OT: MLB Thread 2025

Metsies have that "on any given night" vibe that they did last season. They still have warts, for sure, but they get it done. A lot of electricity with them.

That Alonso slide was wild. That's the exact slide you think guys are going to try when they go in head first but they absolutely never do. Alonso of all people. He's actually pretty athletic for a chonker.

been loving Will Warren this season but that 6th inning implosion just did not need to happen. 3 walks when you're up 6? Why? You got Devers out, it's not like the Sox are loaded with killers after him. Just throw strikes man.

Blue Jays are starting to move....won 4 series in a row and lots of hits...hopefully they can hang around a WC spot /race to make it worth watching .

Injuries starting to take its toll on the Yanks staff.I appreciate what Yarbrough has done so far,but they seriously need to upgrade his spot.Bp could use more help too...Hamilton has been bad so far this year to keep trusting in close games

The NYE Mets are my favourite squadron

I actually feel sorry for Colorado. Well, they're very good in hockey, so i don't feel that sorry.

I see some people pointing to what Pete is doing this season and saying the Mets made a mistake not signing him to a longer deal. I still think it was absolutely the right move. No one could have realistically predicted this season. By bWAR he has already matched last season, will probably match his second-best season by the ASG, and is on pace to have his best-ever season. And he'll be 31 before the year is over.

Well, with the season he's having the Mets will have to pay more to get him to sign a longer term deal. But to play devils advocate maybe hes trying extra hard because he knows a new contract is at stake. I've seen this so many times where a player has a great season right before they sign a new contract. Alexis LaFreniere, Igor and Juan Soto all come to mind. I think Juan Soto was still a good signing and has a GREAT future with the Mets and I'm glad to see him lately playing better but still .. if he had a season last year like he's having this year probably wouldn't have gotten such a juicy contract. Really Alonso's biggest weakness is his fielding which tbh is still a handicap so I don't blame the Mets for not being over eager to sign him, but the way they dragged him along and just dicked around forever in hindsight, he deserved better money and more love. Hopefully they sign him up for at least a few more years as he's proving to be a major asset and really such a likeable guy. Deserves to stay a Met until he retires.

Them and the Rays just won't lose
They lost today/Sunday . It was like somebody flipped a switch on the hitting . long relief guys sucked as well...at least they got the 2/3 on the road . On to St Louis...that will be a test for the bats against a team that is always strong defensively it seems .

I don't really follow the BB thread...but was wondering on what the split would be on here for Yanks/Mets fans ? I loved the Yankees back in the Munson-Nettles-Jackson -Pinella -Randolph - Guidry-RJ days....they had some great clubs and series with the Dodgers .

It's pretty close, maybe skews a little to the Yankees. It's also dependent on how the teams are playing. If the Mets are tearing it up you'll see a lot of talk about them and vice versa. Everyone plays nice in here which also helps.

We were lucky watching so many stars back then. in the 70-80's ...Nolan Ryan -JR Richards - Gwynn-Seaver-Carew - -Garvey-Sandberg-Dawson-Puckett-Gibson-Palmer-Brett-Gooden -Strawberry-Carter-Raines-Ozzie....just so many that brought you out of your seats and Mel Allen's show every week was awesome .

I remember watching the 1977 world series as an 11 year old. The drama and suspense was fantastic. Billy Martin with fire in his belly. Reggie with 3 homers in 1 game. The fans running onto the field after the win. I liked the tv announcers from back then too, phil rizzuto and others. Channel 11 they had a cool jingle too. Then later dont forget about David Cone the iconic pitcher 1st for the Mets then later for the Yankees, remember the cone heads? He was a bad ass.

I loved this week in baseball. Todays young fans do not get that kind of simple excitement.
From your Yankees team who was RJ? Did you mean Reggie? You mentioned him earlier (Jackson).

Yankee pitching has stunk up the joint this weekend.
Even though technically Im a Mets fan, I've been watching the Yankees - Red Sox matchups this weekend. Its an old time rivalry, lol. Like a moth to a flame I'm drawn to it. Even though the Red Sox are in a poor spot in the standings they've seemed pretty decent both when they faced the Mets and also against the Yankees this year.

George Brett going apeshit over the pine tar call is absolutely etched into my brain
That story is in the book Steinbrenner that I have read a lot. Still confused by the league office decision. If the ump made the correct call by the rule how could they change the call after the game and make them play the back half of the 9th inning another time?

Nettles was one of my favorite players. He and Brett had a fierce rivalry but a lot of respect as well.
