This. WWE has criminially underused The Miz since he was absolutely wrecked by John Cena and The Rock simultaneously. His title reign was somehow booked even worse than Seth Rollins'. He should be an upper midcarder.

Yeah...
I used to be down on the guy...
Since I thought a name like Miz should have no business being the main event at Wrestlemania...
But in the past year...
When I paid attention to wrestling again...
I have thoroughly enjoyed his mic skills...
Which I was initially down on too...
And by extension...
His whole body of work.
He also did his best to push Sandow over...
And I respected him for it.

Plus...
He is arguably the best part of UpUpDownDown...
Which is just bonus at this point.

I would probably never put the main title on him ever again...
But as you said...
He should be an upper main carder.
The way WWE has used him recently is downright criminal.

I get an ECW hot bed marking out for Dreamer, but good lord he looked like ****. Lucky for him he didn't take any serious bumps or he would of been concussed again. He was gassed out of the gate. It was sad.

Honestly they could of built something here. Setting up all these stakes in the Roman title match with his mates potentially losing their title shots. There was potential to tell some actual stories of potential dissension among his friends and family, and thus build the hatred for HHH from Roman even more.

Instead they build a heel stable that Roman already stomped last week formed and them plus New Day forced to try and get Roman over and failed as Dean was the one who was the most over...AND HE ATE THE PIN! The guy is who supposed to fight for the IC Title (whose champ isn't even on TV this week). Why have the Usos in the match if Dean is going to eat the pin?!?!

I kind of wish they teased this potential Charlottle heel turn without Paige involved. Baby Flair clearly works better as a heel and Becky is the ultimate baby face.

Everything else was ****.

Smackdown's 1.15 rating can't be solely blamed on Thanksgiving. Last year they had a 2.09 rating for the show with 1.5m viewers more than this year's show.

This is just horrible. I wish 2008 TNA was still around. They could have been legit competition to modern day WWE.

If the Nielsen twitter ratings are any indication, and they're pretty in line with what the TV ratings ended up being, this week's Raw could dip below 2.1... only a unique audience of 1.077 million... down 21% from last week's show.

They also sent a survey out to their Fan Council on how to improve Raw in the short-term rather than long-term...

Questions from the survey:

After running through a series of questions trying to get to the bottom of why people do not watch an entire Raw, only watch a specific hour, fast-forward through certain segments, etc., WWE asked the following key question:

– “How would the inclusion of the following ideas impact your interest in viewing Raw more often?” The options were:

Specialty matches
Time spent addressing the fans
Championship matches
Celebrity guest appearances
Celebrity guests included in matches
Legends appearances
Legends included in matches
Prior to getting to the key question, WWE asked the following questions in the survey, which provided insight on how WWE breaks down an episode of Raw…

– How often do you typically watch Raw?

– Which of the following video streaming services do you subscribe to?

– How have your viewing habits of Raw changed compared to the past?

– Which of the following ways do you watch Raw? (WWE Network, WWE App, Live, Highlights on WWE.com or social media, record and watch later, Hulu)

– Which of the following describes how you primarily watch Raw?

– Which of the following describes how many hours of Raw you tend to watch during any given week? (Less/at least an hour, at least two hours, entire episode)

– Before Raw airs, how frequently do you check to see which Superstars or Divas are going to appear on Raw?

– Who in your household also watches Raw?

– How often do you see advertisements about upcoming episodes of Raw?

– Where do you see advertisements about upcoming episodes of Raw?

– Do you ever change the channel during an episode of Raw (including during commercial breaks)?

– Do you ever fast forward during recorded episodes of Raw?

– What are some reasons why you fast-forward during recorded episodes of Raw? (Commercial breaks, match not exciting, Superstar/Diva not interested in, backstage interviews, talking segments)

– What is the primary reason you fast forward during recorded episodes of Raw?

– In general, do you watch Monday Night Football? (Yes, No, depends on who is playing)

– Do you usually watch Raw for the same amount of time each week?

– How well do you like each segment of Raw?

In-ring talking segments,
Backstage interviews
Matches
Video packages
Superstar/Diva entrances
Backstage interactions between Superstars/Divas

– Thinking about Raw episodes over the last few months following SummerSlam, how you would rate Raw on the following metrics

Entertaining from start to finish
Storylines
Providing unexpected moments
Quality of matches
Level of entertainment
Athleticism of Superstars/Divas
Variety of Superstars/Divas featured

– Typically, do you think each of the following segments of Raw are given too much, not enough or just the right amount of time

Superstars/divas in-ring promos to build storylines
Talking segments about what is coming up
Talking segments from commentators about what has happened
Backstage interviews
Backstage interactions
Divas/Superstar matches
Matches that don’t affect storylines
Main Event matches
Matches that affect storylines
Championship matches
Recaps of previous episodes

– If you were aware matches were going to appear during a specific hour of Raw before the airing of the show, would you be more likely to tune into Raw during that hour?

I thought that Ambrose was gonna come out and deck Reigns, causing the DQ and keeping everyone's title shots.

I wish they would've went that route. You can reasonably explain it as a face outsmarting the heels and then do a call back as maybe he screwed RR.

Reigns is just a terrible babyface. I'm sure I'm biased but his "it's all good" smile and demeanor just annoy the crap out of me. Where, as a heel they'd be assets. He just isn't believable or likeable at all to me.

That survey screams, "What are we doing wrong? Tell us..."

Mick Foley is a fifteen minute drive away from your headquarters. He'll answer all those things. For free. Today.

If Ambrose did that, that's a heel turn. He's costing his boy his title shot. There's never a guarantee of a rematch following the rematch even if you win by DQ in wrestling. Hell, the rematch clause is a given but isn't a guarantee either if you really want to be technical. lol

I agree that the current incarnation of Reigns is an awful babyface. But if he's allowed to be a heel and more natural, it's easy to see him being a good babyface down the road when some of those heel mannerisms are incorporated into his face gimmick.

Of course it's that but even with a survey like this, there's no guarantee that this even gets to where it needs to go. I don't think Vince is spearheading this survey and I don't believe that there aren't those there telling him when something is wrong. The wrestlers do it frequently and they probably have a better pulse on the audience than any non-talent will even with a good market research department.

And Foley may have his own critique of the product and I'm sure there's plenty we'd agree with but ideas on what to put out there may not be so great. Besides, most suggestions from former talent seems to all revolve around more creative freedom for the talent and let them sink or swim. And I just don't think that WWE with Vince in charge has the capability of letting go that control. Trips probably does as long as it doesn't piss off his wife but he doesn't call the shots.

Personally, I'd like to see a lot less production and staging. WWE is too much of a parody of wrestling and too choreographed. A match is no longer a natural flow of moves and storytelling...even the good ones because the finish is always pretty much the same down to the step and placement depending on what the finish is. A pinfall victory should not predominantly come from either a finisher into a pin facing the hard camera or a roll-up.

Wouldn't it have been WAY more interesting if they went through with it and Roman lost, whether by DQ or whatever after the time limit and now all his mates had to earn their title shots back?

Suddenly you got mid card stories to tell, and Roman's perfect little babyface world crumbling around him.

Instead nothing changed. This is EXACTLY WHY no one wants to watch.

Tommy Dreamer has a history of concussions, right? Yet the WWE were fine putting him in the ring on Raw...kinda throws some water on their "concern" about DB.

Highlights of Foley on Austin's podcast: https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/3v0074/recap_of_mick_foley_on_the_steve_austin_show/

Foley has a hard time buying into The Authority. He is concerned that WWE is going to react to low viewership by doubling down on WWE's strongest personalities (Triple H & Stephanie) but they're not the ones with their names on the marquee. The Authority isn't wrestling night after night on the road. Austin complimented Triple H and Stephanie, but feels that it's time to wind down The Authority angle. It's the same old stuff. Austin wants to see the heels get theirs and some back to basics law and order.
Mick says the 'danger' of bringing up good ideas is that once the idea gets out there, WWE wants to go in a different direction to surprise people. He feels Reigns joining The Authority at Survivor Series would have made the most sense and would have been a much better scenario than what we got. Foley says WWE is trying to put Roman Reigns in the Steve Austin anti-Authority role and that doesn't work for everybody. He wishes he could speak to Reigns and talk some sense into him
Austin asks Mick if he thinks the talent is being over-coached and over-produced. Foley talks about the art of the promo and how the best promos work off bullet points and allow the talent's personality to shine. The freedom to improvise no longer exists and it completely handcuffs the talent. Talent should not be afraid to make mistakes. If you try to eliminate the chance of disasters (ie. a promo bombing), you also take away the chance that something really special will take place. Foley referenced Dusty Rhodes how great he was on the mic. He mentioned Dusty's "Hard Times" promo. He said that if Dusty had handed the transcript of that promo in to a high school English teacher, he'd get a C+. But the way Dusty delivered it, it's magic. Austin said when you try too hard to be "what they want you to be," you can't be what makes you special. They reminisced about their time on top and the freedom they had to experiment.
Both guys put over Sasha Banks as being a great worker with an original character but (recurring theme here) she's being completely held down by the booking. Foley said, "She's living the dream, she's got this character that works and I think she's being messed with. If you have someone who is there, who is firing on all cylinders .. and I'm talking to Vince, leave her alone and let her do her thing. You're 70, Vince. She's 23. You don't speak to everybody out there. Just because you don't get it doesn't mean it's not there to be gotten. You have people chanting We Want Sasha, it's not without reason. Please, Mr. McMahon. Please leave her alone. Let her do her thing. If they want her, give her to them. Let her do her thing. You're looking for faces, future faces of the company. Here's one of them. It makes me sad to see someone work so hard, who is there and is being led in different directions."

In his podcast with Keller, Keller and Austin both agreed that "this is awesome" chants should also be an insult to the performers instead of booing or cheering. The heel should not be doing cool moves to get the "this is awesome" response, and he should be cutting the babyface off from performing those moves to get heat.

Why was Owens off TV? don't tell me he's injured.

what I liked:

- Lana's back
- Dreamer entrance
- New Day (that's a given)
- The Rusev chest pound. Also, "She's mine so SHUT UP!" His mannerisms are gold
- The Flair finish (will Charlotte play more dirty in the future? I think it would help, seems like she need more layers to her character)
- Lucha dragons consistently getting more air time (big fan of these guys)
- The Miz. I think he's extremely underrated. One of the best guys on the mic.
- I love Becky Lynch's entrance
Owens was sent home ill apparently.

No way that actually happens, but I am INTRIGUED! Could they really give KO the rocket rub?

Would have to be face Brock vs Heel KO right?

No way it happens though. I don't believe enough people in creative believe in KO enough to put the rocket on him like that.

Court Bauer still has sources in every department in the company, and knew about Charlotte's "turn" last night when no one else did.

There's clearly legit discussions regarding this and my god, if they do it, I'll be pumped. Lesnar needs FRESH match-ups and who better than Kevin Owens?

***

In other news, and it's Vince Russo, so take it for what it's worth, but he was on the Wrestlinginc podcast and said he's heard rumblings that the USA Network wants, and needs an edgier product from WWE, but WWE doesn't want to make that change right now. Russo said if these declining ratings continue there could be a showdown between USA Network and WWE regarding the edginess of the product, but in the end, it's WWE's call on what they rate their show.

All I know is a show in a prime time television spot on Monday night should not be catered towards kids. Make Smackdown that show and make Raw the edgier one.

Owens will walk out of WrestleMania as the biggest deal of the decade if he somehow wins. And it would be an amazing match.

RAW doesn't need to be edgier, it just needs to be better.
