The Montreal Canadiens have been in win now more for several seasons. With that challenge constantly in their minds, the prospect pool is the tool used to increase their chances by acquiring top end talent. Traded are the likes of Alexander Holtz, Joakim Kemmel, Filip Bystedt, Thomas Harley, Tyson Forester, Peyton Krebs, Bryce McConnel Barker, Michael Buchinger, along with many draft choices to bolster the line up. The prospects in the top 20 are a collection of later picks not at the top end of the draft that the Canadiens hope will develop over time.

1 - Liam Greentree (2024 – 22nd Overall)
Right Wing -- shoots L
Born Jan 1 2006 -- Oshawa, ONT
[18 yrs. ago]
Height 6.03 -- Weight 211 [191 cm/96 kg

Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - June 11th: "He leans goal scorer/shooter more than natural playmaker overall. He complements smaller, more darting linemates. Greentree is difficult to defend in the trenches. His size, strength, and skill allow him to extend plays that generally lead to offence."

2 - Cole Hutson (2024 – 31st Overall)
Defense -- shoots L
Born Jun 28 2006 -- Barrington, IL
[18 yrs. ago]
Height 5.10 -- Weight 165 [178 cm/75 kg]

Chris Peters - Flo Hockey - June 3rd: "He competes, and has the will to defend. But he also has some remarkable playmaking capabilities and even showed a refined goal-scoring touch this season. Hutson gets into plays aggressively and more NHL teams are finding spots for players that play like him."

3- Corson Ceulemans (2021 – 33rd Overall)
Defense -- shoots R
Born May 5 2003 -- Regina, SASK
[21 yrs. ago]
Height 6.02 -- Weight 198 [188 cm/90 kg]

Nick Richard - Dobber Prospects - Mar. 8: "He is a powerful skater with good size and plays an aggressive offensive game, constantly pushing the pace for his team. Ceulemans often acts as a one-man breakout and his ability to carry the puck up ice stands out."

4 - Denver Barkey (2023 – 63rd Overall)
Right Wing -- shoots L
Born Apr 27 2005 -- Newmarket, ONT
[19 yrs. ago]
Height 5.09 -- Weight 154 [175 cm/70 kg]

Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - June 5th: "The London Knights forward is a highly skilled and hard-working center that understands the intricacies of connecting small plays all over the ice to ensure a positive final result. He’s an excellent passer and a sneaky good finisher. He could be the mid-round steal of the draft."

5 - Simon Robertsson (2021 – 32nd Overall)
Right Wing -- shoots L
Born Feb 5 2003 -- Pitea, Sweden
[21 yrs. ago]
Height 6.00 -- Weight 181 [183 cm/82 kg]

Steve Kournianos - The Draft Analyst - May 24th: "Robertsson is a physical winger with a world-class shot who probably needs another year or two in Sweden before he firmly grasps how deadly a sniper he can be. He’s strong at protecting the puck and will battle angilly for net-front positioning."

6 - Adam Kleber (2024 – 65th Overall)
Defense -- shoots R
Born Mar 24 2006 -- Chaska, MN
[18 yrs. ago]
Height 6.05 -- Weight 204 [196 cm/93 kg]

David Saad - Dobber Prospects - Apr. 20th: "Adam Kleber profiles as yet another one of the big, rangy defensemen in this year’s draft, but he comes with a lot of added benefits. He’s a good skater, has some very surprising small area handling skills, he’s a good breakout passer, remarkably accurate in the offensive zone, and good at defending the rush, and that’s just the start."

7 - John Mustard (2024 – 55th Overall)
Center -- shoots L
Born Aug 16 2006 -- Oradell, NJ
[17 yrs. ago]
Height 6.01 -- Weight 184 [185 cm/83 kg]

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - June 3: "He's a tremendous skater who uses his speed to get out in transition, turn defenders with the puck, get on pucks and win races. A Providence commit, he should fit well with the Friars’ staff and identity as a hardworking forward who gets after it."

8 - Tanner Howe (2024 – 78th Overall)
Left Wing -- shoots L
Born Nov 28 2005 -- Prince Albert, SASK
[18 yrs. ago]
Height 5.10 -- Weight 182 [178 cm/83 kg]

Luke Sweeney - Dobber Prospects - Apr. 20th: "Howe’s best—and most projectable—qualities are his abilities to play through contact as a smaller player, create offensive zone entries, play a possession game along the boards, and funnel to the net to bang in greasy goals. Howe’s showed flashes of dynamic playmaking and puckhandling upside, but even without these, Howe still projects as a dependable, tenacious middle-six winger with scoring upside."

9 - Simon Forsmark (2022 – 72nd Overall)
Defense -- shoots L
Born Oct 17 2003 -- Orebro, Sweden
[20 yrs. ago]
Height 6.01 -- Weight 194 [185 cm/88 kg]

Chris Peters - Daily Faceoff - June 10th: "He only had three assists in the pros but showed much more offensive prowess at the U20 level. He averaged better than a point per game there and showed a skill level that he just couldn’t at the pro level. He has good size and solid puck skills and defends extremely well."

10 - Paul Fischer (2023 – 138th Overall)
Defense -- shoots L
Born Jan 30 2005 -- River Forest, IL
[19 yrs. ago]
Height 6.00 -- Weight 195 [183 cm/88 kg]

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - May 30th: "Fischer is a solid two-way defenseman. His skating is NHL quality. He has smooth edges to evade pressure, can stay with faster forwards and close on his checks well. He's able to get up into attacks or skate pucks up ice well."

11 - Veeti Vaisanen (2024 – 109th Overall)
Defense -- shoots L
Born Feb 15 2006 -- Hamina, Finland
[18 yrs. ago]
Height 6.00 -- Weight 177 [183 cm/80 kg]

Anni Karvinen - Dobber Prospects - Apr. 20th: "Väisänen relies on his hockey sense as he positions himself proactively to shut down the opponent. He has a great mobility that has allowed him to beat opponents in races to 50/50 pucks."

12 - Aiden Fink (2023 – 119th Overall)
Right Wing -- shoots R
Born Nov 24 2004 -- Calgary, ALTA
[19 yrs. ago]
Height 5.10 -- Weight 153 [178 cm/69 kg]

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - May 30th: "Fink's skating and energy stand out when he's on the ice. He has excellent speed and quickness and often pushes the pace with his skating. He's a skilled forward who can beat defenders at full speed with his stickhandling."

13 - Jakub Dobes (2021 – 129th Overall)
Goalie -- shoots L
Born May 27 2001 -- Ostrava, Czech Rep.
[23 yrs. ago]
Height 6.05 -- Weight 197 [196 cm/89 kg]

Marc-Antoine Lévis – Habs eye on the prize – “One of the main things that will catch your eye with Dobeš is his size. At 6’4” and 201 pounds, he is a massive goaltender, and one who plays aggressively, challenging shooters way out of his crease. He skates well and is quick and nimble. Good instincts and an understanding of the right moments to use his size lets him present a stone wall to opponents. He also shows good tracking vision to make sure he’s staying square to the play.."

14 - Jakub Stancl (2023 – 157th Overall)
Left Wing -- shoots L
Born Apr 10 2005
[19 yrs. ago]
Height 6.02 -- Weight 192 [188 cm/87 kg]

Adam Kierszenblat – The Hockey Writers – A smart player, Stancl is great at facilitating breakouts from his own zone. He makes life easy for his defenders by staying close and understands when it is best to carry the puck over the blue line or make a pass to his wingers. Once he has the puck in the offensive zone, he is not afraid to shoot but also is good at scanning the ice to try and find open teammates. When he is in the offensive zone without the puck, he is always moving around, trying to find the open ice so his teammates can get him the puck in scoring positions. Overall, he understands where the holes in the opposing defence are and looks to exploit them every chance he can.

15 - Christian Humphreys (2024 – 128th Overall)
Center -- shoots R
Born Feb 4 2006 -- Pittsburgh, PA
[18 yrs. ago]
Height 5.11 -- Weight 170 [180 cm/77 kg]

Bill Placzek Line.com - “He has taken up the first line centre spot alongside for the USA National Development Team, while flying under the radar, while using his competition against older and tougher opponents to learn to improve his play away from the puck, adding better body positioning, stick placement, and play without the puck. Usually offensive production drops off, but despite his size, he has excelled as an offensive threat using his read and react abilities and quickness to transition from defense to offense. Has a quick release and good velocity on his snap shot, but unfortunately very few of them occur in the high scoring areas in front of the net, and seems a little tentative to venture there. Has a high hockey IQ and anticipates extremely well. He is an effortless skater who always Hasan extra gear when it’s needed and uses speed and excellent edges to create transition opportunities. Plays a solid 200 foot game and does a good job of getting inside position on his man on the back check. He struggles in the face-off circle, but that should be improving along with his ability to win board battles as continues to build size and strength.”

16 - Ludwig Persson (2022 – 91st Overall)
Left Wing -- shoots L
Born Oct 8 2003 -- Gothenburg, Sweden
[20 yrs. ago]
Height 6.00 -- Weight 182 [183 cm/83 kg]

Alexa Potack - Dobber Prospects - June 18th: "Speed is Ludwig Persson’s best asset. With a quick first step and acceleration, he outskates opponents, whether over a short or long distance. In the offensive zone, Persson is a very hard worker. He shoots the puck a lot, which is where he reels in his high points totals."

17 - Alex Jeffries (2021 – 126th Overall)
Left Wing -- shoots R
Born Nov 8 2001 -- Lunenburg, MA
[22 yrs. ago]
Height 6.00 -- Weight 195 [183 cm/88 kg]

Michael Ostrower - The Hockey Writers- June 18th: " Jefferies’ main strength is his professional play style. While he is strong defensively, his offensive game is well-rounded, with his vision and passing leading his offensive game. He makes great reads and seems to have eyes on the back of his head. He knows where his teammates are, and finds ways to get the puck close to the net. This has been especially prevalent during his time in Bridgeport, where he has continuously made great reads but the puck jumps a player’s stick or a shot is missed.

18 - Saige Weinstien (2023 – 207th Overall)
Defense -- shoots L
Born May 30 2005 -- Edmonton, ALTA
[19 yrs. ago]
Height 6.01 -- Weight 183 [185 cm/83 kg]

Adam Kierszenblat- The Hockey Writers May 2nd: “The transition game is another area of strength for Weinstein, thanks to his strong skating. He is able to carry the puck through the neutral zone and break into the offensive zone either by carrying or dumping the puck in for the forwards to chase. A prospect who always has his head up and is scanning the ice, he is very careful when the puck is on his stick, ensuring he doesn’t allow a bad turnover that could create a chance going the other way.”

19 - Jeremy Hanzel (2021 – 209th Overall)
Defense -- shoots L
Born Feb 27 2003 -- Coquitlam, BC
[21 yrs. ago]
Height 6.01 -- Weight 200 [185 cm/91 kg]

Matthew Maratea - Preds lines – March 22: " Hanzel has typical NHL size at 6’ 1”, 196 pounds which will allow him to compete with the majority of the players on the ice. However, it is his skating ability and his on-ice vision that has allowed him to become one of the highest-scoring defensemen in the WHL.

20 - Jakub Kos (2021 – 220th Overall)
Left Wing -- shoots L
Born May 30 2003 -- Brno, Czech Rep.
[21 yrs. ago]
Height 6.02 -- Weight 187 [188 cm/85 kg]

Marek Novotny - EP Rinkside- June 2nd: " The return to Czechia has served Jakub Kos well. The Panthers draft pick has a nice blend of physical tools with size, speed, and skill to spare, and it's made him a force on the forecheck and a productive player since joining Kometa Brno. He's also been a great connector between defence and offence for his line, able to carry the puck through the neutral zone and generate entries with ease. If he can continue his progress in the Extraliga, that'll be a good sign for his NHL prospects.
