GDT: Montreal Canadiens vs Toronto Maple Leafs (7PM EST)

I feel like you should not insult me. I just voice my opinions on the game I saw.

All the messages about the patience and the plan, I know all of that.

I felt like Slafkovsky played a bad game tonight and I would have liked to see some flashes.

Hiding a bad performance under the rug because those are not important games is still hiding them.

In any case, completely objectively, he didn't play a worse game than the two other champs on his line. You need to give the guy some leeway here because he is certainly not at a point where he can change the dynamic of his line when the 2 vets on it are not playing well.

I don't think he's a A+ prospect that others do, Sakic doesn't just give those away for a Leks lol. Leks was awesome for the avs, proved what he could do on a good team, not the dog crap he had to endure here. I feel bad our new prospects will have hardly any talent to play with either. If you are not on the first line in Montreal this year, or the 1PP, its going to be a long year of brutal point production.
Barron will possibly need a full season, maybe two in Laval.

Man, Armia was pure caca tonight. I can’t stand the guy.

Where’s Canucklover to defend him!

He actually looked better than the other two, lol.

All in all he was a top 6 forward on the squad, which is fine.

AHL is going to do him good, RHP, Mysak and Mesar are good candidates to form a line with him. Hes gonna do great there IMO. He might even need a few months next year too.

I do wonder about the CHL option though, it has to be tough going back a level, but thats where he would have the best physical growth IMO.

A lot of Louis from Mercier in this forum.

Why, because my opinion was different from your opinion ?

I’m just stating the element of his game that for me could be seen as red flags for the future.

I did not know that there was a rule where in a hockey forum named hockeyfuture we could not discuss the flaws we see in a young prospect without being compared to some radio caller.

I actually thought it was the point of a forum to discuss that. If you do not think I’m right. Why can’t you debate with me for why I’m wrong instead of calling me name.

I think you are right that his teammates did not help him much.

I did feel like Pitlick tried ( more in the 1st ) but you can see center is not his best position.

Those were sadly still the more NHL player we had in the line up tonight. Maybe we will get more from Slaf when he plays with actual good NHL players.

I think he may be too big and powerful to play in the OHL. I fear he may develop some even worse habits than he already has because he would have way too much time and space. He needs to be taught how to properly play the game and process it at fast speeds. I think the AHL is a perfect spot for him right now. He can still work with our development coaches nearby and be put in a favourable position on the team. I’m really not worried about him, he clearly needs a good amount of coaching and reps on NA ice.

you are good to go, just vent all the time like I do, it may take 20 years but they grow to put up with you.

Duro, it’s funny how your opinion has become more nuanced since @MarkovsKnee commented. Coincidence? I think not! Si le chapeau te fait, tu le portes!

Feel like he's just too physically strong for CHL. Don't think there's any doubt he'd dominate. I think his issue is catching up to the speed and AHL would be a good place to get used to it at an incremental rate.

Yeah I agree with this.

My only concern is that AHL is a lot of travel, very little time to actually get stronger, faster and better. Recovery, training, etc. Its all very crucial for him.

Liiga is the best of options, but I understand it is not happening.

Lmao, cant wait for 2031 then.

My opinion is not more nuanced. I really did not like Slaf’s game tonight and feel like he look really far to be ready for NHL right now.

I do like to debate and will aknowledge the points where I may be wrong pretty easily. I actually come here to see opinions that are different to try and look at all the side of the games.

After a game vs a legit contender, all ours prospects are put back in their place. from overhyped to patience

Haha it does feel like some of the shine wore off when we had to face other teams not just our own.

Part of the benefit of sending Slaf to Laval if that's the route they choose it that there will be lots of talk, then it will quiet down some and people's expectations will be lowered.

We'll see, he's got plenty of camp left to take a spot.

I wouldn’t mind him staying in Europe, but definitely not back on TPS. What the hell were they even teaching him? Some of his totally wrong play selections and off-puck reads/positioning are stuff that they teach in peewee. Either TPS were totally uninterested in attempting to develop him because they knew they were losing him this year or they were trying to teach him and he couldn’t/wouldn’t grasp it. Both are a bit worrying for me. I think it’s time to see if this Adam Nicholas guy is worth his salt or if he’s just another snake oil salesman.

I'll be patient with him. He might be a 1OA but he likely needs a couple of years first. Ideally one year in Liiga and then one in the A. If he can dominate both then he ll be nhl ready

You know we played a half Marlies roster though, right?
Still much better than anything we faced and ahead of all our rookies in terms of pro readiness by miles

I hope they send our best prospects down to Laval this year and keep all the mediocre vets and scrubs on the main team. I'd rather see them thrive in a winning environment than be a part of that mess we'll have going on here cause it'll be ugly. Easily on par with last year.
Bro our regular season team will look a lot different than tonight I can promise you. This is just preseason

My conclusion from this game is the same from last game, slaf needs to work on his cardio. He was burned at the end of last game and did not look fully recovered tonight. The man is 240 pounds, it takes a lot of oxygen to haul that much mass at that speed.
