Montour scores goal 4 seconds into OT

Good setup play by Seattle, horrible recovery by MTL.

You can see Montour cheating before the faceoff is won and even if Montreal wins the faceoff it's going straight to Montour.

They baited Montreal nicely with that setup for the faceoff where no one is back and Montreal decided to match them and it cost them the game. If you're going to setup like that you basically have to shoot the puck forward, winning the faceoff backwards is a disadvantage for your team. Unfortunately Suzuki/Dvorak/Hutson didn't have the hockey IQ to see it.

Absolutely donkey-brained from MSL, Hutson is great but he's not an explosive skater and will get beat to open space like that, especially against a skater like Montour. On the other side you have Suzuki who, again, great, but not an explosive skater.

All risk no reward.

Also, if you're lining up like that you do not want to win the faceoff backwards. Your team has to skate backwards or turn around while the other team goes forward.

I don't think any Habs player (or the coach) even thought about what would happen after the faceoff there. You'd think someone would say hey if we win this faceoff who is getting the puck?

It's an inexplicable, inexcusable decision in a must-win game you're already in the process of blowing

Does anyone have the exact time because that didn't even feel like four seconds to me.

Yeah, the second clock moves onto 1 right after the faceoff even though it's supposed to move onto 1 after one second.

It had just turned to 4:56 but had the second clock not been moved to 1 prematurely, it should have been scored while still at 4:57.

Why would Montreal lineup three across like that in 3v3 OT?

Losing the face off, or winning it, Seattle was set.

But its also kinda crazy both sides lined up with 3 right on the line.

Not like the faceoff couldn't go the opposite way...

Not sure I've ever seen both teams lineup with everyone on the line to start 3v3 before.

Beautiful.

Coronato did it to the Canadiens early in the year as well right off the face off, but more like 8-9 seconds.

I tried to go back and watch the stream but for some reason im blacked out.

Are we sure it wasn't Seattle who lined up like that first and MTL matched it? Winning the opening puck possession is huge so if the Dman lines up on a vacant wing, I'd imagine a lot of teams would match it to prevent the other team from recovering the puck off a scrambled draw.

It certainly doesn't look like the SEA centerman is going forward with it (i.e set play), just looks like great anticipation and guessing from Montour. Also a borderline false start by him, linesmen might have stopped the drop if he saw it. Since it was behind his back he didn't see it and not quite eggregious enough for other official to stop it.
