Montreal and Boston absolutely bending Minnesota over here. Even if we ignore the exact value, not sure what Minnesota's roster motivation is to replace Rossi and Hartman with Mittelstadt and Kastelic. Minnesota needs 1st line players and a top 6 center that isn't short like Rossi is. Their biggest trade chip to get guys like that are Rossi. You're giving that trade chip away here in order to downgrade the roster and pick up a 2nd round pick and 3rd round pick. Zero logic. Mittelstadt isn't the answer at 2C long-term and he isn't a 1st liner.

EDIT - Montreal isn't getting amazing value in the way Boston is. Winner is clearly Boston, loser is clearly Minnesota. Montreal IMO comes out winning too but it's closer. They give up a lot but they get Rossi and Lysell. Not bad.

I don't know, that's a lot of picks Montreal giving up. We like Rossi, but not that much. Still have to pay him a ton of money.

Why?

Wild give up the best asset player in Rossi and get some sloppy 2nds ... or 3rds Makes no sense for them

Habs get Rossi but at what cost? a 1st, 2 early 2nds and a third and alex Newhook who is probably the second best player in this trade.
If Lysell or Pelosi were any good as young prospects Bruins would not include them. Lysell is a former 1st rounder from 2021 who has 3 AHL seasons where he has topped out at 15 goals. Habs have a bunch of better similarly aged prospects, Heineman age 23 10G in NHL, Kapannen age 21, Roy 20 Ahl goals age 21, davidson 24G AHL scorer age 22, Xhekaj (the other one) 24G as rookie in AHL age 20. Beck 15G 44 pts as a rookie in AHL age 21, Farrel 20G in Ahl age 23. Habs have a ton of 20-23 yr olds better than Lysell- no need for him at all.

Mtl needs an established no 2 centre and has plenty of assets to find one. Rossi fits bill but he is small on a team with some already small forwards. If they did target Rossi then just deal with Wild directly. There are way better assets going to boston in this proposed 3 way trade from mtl than Wild are getting for giving up both Rossi and hartman

LOL what a ridiculous proposal for wild. Trading Rossi then somehow will add Hartman who has 15 team NTC for a lesser player in Casey Middleton, a bunch of nothing picks wild wouldn't want and crappy 4th liner? Oh, how can wild say No? Oh yeah NO

Are you really a bruins fan Habs do this so quickly even if Rossi is a midget.

You’re right, Minnesota needs a better return besides just Mitts and picks and is the loser here.

Newhook got moved for cap reasons, as they might not be able to afford Rossi alone. Montreal gets their 2c and cheap prospects, they still have good picks left. Rossi is valuable but his image is clearly dinged after how the team demoted him like that.

Even if you assume Montreal goes for an undersized C (which based on management comments is quite a stretch) Montreal's not moving Newhook for cap reasons, they'd move Price's contract (or put him on LTIR). Montreal doesn't need cheap prospects, they've been rebuilding since 2022 and retooling since 2018, they've got cheap prospects.

You're wrong. Rossi's value isn't dinged because he played on 4th line in his 1ever playoff. You're just saying this to try to argue that what you offered is good. Demands means price goes up and a lot of teams want him. So again, offer something serious.

How much you paying Rossi? With Prices LTIR space habs have over 20 m in space with only a couple cheap RFAs unsigned (struble, heineman,Dobes) and maybe another kid or 2 from Laval on ELC

So the Habs would get a diminutive unsigned Centre, a small Winger prospect, a 3rd Round nobody and a late 2nd for Newhook, a 1st, two mid 2nds and a 3rd? Yeah, naah.

Mpntreal could get better just using those assets since neither Lysell nor Pelosi are anything at all. Especially since Gorton specifically said we'd be looking for size. Criminy Rossi makes Newhook look big.

1. As a Habs fan i immediately went sure sounds great so it's probably bad for Minnesota.

Won't speak for MIN but it ain't too hot for MTL either.

No. No. No. Management wants us to get bigger and half the Habs fandom wants to grab one of the smallest players in the entire league and even give up serious assets for him. That's just crazy talk.

On paper it's not bad for Montreal , but Lysell is redundant and not sure Rossi is the guy we want to pay 1st + 2x2nd for. Might as well throw in another 1st and get a center that fits better...

Newhook is nothing and if there's a trade i imagine he gets sent back.

No one is touching Price's contract until the bonus is paid, or the Habs pay a lot for a team to take that.

I disagree in that Minny has hurt Rossi's value at least a bit here, hard to say otherwise.

That being said the OP is even further out to lunch with this trade proposal as it makes zero sense for Minny.

Boston also does quite well here but this transaction is never happening.
