The Habs have enough picks. IF there is a move down situation id want a 1st in the 8-12 range and a NHL ready player.
There will also be a point where they simply cannot sign all these young guys. There are only so many contract spots available. The Canadiens don't need "more darts" in the 2nd round while losing a 1st round pick. They have two picks in the 1st round, one in the 2nd, two in the 3rd, and twelve total. In 2025 they have two picks in the first round, two in the 2nd, three in the 3rd, and twelve total. Montreal needs quality players, not even more draft picks.
Idc if we have a lot of defencemen in the pipeline, they’re gold and easily tradable. Let’s not ignore the BPA just because we have that position covered.
I'm quite sure Habs pick going to be Ignila.
No interest in Mangiapane from the Habs. We would be looking for young 20-22 year old players with potential.I’d offer up Mangiapane + 9th to move up to 5.
Teams don’t trade those kinds of players. Good luckNo interest in Mangiapane from the Habs. We would be looking for young 20-22 year old players with potential.
Then Habs happily draft with the 5OA. Teams rarely trade down from 5OA!Teams don’t trade those kinds of players. Good luck
I doubt the Habs are moving their pick. Only way I can see it is if something crazy happens at draft. Basically first 4 picks are forwards. But not going to happen.I’d offer up Mangiapane + 9th to move up to 5.
Kent Hughes would be instantly fired if he made that trade.I’d offer up Mangiapane + 9th to move up to 5.
A middle six forward to trade down for a comparable level prospect, okayKent Hughes would be instantly fired if he made that trade.
Habs need size or elite offense (if the forward is small), mainly size tho.. that's why Lindstrom is the perfect target, he checks all the boxes.A middle six forward to trade down for a comparable level prospect, okay
A small middle 6 forward…. Yeah Hughes would be fired. Habs have zero interest obviously!A middle six forward to trade down for a comparable level prospect, okay
When he picked Slaf, there was every indication that Wright was dropping. Still 50/50 at going one, but he didn't go "off the board". Hence Wright falling to 4.I'm quite sure Habs pick going to be Ignila. They think he is going to be like his father. Another Brady draft situation. Unless something crazy happens at draft. They spent too much time on him not to be heavily interested. Hughes is known to go semi against the grain. He picked Slaf when everybody said Wright. He picked Reinbacher when everybody thought it was Michkov or Leonard
I think Habs are set on Tij Iginla. I suspect Lindstrom will be available and the Habs still pick Iginla. When he picked Slaf, there was every indication that Wright was dropping. Still 50/50 at going one, but he didn't go "off the board". Hence Wright falling to 4.
He picked Reinbacher when every fan was concerned because it looked like it was going to be Reinbacher. I think everyone and their mother knew who number 5 was going to be, unless one of the 3 centers dropped. Sure, we had hopes for Leonard and Dvorsky and Michkov, etc. but we all knew where he was going,
lol he doesn’t play small. He’s good for 45 points with minimal pp time. He would’ve been 4th amongst your forwards in points, playing on a shutdown line.A small middle 6 forward…. Yeah Hughes would be fired. Habs have zero interest obviously!
And teams don't trade 5th OA picks for 28 year old undersized depth wingers who are a year out from UFA. Montreal will just keep their pick and have their choice of a bigger pool of prospects. Calgary can keep their underwhelming offer and pick from. Who's left at 9Teams don’t trade those kinds of players. Good luck
Don’t act like Mangiapane is a desirable player that will move you to 5. We don’t know who the Habs will pick. We know #5 is vastly more valuable than 9. We know that a 45pt 28yo small middle 6 forward is hardly enough to move up to 5. That’s laughable and embarrassing. Hughes would be fired!lol he doesn’t play small. Flames will end up with one of Demidov, Iginla, Lindstrom, Catton, Levshunov, Dickinson, Silayev or Buium.
The thought that someone will trade a young stud to move up and pick a similar caliber player is obnoxious. I can see why Montreal would want to stay at 5 but don’t act like the 5th will have a vastly superior player to those available at 9.
The Flames are in no position to give up picks to only move up a few slots. We need more picks, not less. Many of us have told you already multiple times - we are more than happy with those that will be available at 9.Don’t act like Mangiapane is a desirable player that will move you to 5.
