The usual suspects. Bemidji sticks out like a sore thumb. I'll be at the Friday big school session (semis) at the X.

I think Blaine gets that 5th seed. They have wins over both Eden Prairie and Hill. Eden Prairie will probably get the 4th seed due to the conference they play in. If it comes down to Hill vs. Blaine, I think the coaches will give the nod to Blaine based on the h2h matchup. I also think Bemidji is good enough to get a seed but wont, due to the fact they didn't play any city teams.

Hermantown has been in the A-finals every year since 2010... they last won the title in 2007.

I hope they lose in the first game this time.

Something like that. Was it last year they got screwed in OT? Dman got tackled in their own zone, no call, goal 5 seconds later.

Think that was 2 years ago against St. Thomas. Last year East Grand Forks beat them pretty handily.

Can someone tell me to clarify for me - did the state tournament used to end on Sunday afternoon/night?

I swear I recall it ending on Sunday but maybe I'm wrong. Can anyone confirm for me?

I don't recall it ending on a Sunday and I've been following it for 30+ years.

State High School rules prevent any sporting events on Sundays. Championships have always been on Saturdays.

All four of those are great.

Edina will smoke Bemidji. The other three games look like good ones, though.

Thanks. I must have just thought it.

Also I agree Bemidji will possibly get embarrassed by Edina.

Can't wait. Hope teams from the North do the business.

Amen. Once Tonka lost I went straight onto the bandwagon of whomever is playing Edina or the privates. And in the quarters, that means Duluth East and Bemidji. (And I guess Lakeville North, too.)

I'm excited...we're finally to the point where there are streams outside of MN.

Dang you guys, I am en-route to LA at the moment and will miss the tournament for the first time since I can remember, like 94'. Pour one out for me at McGoverns.

I hope to god, Bemidji can give the cake a game but it'll be tough, I am a LN follower as I have an affiliation with the school as a coach of another sport but they really do have a tough game against HM. This is a tough draw but this will be an EXTREMELY competitive tournament for all 3 rounds, which is a great thing. Something we've all wanted for years. I hope Bemidji wins on Thursday and please, for those of us who would usually be $243.32 into a McGovern's tab on grape apes, keep us the effff updated.

I have an idea for a new format for the state tournament. I don't want to change the one we have but what is your opinion on making the tournament like this:

Small schools play big schools from each section in one big, 16 team tournament:

1A vs 1AA
2A vs 2AA
3A vs 3AA
4A vs 4AA
5A vs 5AA
6A vs 6AA
7A vs 7AA
8A vs 8AA

And then it goes on from there? These first round games would all be televised and then it would go from there.

What do you think? I personally think it would give "small" schools more legitimacy in that, from the above situation you could possibly get, like, a 5A vs 1AA championship matchup, and so on.

I know this would never happen in a million years (in fact i"m expecting them to expand the tournament if anything, to AAA or even more, like basketball), but I am just throwing it out there for opinions.
