OT: MLB Thread 2025

I'm trying to be patient with Soto but there is basis for concern. Showing up to the introductory press conference with a gut. Dogging it in RF and down the first base line. His general care-free demeanor. Where did the Soto Shuffle go? I'll continue to be patient because we really have no choice, but he hasn't had a Mets moment yet and still doesn't feel like part of the team.
I'd like to read one of those pieces where one of the beat writers talk to opposing team scouts anonymously for their honest takes on what's happening with him, stuff they wouldn't say on record.

People talk about the $765 million contract but to be fair he is only being paid $126.9 million this year so is it fair to expect him to always give 100%?

Eh I remember when Lindor and several others on the team were giving the thumbs-down sign after getting hits partly to antagonize the fans. Not only was he playing poorly, it was looking like things might get ugly. And within a season or two he became a beloved figure.

There's nothing to suggest a 26-year-old superstar in Juan Soto is in decline. There's always an adjustment period, and whether he shows it or not I'm sure the contract is weighing on him. But like with Lindor, even if you have a "bad" first season, you still have plenty of runway to turn it around.

Soto should've run out that groundball but shame on Mets fans falling for the talk radio propaganda. You have the brain of a goldfish if you cant remember Beltran and Lindor's acclimation to the Mets. Its been a month and a half. Yanks can have the series win at home in May. We did sweep them all 4 games last year.

It reminds me a bit of A-Rod.

When we got A-Rod (I was young) it was like man, I don't care, you're A-Rod. We brought you here to be the best. You better hit .600.

And then he won a couple of MVP's and even then it was a vibe of like "yeah, but this guy is annoying sometimes."

And then, we all got old, and A-Rod came and went, and now looking back, it's like "man, I miss A-Rod."

Nobody is ever going to justify the stupid contracts they give out, but someday you look around and realize most of the players who get them can't be replicated.

yeah like being petty for a second Soto going 1 for 10 was funny but the idea that he's overnight a lazy slob and not still a generational driver of offense is just insanity. He will get there and the Mets will have a first class 1-3 in the league. it's going to happen.

I do think that there was some pressing with Soto early on but he hasn't even been bad.

Lindor legit sucked his first year with the Mets. Soto has been Soto, his BABIP is just .240.

There are no red or even yellow flags with anything under the hood with him, everything looks exactly as it normally does (if not better than usual) except for the end result - He'll be fine.

Vientos otoh I'd be slightly worried about. I know some of the heavy data people cautioned against him after his break out season but most of the public data looked promising for him.

Not so much thus far this year. The nerds may have nailed this one.

Yeah it's way too early to toot horns about Soto being "bad"

Like you said, Lindor was awful his first year, and now he's a god amongst men and would get a bronze statue outside Citi Field if the Mets in it all.

Lol Alonso hits one high off the green monster and is thrown out at 2nd. Not the first time this has happened in Fenway, but that's just the way it's going for the Mets

A Mets fan comes in here depressed about Soto, and all the Yankees fans are like "nah, you're good."

WHY DO WE HAVE TO BE TOXIC IN EVERY OTHER THREAD???!!

Is baseball just a nice sport?
The obvious no direct competition is it. The Jets/Giants threads are never like that either, but that's out of sheer incompetence from both front offices and coaches.

Also outside of the ignorant people in RF yelling f*** Juan Soto all weekend, I don't think that many Yankee fans care. They shouldn't really care that much anyway.

If the Mets won 2 more games in the NLCS last year, this thread might be a little unhinged.

A lot of talk today that Soto wanted to stay with the Yanks but his family wanted him to go for the Mets. I was disappointed in his decision at first but now I think it worked out for the best for both teams.

The ball Alonso hit off the green monster was the hardest hit ball at 24 deg launch angle that didn't leave the park in the stat cast era

No one cares to hear the "back in my day" shit from me, but back when I was an admin/mod I regularly closed the NFL thread down. It was awfully toxic and things could get really, really nasty. I would also thread ban any and everyone including guys I'm quite close with now.

I had to do the same thing with the MLB thread once or twice but it was not nearly as bad.

That was something that helped many years ago, and another big thing that helped is the fact that a lot of the guys that used to really instigate just don't post here anymore (I feel like I can name Son of Steinbrenner because he's long gone, LOL).
