That's pretty disingenous. Most of that is from an MVP season from Bellinger 6 years ago and those days are over he is a clearly different player at this point in his career. Hasn't sniffed 8 wins since then (1.5, -1.7, 1.4, 4.4, 2.2 WAR) and if anything the 4.4 win season from '23 looks like the abberation.

Bellinger is way more of a wild card at this point than Santander.

I mean with all else being equal (same contract and cost to acquire etc) think you easily take Santander over him.
Even without the 8 wins, he has him beat pretty easily.

By the same logic, Santander's 44 homers are an aberration. It's very likely that he goes back to slugging slightly better than Bellinger while defense and OBP fall off significantly.

And if Bellinger sucks, he's gone in two years. Somebody is going to be stuck with Santander.

A soon to be 30 year old (essentially) DH who's hit more than 33 homers once and gets on base less than Jazz Chisholm. That's really good stuff.

There were rumors on Twitter yesterday that Ricky had died but people were not finding any confirmation in the media. Wonder how things got to Twitter faster than to the media.

The original source I believe was a local Oakland newspaper mentioning he died while in the hospital battling pneumonia.

Thats possible. Some video online pointed the blame at Dave Winfield. Doesn't matter since it was true.

3/75 is a good deal for both sides. Mets get some security with a middle of the rotation guy for the next couple seasons and Manaea gets less term, but probably the same dollar amount (or close) he would have gotten on a 4 year deal with another team.

Now it's time to bring back Alonso for 4/100.

Do you think they can get Alonzo for only 100 after Soto for 775?

I said before I don't hate the Goldy signing but it's just another wildcard on a team with a lot of wildcards. They need to knock 3B out of the park imo. Like a totally unexpected move, and that's not at all the Yankees MO.

it's why despite how good he still is i'm really not into an Arenado trade, his bat is rapidly declining. Is his defense enough to make up for it? It could be, if every other roster player performs, but if not....

His market has clearly regressed. He is not getting 200M+ over 7 years like he wanted. The rest of the guys that were available have moved. The only respectable 1st base option left on the market is Rizzo.

The teams needing/wanting a 1st baseman have made moves. Who is spending big bucks on Alonso? The Mariners want to, but have to move Castillo first. Are the Cubs going to add him? Moved Bellinger after getting Kyle Tucker, but they probably want to re-sign him after this season and having Alonso on a long term commitment won't help with that.

A 25M AAV for Alonso is about right. Walker got 3/60. He's been better than Walker and is younger. Maybe you could say 5/125, but the AAV is correct. Adames got 26M over 7 years. He plays a premium position and is a year younger and was better than Alonso.

Honestly you know the market way better than I do. I just think that is a big meatball for Boros to expect Alonzo to swallow. I got Soto $785 mill but you are only getting $100 mill

It's more the term than AAV, but it's basically 51M vs 25M per season. As good as Alonso has been, he's really about half the player Soto is.

I can see your logic. I think Boros may have blown it for Pete. He is only 30 so I would think he would want more than 4 years. Once those teams got their own first basemen it really hurt Pete's chance.
