Habs fan here, for me it all depends how you see both players an what the rationale is : for Comtois, is he a second liner in the making experiencing a bad season or was last season a fluke ? For Armia, is he a 30 point third liner who is good at Pk and keeping the puck (and this year is only the exception) or is he an ageing fourth liner ? I think given the flat cap many fans will tend to see Armia as the overpaid fourth liner and I am fine keeping him in MTL anyway but just wanted to say that for me, it really is a question of perception of whether this year or last year should be the basis of evaluation…

but I get why ANA fans would not do it because you don t want to look like a fool if he blossoms in MTL and you only get a 3rd liner for him.

why does Anaheim does this?

You could have add at least a pick to acknowledge that Comtois is worth more.

Even with a pick Anaheim would decline.

Do you guys still have this years 1st? I could maybe see it if that was included (unprotected). As bad as the Habs are this year that could turn out to be a 'really' good draft position.

And even that may not do it as the Ducks are 1-2 years from really being able to compete again (hopefully). Depending on who the pick is, it could be beyond that before he's ready for the NHL.

Otherwise Pat's saying "Hey, thanks for calling me up to congratulate me on my new job and give me a chance for my first trade. But do you really think I'm 'that' dumb...?"

Comtois had broken bones in his right hand, requiring surgery this year in November. He missed over a month. That takes time to recover from, and get your touch back. I would expect Comtois to get back to the player he was last year, next year. This season is a write off for him.

Of course, I was being highly sarcastic and mirroring the original post. The point is that teams generally don't trade young/cheap players for third/fourth liners who are overpaid. At this point, that is a description of Silverberg and probably Grant.

What use does a rebuilding team have for a third/fourth liner who is turning 29 in a few months, with a back loaded contract that is too high and has too much term? Even if Comtois ends up being a complete bust (which he won't be), I'd rather have him and the cap space than Armia.

None I was merely speaking about value. :)
