West coast teams will be the preference for Japanese stars moving forward. Another challenge for Mets and Yanks to overcome. It seems that the dodgers are going to be a Japanese all star team in 5 years.

no offense, but id rather have los mets be latin all star team than japanese

Report that the Mets are out on Alonso.

Seems like he's really getting bad advice or the Mets are really being cheap.

The Mets have the 4th highest payroll in baseball. This team has the most cash spent on them in baseball (Soto having a 75M signing bonus puts them over the top).

They've been anything but cheap.

Is Pete done? The reports say the Mets expect him to sign elsewhere. Of course that could be a negotiating ploy, but signing Winker seems like they may just go bring in a handful of other guys to fill holes elsewhere.

Genuinely would not have guessed The Mets/Alonso divorce after that postseason. Kinda does bum me out. I do like that earnest dork.

I guess I still have to see what he gets from someone else but man Pete had himself a Conforto moment. Turned down a contract offer to bet on himself. Had a pretty awful walk year. Now his market seems bone dry.

I still have a pretty reliable source in the organization. He told me today neither the rumor the Mets were talking to Toronto nor the rumor Toronto is working on an extension for Vlad are true. Toronto management supposedly was enraged over the leak they felt came from the Mets and it was their way of saying do not F with us to gain leverage for your guy so now they got the media to shill for them. I am sure that'll go over well with Vlad. He still says and has been saying for 6 weeks Alonso won't be back most likely. Best case is he signs for 3 years with an opt out post 25 and that he will take it and Mets will not pursue him further at that point. So if he DOES come back sounds like unless he bombs or gets hurt it will be for a year only.

The writing was on the wall the minute he signed with Boras. I thought it was a mistake then and still think so.

This does seem more like both sides being close to done with these discussions and just negotiating through the media. I don’t think Pete will get a better offer elsewhere, and I wouldn’t blink twice if the pivot is to focus on signing Bregman. I love Pete, but I’m not willing to go through this whole rigamarole of dealing with Boras.

Super happy Winker is back as a depth piece though, which is really funny to be saying a year after this dude was a Mets villain
