But you can hardball Markov for a million or so. Markov was even willing to have a one-year deal. Double standard Bergevin at its finest. Never mind the first Subban negotiations....

I know right. So what if Markov wanted even more than he did, say 7 million, who cares? We have over 8 mill in unused cap space this year anyway! Don't see the point of walking from him.

Maybe a little wrong Marc?

“The best minds in hockey,” Bergevin said about the Canadian coaching staff, led by Mike Babcock. “They have all kinds of players there on defence, but it’s Shea Weber against (Alex) Ovechkin, against Patrick Kane … he’s the guy. So that makes me feel like you know what? What we saw, it’s what they see, too. And these guys are among the best. So are we all wrong here?”

Yes. Yes they are.

Meh, if Subban was here... we'd still ****ing suck.

The problem runs a lot deeper than Weber. Or even Lazaretty.

the whole team sucks. the real problem is that we dont have a 1C. We had one but hes too bad defensively at C... so instead we have him sucking at W and we have Danault suck offensively at C.

Blow it up.

also we are a very very small team

its not that much of a big deal but its starting to affect us vs a team like the ducks

Starting? Its been years now. Team was not built to compete. Key players were not kept. The results are being shown in full display on the ice right now.

"It's on me" - Marc Bergevin.

No need for anyone to eat their words. I'd never criticize anyone for being optimistic about their team. It's much better than relentless negativity.

Optimistically hoping against all logic describes about 80% of hockey fans. Their team won't win the Cup, so why bother watching? Hope & optimism.

Seriously this nonsense has to stop. I am all for positivism and optimism. I watched the Habs play the caps in the playoffs when they had no chance. I watched the Habs play the pens when they had no chance. They won those series. I never once said "im not going to watch, the Habs don't stand a chance".

Today we are confronted with a whole different monster. This isn't the underdog problem, this is the poorly built team that is finally getting exploited for the bad team they are. No longer can the blame be placed else where. This is the team MB built and it's rotten to the core. How can one be optimistic about this situation when I have been saying this for 3 years. While you (not you, but those who do) cling to your division wins and playoff berth, I aspired for greater things from a team that went to the ECF in 2014. The team then had room to improve. The team now has to make far too many changes to be competitive.

Why be blindly optimistic. The Habs have absolutely nothing to be optimistic about.

Why not try Galchenyuk between Pacioretty and Drouin?

Because Bergevin went on record saying that Galchenyuk will be a winger from now on, and would rather take a high dive from a sky scraper before risking getting made to look bad by Galchenyuk succeeding as a center.

Drouin will be baby fed those top line minutes and the center ice position until the end of time before Chucky sees another second at center under MB's reign.

Wow...Weber is so much a passenger.....Mete gets hit....Weber doesn't care. What a leader and a winner.

Where's this Weber MB?

When asked about the intimidation factor with the 6-foot-4, 236-pound Weber, Bergevin said: “I don’t think intimidation is what it used to be in the ’80s. It’s different now. It’s just having a presence, having a guy that makes you pay the price. So if you’re going to go to the net, you’re going to pay a price, and a lot of guys don’t like to pay a price.”

Why did Bergevin tear the team apart? He had a playoff contender and then he just completely tears away the team identity. He should be fired ASAP. Habs need a direction and identity.

We need what like 12 straight wins to get back in playoffs position?

We might actually lose the season in October.

First, they need to get back to .500 a.s.a.p. Then they can build on that. Other teams will struggle too during the season.
