It has been reported that Swayman's ask was unreasonably high and $10 million is not far fetched. Swayman started the pissing match in the media and the Bruins finally had enough of the BS and called him out on it.

People want to shit all over the Bruins when it comes to contracts but the way Swayman handled everything was immature and unprofessional.

I agree but partly blame his agent.

I think there’s a lot of blame to go around beyond the coach, and I can’t imagine Swayman placing himself above the culture Chara and Bergeron built not having had an impact on this team.

The roster has tuned out the coach, and most likely the staff as well....so let's promote the guy who's been on the staff for 10 freaking years.

Probably to give them time to find the right coach under better circumstances.

Firing Montgomery today is about stopping the bleeding. Hiring Sacco is about not making your next long term choice under duress.

I have no idea if they will make a great choice of next head coach when the time for that comes. Picking Sacco today, to me, is nothing more than they need a coach for the next game.

You had to know if they fired Monty, that they would promote Sacco or Leach on the interim. I think they see how it goes for a bit. They need a new coaching staff IMHO. Dom has mentioned on a few podcast his pick would be Dale Hunter, I would love that guy to be the Bruins head coach. You have to think now that Sweeney is the next one on the hot seat, he has built this roster, so that is on him. They need to make some trades to salvage the season, if they are too far out at the TDL, then sell and start the rebuild.

How bad did this brass f*** up the Ullmark thing? Maybe they should have talked with Swayman for the 18 months leading up to this deal? Maybe say, Hmmm that arbitration wasn't great, maybe it will be hard to negotiate next year as well? maybe we should lock him up or at least start talking Jan 1? Maybe Swayman is more receptive to a 3 year 6.5 mil bridge before he is the #1 and has that fantastic play-offs? How about being proactive? Ringling Bros.

Listen, this isn't my theory, I'm just passing along what I heard on the radio while waiting for my son to finish skating.

One theory is that both of those guys signed bridge deals and didn't ask for their big money until after they were established as top performers at their position. Second, they didn't try to set a new standard. Panarin was and still is making more than Pasta, and a slew of D signed for $9.5 at the same time as McAvoy. So there is a school of thought that says Swayman was entitled to demand that money before he earned it.

Felger wasn't really on board with all that. He said players generally don't begrudge players getting paid, but the way Swayman went about it publicly rubbed guys the wrong way and he cited Marchand's comments on it at the time.

Fwiw, I think management could have talked to Swayman 10 years before the contract was up and it wouldn't have made a difference. They were going to take this to the end of camp, make it public and squeeze every nickel no matter when it started. If the Bruins offered $8.25 in July, we'd have a $9.5m goalie signed in October. (That last part is my opinion.)

Another question for ya'll to consider; we're all complaining about a perceived underperformance which had me thinking for a second. How much of what we're seeing now is actually the result of a lot of guys overachieving last year and are now coming back down to earth because of Monty putting them in a position to succeed rather than them suddenly being bad?

Maybe this team was never all that good to begin with and coaching was doing way more heavy lifting than any of us knew?

I don't buy this theory because it's not like we're saying Coyle is struggling because he's on pace for 50 points instead of 60 points. His career average is 42 points a season and he's on pace for 20 points. McAvoy's career average is 50 points and he's on pace for 28. Pasta's career average is 90 points and he's on pace for 69. Swaymans career average is .915 and he's at .884. The list goes on and on...
