Cassidy was not getting fired until the players complained directly to management. Then 180 regular season games later they quit on the nice guy coach,

Thats some culture.
This is true but Sweeney and Cassidy deserved to be fired a few times over the final few seasons. The Hall trade saved them one season in one especially dreary season and was it the following season when Debrusk was promoted to the Bergeron line midway through another dreary season?

Cassidy is a good coach with the right team but is another one where he is less effective after a few seasons. Less extreme than a Tortorella of course.

Sacco's been with the organization longer than Sweeney's been GM.

How many players on the current club played for Cassidy? 4? 5?

Zadorov and Lindholm both said they signed here for the "culture" and they suck. Then they see the goalie hold out until the deadline and their new coach fired after 20 games.

Julien gone because they didn't want to win 1-0. Bruce gone because he was mean and players got him canned. The same "culture" just either apparently quit on their coach or are too butt hurt to play well because they are mad at their goalie for getting what he felt he deserved, so much for "it's a business".

The team lived off Bergeron and Krejci from the O'Connell era, then Gorton/Chia signed Chara and Savard and traded for Rask all while drafting Lucic, Kessel and Marchand. Chia made some FANTASTIC trades for Horton, Boychuk, Seidenberg, Peverley, Kelly, Ference, McQuaid, Campbell and Paille. Great UFA signings like Ryder and Thornton...Then the "culture" pushed out guys like Kessel then Seguin, then Hamilton, then Smith, getting worse and worse with every trade.
Great post

Monty is gone now, so they can turn back into goal scorers, elite deemen and vezina goalies. They own it, so they better live up to the Monty mutiny. Why the rest of the coaching staff is still employed is baffling.

Time for the leadership to rise up and lead by example. If not its on them and clean house. The only saving grace is that the Atlantic division is bad.

Not shortsighted. Cassidy have a massive number of flaws and his time had expired.

Issue is Sweeney caved and went too far in the player friendly coach model.
I'm not seeing a "massive" number of flaws with Bruce Cassidy. Give me a break.

I’m serious when I say the entire coaching staff should be fired. I’m not happy with just Monty.
Yep. Jay Leach has made zero impact. Teams we're beating down the door for Joe Sacco either.

Here's my two cents (for what its worth!)............

We all know something had to give. Like others have said time and time again you cannot fire 20 players. I don't think this roster jives with Monty's game plan on the ice vs what he had the last two years. The last two years he got as much as he could out of them, this year the gig is up. The PK and PP issues he has to own (which his associate coaches who should also have been shown the door, but you're not going to can the lot during the season, they will all be gone in the summer). He didn't have the positivity he had the last two years behind the bench from what I could see from far away on TV and I think he knew he was done 5 games into the season.

I will also say that he has had his off ice issues and I have great respect for him for overcoming them. Addictions are never easy to deal with as anyone can tell, also to deal with them and be an NHL coach in a pressure cooker place like Boston couldn't have been easy. But Monty to his credit continued on to deal with it day by day. That takes some character and then some. This is why he will bounce back somewhere else.

Lastly in the offseason when they signed those two FA's I was still thinking who is going to score goals for this team? Neely and Sweeney said they wanted to be tougher to play against and get faster. Was that just a year end spin? Surely they both didn't think this roster was going to do that? Now they say they want a power forward. OK. Why didn't they take care of that in the off season? From Swayman being greedy to those two FA signings to the first 20 games, this has been deflating for sure. But.........they will win the next three games. Just watch. Don Cherry used to always say this: the players don't want to make it look like its them and not the coach who was just fired, so they really go at it. But.........if Sacco is the answer or better than Monty why hasn't he been a head coach anywhere else recently or been in the running? They need need blood in this organization. Just like when it was Julien and Chia. They got us a Cup and changed the culture to a winner. That's the marker. Which means the Jacobs need to say bye bye to Cam and Donny and there is no way that is going to happen.

I’d like to think this is a positive first step in turning this team around but I feel like they haven’t really bottomed out yet.

I hope it’s not the case. Just have a feeling there still that wtf trade that needs to happen. The Pastrnak for Knies and 3 never heard of’s deal that really sinks them to new depths.
