He probably should have done better, but do the draft position for these guys. I would like to see a comparison with another franchise that has been at or around Boston's level over the same time period. Tampa Bay maybe?

I’m sure there’s multiple teams with an individual 2nd round picks who have more points than the entire group.

Yeah I meant success levels which translates generally into late round picks. I am not arguing that Sweeney's drafting has been great by an means, though I think he's done okay, but am curious about another comparable team that has been consistently in the top third of the league in the standings over Sweeney's tenure and has had the same general draft position.

So sure they have a lot of picks in the early to mid 20s but it’s not like they are going on deep playoff runs making them have very late picks.

Don't misunderstand me, I am not pumping Sweeney's tires here. I think the team should have done better in the PO's and I think some of his draft choices have been stupid. That said, back half of every draft since 2015, and the trading away of picks for immediate help (separate discussion there) has to be factored in. That's why I am curious about comparable franchises. I might look it up myself, but really not sure I want to take the time to do it

I would also add that it hasn’t helped that the bruins traded away 4 first round picks and 3 2nd round picks and all they have to show for it is Hampus lindholm.

It's not often you see a head coach get fired and within a week have a new job. Somehow though the last two Bruins coaches fired by Sweeney & Neely did just that.

Cassidy somehow reunites with them and the Triforce grants Monty any wish his heart desires.

He put together a team with 135 points and an abject failure to ACQUIRE top offensive producing scoring threats

The worst offense in the league this season he's responsible for (Bruins now in 32nd place). He had a hand in the 31st worst offense in Chicago consider half their forwards are former Sweeney acquisitions. A feat like that is hard to accomplish.

And No.2 finally cracked 100 pts. last week, 8 years after his draft year and 7 months from being a UFA.

This has to be the worst drafting of forwards over the same time period across the league.

If anything defines Sweeney's time as GM, it's his abject failure to acquire top offensive producing forwards/primary scoring threats. Whether it's via the draft, trade, free agency, he's failed to do the above through any of those channels.

I believe Sullivan and Ftorek missed the playoffs, which is a big no no for this organization. Milbury, I can’t recall why he was fired exactly. Something to do with being a prick I’m sure.

Milbury wasn't fired. He went into the front office, then left to take the head coach job at Boston College, but before even coaching a game there he butted heads with the AD and then walked out to take the Islanders job.

Makes my wonder if he Bruins should check monty's phone to see if he was talking to them while being under contract.

This appears to be a bit too convenient. I'd love to see phone records between Monty and STL.
Guess I'm late to the party, others have questioned the exact same thing.

Two things crystal clear to me

1. Sweeney was very fond of Monty. The choke of the century was clearly on the players, so hopefully we can put that to rest

2. Monty clearly brokered his way out of town. He clearly had the Blue job in mind for 2025-26 latest and did whatever he coulo to get their sooner. His odd behavior and 180 degree turn from how he coached and how he treated players was evident. From the bottom of my heart, an open apology to the the players, I was wrong, you did not quit on him, he quit on you.

Good riddance man, weak sauce from him and you would have thought since the Bruins took a chance on him and made him relevant again he wouldn't have sold out his credibility like that and coached hard.

The timing does make me wonder how much of this was already in the works and would also help explain why Monty allegedly set a high re-signing number in discussions with the Bs

It was clearly time for a change behind the bench and the St Louis move suggests both parties - and not just the Bs- were in agreement

How do you feel about a guy who quit on his team to get to a better situation for him walking into your locker room? How is Jake Neighbours gonna feel when Monty tells him lay it all on the line for your team when he just sucked to get himself fired.?
