilers look flat and slow. They are giving up breakaways and crazy high danger chances every game at one end and are trying to score standing still along the boards at the other end.

I agree they don't look very good, but firing the coach that got you to game 7 of the SCF last year is a bad look. There's zero guarantee that Q or whatever coach they decide to replace Knoblauch with is going to work out in their favour too. They need a spark, but we're getting to the point where the players have to take some responsibility for their lackluster play.

Because the shots they take are perimeter muffins that have virtually no chance of going in. The "We always get more shots" argument falls flat when few are quality.

According to Knob this isn't the case, he said in his post-game presser the Oilers are among the league leaders in shots from the slot.

RNH has to be one of the biggest jokes of the year. He has the same point totals as Janmark and a worse plus/minus despite perennial top 6 minutes and cushy pp time.
He’s on pace for another 4 goal year, what a complete f***ing phony and fraud this player is.

No way in hell they can fire another coach man. That makes McDrai+ core look even worse as well.

The coach is like the blue print maker of the house. The core should be the foundation. Thwen complimentary guys framing and drywall. Add on deadline deals, etc the finishing.

We can't even get the foundation set properly it seems. Buy in is never 100%

We are up there in high dangers and that should average out goal wise, but they also take a lot of stupid shots.

What I keep harping about is that they do not go to the medium danger areas at all. You can score from there and get rebounds. They rely way too much on the points.

So why does our team struggle to score? It can't be that basically every goalie we face is some sort of Patrick Roy clone.
The exact same thing happened last season, and if it weren't for Evander Kane having like 8-10 goals by this point last year it would have been even worse. Couldn't tell you why they're once again going to spend the first couple months of the season being unable to beat a goalie, but it's not because of a lack of opportunities.

The team still doesnt look interested enough to pay the price to win.
Players and even Knob talked about how they are playing too much of a perimeter game.

I saw way too many passes where McDavid, Draisaitl and others tried to pass through multiple Habs players.
Not good enough...easy to defend. They play a SOFT game.
Montreal simply took the game away in the 3rd period. Out hit and out played the Oilers badly.

Not going to win very much playing like that.

Can we invest in a shooting coach? I swear, we are the worst shooting team in the league. Can't hit the net, can't get shots through, we all have the most predictable releases in the league. We aren't deceptive in our approach. It's one of our biggest issues and hasn't really changed in years. It's getting worse now that teams just park the bus on us.

While I am not happy with how KK has coached this year, to me this is roster construction plain and simple. JJ came in and made all the wrong moves player personnel wise, and SB exacerbated it by giving in to the offer sheets rather than putting Kane on LTIR and figuring it out as the summer went along when you can be 10% over the cap.

Now that we have handed out 2 and 3 year contracts to aging vets, lost our 2 playable young players and traded away our speed and defensive depth, we are a middling aging out old and slow team with inconsistent goaltending relying on our 2 superstars to get us through in a league that has them and our secret weapon powerplay figured out.

Yeah it makes you wonder if this team does any shooting drills in practice at least any that simulate game situations.

It must suck for Drai to finally think that he's getting top six wingers to play with only to find out he is still playing with bottom sixers like Podkolzin and Perry.

It's not like we don't have talent for this team. If the vets aren't cutting it, let him sit and give the kids a chance.

Podkolzin is the only player in the top 6 that is willing to go to the wall and initiate contact and win a puck battle. Hyman is doing it part time.
Very soft top 6 without Podkolzin in there.
The team cant afford to push him down the lineup.

At least change up the look then. Try Podkolzin with McDavid, maybe Connor will bank a puck in off his ass and get him going.

Move Hyman with Draisaitl, it looks like even McDavid is frustrated by his lack of finish this year.

KK is quickly becoming the "I'm all out of ideas and I've tried nothing" coach offensively. Make some freaking changes.

Henrique McDavid Podkolzin
Skinner Draisaitl Hyman

Maybe.

He wears an ‘A’ and might just own the all-time games played in an Oiler uniform.
Then you watch him play, wtf is wrong with this org?
Lowe owns the games played record, a guy with 5 cups and a guy who actually bled in the trench, RNH? The only reason he resigned here at a discount is because he has everyone here fooled. If he went to another team when he was a FA that fanbase would’ve ripped him to shreds by now.
And he knows it.

That’s a sad take. But unfortunately accurate. Gotta admit I’m surprised that every one of our signings this summer have been disasters so far.
