Burrows can stay here and we will re evaluate before the deadline. While he has a large cap hit let's not pretend burrows is a terrible player with nothing to offer

No thank you from Montreal. We don't have the cap space, but if Vancouver wants Flynn or Matteau, they can have them.

Burrows is the SEdin line insurance. Not everyone can fit with the Sedins. Burrows is the only sure fire fit known.

Personally, I wanted Burrows moved years ago. The Sedins and Burrows are the culture carriers in Vancouver and I am sick of it. If you take Burrows, you should take the twins to feed him passes, no?

could never fit them with cap. could take burrows if you took desharnais. we could perhaps give you a prospect and or a slightly better pick (say a fifth for a fourth ) if you held the difference in the cap back.

Both UFA at seasons end, intriguing.

$3.5M Desharnais + 4th for Burrows (20% retention) $3.6M + 5th

All these deals are terrible. Burrows at least holds leadership value in Vancouver if he hold no trade value around the league. He's well liked and is a quality soldier. No reason to take mediocre prospect depth and contract dumps for a player who actually adds value to our team. (As little as it can be).
Call back in Feb when the trade deadline is rounding the corner maybe we can work something out for both Burrows' getting a shot at the playoffs it the Habs don't **** the bed again and the Habs get good playoff depth.

sounds pretty reasonable. my shopping list would include hanzal and a left winger. wouldnt mind something a little better than burrows but hed definitely be a good depth soldier for the playoffs. we will talk again before the deadline.

Near the deadline I'd expect us to be somewhere in the 5-10 draft pick spot, so I'd be looking for a forward prospect with at least 1 more full season of waiver exemption(which would in turn also be expansion exempt). I'd hold 50% of his salary to get there, he'd be reasonable at 2.25m. I'd hope hed return in July for a much more reasonable rate and a continued lesser role as the years go by. But he's great in the locker room and would be highly missed in Vancouver I'd say.
If anyone remember when the Oilers dealt Stoll and Greene to LAK, I'd equate Burrows leadership value to the those two for the Oil at the the time. Those years just after the run when they weren't complete ****.

He's not as quick as he used to be, but he's a smart player. High IQ type of guy, perfect for the bottom 6 because he can be positionally sound, aggressive, whatever. He's a utility forward, has been used in the middle, but he's better as the puck hound dish it to a playmaker and get open guy. Decent in front of the net, always hungry for the puck. But his main asset was how easily he gained separation from most defenders, now at 34 he's not gonna blow many guys away but he isn't gonna be burned on much either.
If you have a free 3LW spot with two guys that can rather create offensively or create space or both between the two he's a perfect complimentary wing for that. Otherwise two skill players who can do most of the puck handling, but not the digging. Which was obvious by his time with the Twins

Terrible for Dallas. I'd rather Nichuskin leave for nothing than take cap and scraps for him
