This was truly an awful year for the Brooklyn Cyclones (especially after Sproat's & McLean's promotions), but I think they'll be much more interesting on the position player side next adding Baro, Hernandez, Baez, and Benge. Hopefully more players on base, fewer 1-2-3 innings. Pitching won't be a strength. Morabito gets promoted, probably. Speaking of him, he probably doesn't have a ton of upside, but next year will tell whether he's going to be a long term utility player. He is extremely fast, and he gets on base consistently at lower levels. The question is whether he can do that against better pitching.

This power from Acuna is kind of unexpected. But you can see that he swings hard & hits the ball hard. But every little bit that he does puts even pressure on Alonso. Mauricio's has been the forgotten player because of his injury. Mauricio is easily twice the fielder Vientos is at 3B, and he's a switch hitter. The Mets are definitely better defensively with Mauricio at 3rd, either McNeil or Acuna at 2nd, and Vientos at 1st. That infield seems a much better bang for the buck compared to paying Alonso as a position player as opposed to at DH, which is where he's got to be.

Alvarez has finally rounded into form. He's been fighting so many injuries this year, which makes one wonder whether he should be at DH more, but you can also tell that he needs to be a catcher. I still love his game.

This whole thing will be alot easier in 6-8 years when MLB expands and we go to 8 playoff teams and no bye. The bye is detrimental anyhow which might spell good news for the Mets if they haven’t already clinched come the final series because suspect even if Milwaukee is in reach of the bye they’ll play that series as if they can give two craps what happens. Philly likely will also clinch this weekend, if they do it tonight tomorrow or Saturday it’s likely a free W for the Mets the next day as they’ll be beyond plastered and nobody of meaning will start. They honestly might only need to go 3-4 in these 7 games and they will probably get in barring being swept by the Brewers

There is no doubt if the Mets win a World Series or come close in 2025 or 2026 its going to likely be via the 02 Angels route probably. The SP market just won't be there as anyone who might look open is gonna get signed probably. They have to sign Manea and Severino and hope somehow that one of Sproat/Butto/ others can fill in those 3-5 spots but they're going to be largely an offensive team for the next 2-3 years if you believe Mauricio/Alvarez/Gilbert/Vientos are gonna be for real that lineup is stupidly good. I think Acuna might just be in the honeymoon phase now ala Shane Spencer/Mike Jacobs, I don't see him as a big bat long term. Alonso you'd assume is gone and if somehow this team does the unexpected and wins a WS probably all of him/Manea/Sevy are going to walk and take the money but thats a good problem to have

Acuna isn't a flash in the pan either. He's a ++ athlete. He will be a MLB starter at SS or 2b somewhere. Can't say that about those other guys.

It's huge to get the 1st game in a short series. Mets seem to be living or dying by the big inning. So pretty important imo for them to have to shots at it.

Gotta target the big inning against the SP Montas, as he doesn't have a great ERA but their bullpen is nasty.

Of course, me saying that about Montas means he's gonna be bloody sock Curt Schilling tonight.

I didn't see the game bc of Jewish New Year celebrations. But it really looked like they just didn't get enough before the bullpen. Not a surprising result, tbh.

Looking forward to tonight. Tbh Quintana isn't a bad option - he throws a lot of ground balls, not too many HRs. Being a left helps control the runners, hopefully. Too bad he can take a little while to warm his way into a game.

Pete not being able to knock in the run on third base in the first inning is a killer. First and third, 1 out and he grounds into a double play because he trips over his bat exiting the box. Just sucks, at the very least the big time power hitter has to at least sign up for a sac fly there.

He's been so bad recently, which is a shame because I would assume these are his last days in a Met uniform...

I'm glad you have some optimism in Capt. Quintana because I'm not super comfortable with him on the dump in a do or die game. Hope you're right and I'm wrong!

hey, looking for answers. confidence in the lineup isn't so high. Pete hasn't seemed terribly dangerous up there, for sure. But the things that the Mets declined to spend money on to "go" for it this year (a corner outfielder, and another plus bat for DH) means it has dead spots. Bader looks lost, and Taylor's always been a meh hitter. Marte's power seems gone. So it's up to Lindor, Nimmo, Vientos, and Alonso. I wonder whether Lindor or Alvarez would even be on the field if it weren't the playoffs.

I agree with you as well, I would like to see Winker again today. He's such a douche, but I think that can feed into the team gaining some confidence and swagger which is needed in the playoffs.

He was the last out yesterday and got boo'd by the Milwaukee faithful because of him jawing with Adames. But looking back, he got some good wood on that fly out, better than JD and Pete have looked. Let him stew on being the last out and dealing with the boos, then have him let is all out today. Plus, he was acquired as a rental, his playing for a job next season - let him show it.

Lindor is bouncing throws to first. I doubt he is healthy. Alonso hasn’t hit a HR in almost a month and is an automatic out most at bats. Same thing for Martinez. I’m pleasantly surprised the team has made it this far. There will be many changes this offseason whenever that happens

Yet he's still making 360 degree spin throws and putting guys out. He's a beast. But later on he made a diving play where it looked like he was wincing.

Gimme this to start:
Lindor - SS
Iglesias - 2B
Vientos - 3B
Nimmo - LF
Winker - DH
Marte - RF
Alonso - 1B
Taylor - CF
Alvarez - C
