I'll never understand the HuGo haters, they did such a great job and this is only the beginning. They are the best thing to happen to this this in a loooooooong time.

It would be nice to hire a medical specialist for knee injuries full time to work with Laine, Dach and Reinbacher.
Also, hoping that the Habs goalie coach gets canned in the offseason and they promote the Laval one. Get another goalie coach who's a great communicator to work with Fowler in the AHL and keep him in constant communication with the Habs goalie coach so they're on the same wavelength.

Goalies in Laval seem to be more confident and he did a great job with Primeau this season
Marco Marciano has been at it a long time - he definitely deserves a shot.

This summer will be the 1st real test for HuGo. He's been mostly good but the pro scouting is a mixed bag. I'll give him a pass on Dach since he was good before the injuries, but Newhook sucks. Carrier is great but giving away Kovacevic for nothing was bad. My Grandmother could make this team worse and get a top 5 pick, making it into a cup contender is another story.
This offseason will be crucial for the future of this team. He desperately needs to completely revamp the defence like UTAH did this past offseason. He also needs to find a way to get a 2C.

I think you overlook a lot what happen behind the scene. Hughes was given very poor cards in term of cap management when he arrived. We still have horrible contracts as of today that are relic from our previous management.
Newhook, Matheson, Carrier are part of the reason we can believe making the playoff this year. This offseason should not be that 'important'. The most damagable thing he can do is trying to speed up the rebuilding process and acquire bad contracts in return of good assets or top prospect, just like we did with Dvorak & Andersson. The hardest part is staying patient, not overpay and continue developing the younger players without handcuffing yourself. Obviously if he can find a 2nd line center for little asset that would be good but I would not be that mad if we regress a bit next season or not do that much we are trying to build a contender not just being a mid team.

One offseason where you don't get any big names is never crucial for the future. For example if we don't get a 2C this offseason but get a stud next offseason it will make little to no difference to the future of the team that they were acquired this summer vs next summer.
That said you are right that the easy part of a rebuild is trading vets for picks and picking high, the hard part is always the actual building part of the rebuild. Personally I'm happy with how Hughes has approached things, even the moves that haven't worked out made logical sense in building towards contender.
