Idk, those games didn't seem meaningless watching them, the players didn't act like they were meaningless.

They were incredible hockey. Clearly it meant a ton to the players and their effort showed that. Brady and Sandy being in that environment will be more important in the long run than if they play tonight or not.

Wouldn’t have minded Brady sitting out if we weren’t on the heels of 3 straight regulation losses and on the bubble of missing the playoffs. All this talk of ‘if you told us we’d be in a playoff spot by the 4 nations break, we’d take it’ screams a lot of ‘we’re just happy to be here l’ energy.

These guys need to not sit on their laurels and realize the urgency behind this stretch to really separate themselves. This is effectively a must win, so disappointed to not have our best players available.

This 100%.

People forget how precarious our position is and that we're coming off a very bad stretch of games. We can't afford to just give guys a break when there are already key injuries. A big loss tonight makes it very hard to gain momentum going forward considering just the one game over the next week, and that game being against the top team in the league. Tonight is crucial.

Is that what he did? He played 2 mins against Sweden and couldn't finish the game, he didn't decide it was better not to make the injury worse, he wasn't able to play, just like he's not playing tonight.

By Wednesday we could have everyone back, a little early to be written it off.

It seems to me like there's an assumption that he's chosing not to play when he could play. Idk if that's a fair assumption, we don't know why he's a game time decision, could be the flu that was going around the tournament, or it could be an injury unrelated to the one that kept him out of the one practice. It sucks that guys got injured in the tournament, that's one reason I didn't like the idea of this tournament being held in Feb, but injuries are part of the game, any time you play you can get hurt. Had he not played against Canada, we might still have seen him unavailable tonight.
You misunderstand - I don't like that he chose to play hurt against Canada in lieu of taking time to get heal ahead of tonight. It's just as much of an assumption that he has the flu which has never been brought up about why he wouldn't be playing.

As for Matthew, he played a bit against Canada, and made the decision to not play the rest of the game to not make an injury worse. Very simple.

Winnipeg is an objectively better team than we are. Our 5v5 offense was myopic before the break. I don't think it's a stretch to feel that game is gonna be real tough for us to win.

If he didn't play against Canada, and doesn't tonight, that is waaaaaaaaaaaay easier to stomach. It would be easier to stomach if we'd have won 1 or 2 of the last 3 games before the break. But the reality is that he got hurt against Sweden, played hurt against Canada, hasn't practiced with the team since coming back, and is unlikely to play tonight. I don't think it's a stretch to assume that's because he's injured.

So for offence we need to rely on Stutzle and a Batherson who can’t find out where the net is. Fantastic.
Honestly, I just hope that the break allowed Timmy to heal his wrist.

The way the dude was passing up shots, and completely missing his spots when he did shoot made it look like his wrist was f***ed again.

A fully healthy Timmy helps more than anything in terms of our ability to push for the playoffs.

Where did I say it was meaningless to the players?

Obviously they cared about it, but ultimately they're getting paid to play with their NHL teams. If Ottawa misses the playoffs by just a few points, people will rightfully point to a game like tonight's and ask why Brady couldn't suck it up and show up for y'know, his actual employer. The experience of playing in the 4N environment will be useless if they don't make the playoffs altogether.

I wish I could like the hell out of this post.

We're going to be in tough with such a depleted line-up, Could get real ugly in a hurry with all the Habs fans in attendance. Eeking out one point out of this game would be fine with me but eff it. It's go for 2! Ullmark will have to stand on his head.

As annoyed as I am about the injuries and exhibition games and all that, the Habs have a shit team and if we can't beat them then it's our own fault.

I agree, why not 2! :)

Weak sauce from Brady. From management down, there doesn’t seem to be much urgency.

And if Sanderson can’t go that’s ridiculous. Guy plays 2 games in 2 weeks and needs rest.

I guess they’ve adopted Andlauer’s “I just got here” mindset. The last 7 years don’t matter.

I understand people are pissed about the Tkachuk situation. He plays a physical game, his body is going to be banged up, but during his tenure as a Senator. How many games has he missed for injury or another reason? I think it's only 2 or 3.

I hope we're not questioning his loyalty or anything like that. Yeah it sucks that he's missing a game while we're in the thick of a playoff race and against the Habs for that matter but we need to relax. If he misses the next game then maybe we can be concerned.

The guy was going balls to the wall on Thursday. Didn’t miss a shift. Gets back to Ottawa with the team having lost 3 straight, without 2 top 6 forwards and clinging to a playoff spot. Nah can’t play.

Meanwhile his dad is on podcasts talking about how management has to do more to help him.

If there hadn't been a good number of games this season where he seemed to take the night off, I might be a little more lenient, but seeing how he put his body on the line in the 4N, it's hard not to be bitter about him sitting out in such an important game against our divisional rival at home.

Flashscore says Sanderson and Tkachuk are playing

The pre-game show said Sanderson would be good to go but no Tkachuk so not sure why that site is saying otherwise.

Most surprising in all this is Matinpalo instead of Hamonic!
