Confirmed with Link: Mittelstadt re-signed (3 years, $5.75M AAV)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
The biggest problem is that the Avs cannot afford for him to take an entire season to "figure it out" while their contention window is slipping through their fingers. You can excuse them for the positive early returns, but there was always inherent risk in trading their most valuable "expendable" piece for an unproven player. Now they're paying the price for it.

It's terrifying to think that Mittelstadt is potentially only a ~40-45 point average 2/3C tweener who can't skate and we gave up our best trade chip for him.

At 1st glance an injury or illness would look most likely. But everyone seems to be saying and acting as if he is fully healthy. So, I have no idea what it is. Maybe it's a PAP type issue going on where nobody can or should talk about it.

Whats even more odd is that he was doing well when Drouin, Lehkonen, and Nichushkin were out. Around the time they came back is when he started to struggle.

He's suiting up and being called out by Bednar. Unless hes concealing it, an injury is unlikely.

The theory that rarely gets mentioned because its hard to prove is that he's a victim of the blender. When those guys mentioned above were out, he probably played with guys he was on a line with going back to training camp/pre season. He had time to develop rapport. Then Nichushkin, Lehkonen, and Drouin come back and its the blender playing with guys he hadnt played with in months.

I can't imagine he has positive value with those stats and that contract.

Imagine having to pay to dump his ass a year after trading Byram for him. Then having to find more assets to get a new 2C.

That's a nightmare scenario for the GM.

I'm feeling pretty validated on my "mitts is not the guy" take.

Dude is f***ing nosediving

He can be better than he is now, but the amount of shit I took just for calmly and without hyperbole expressing my concerns with the trade, makes me want to bump that trade thread every day.

We'll see how it plays out, but it feels like it's going to end with Mitts being traded again, and the Avs having to face Byram playing top pair with Hughes in Vancouver every year.

I would prefer Mitts becoming the 2C everyone thought he would be though.

Lol, he absolutely does. Despite his horriffic slump, people have seen him being a capable #2C. He's young, his deal is for 2 more years at less than 6M dollars. He has more value than Mikko Rantanen on the trade market today, if you look at just the contracts.

No kidding. Silly comment considering the dearth of Cs and the resulting demand for them. Once you start making a list of teams who would likely be interested your point should be pretty obvious:

Detroit
Boston
Carolina
Montreal
Philadelphia
Seattle
Vancouver (?)
Calgary
Pittsburgh
NYI
NYR

...some of these teams are looking to unload more expensive veterans.

Do Detroit have any centres we know Bednar would trust we could trade for?

The puck from the last Mitts goal was found, but nobody remembered when it happen so they had to carbon date it.

Nah, I think JT2C was "butthurt" (as they say) that the front office didn't make a push to re-sign him prior to UFA

Once his contract runs down, I can see him becoming a Lars Eller like addition for center depth, but that's still a couple years off now

If I was JTC. And I'm not but I wish I was. I wouldn't want to play for an organization that is so inept that it thinks they can replace me with Ryjo.

Sounds like Mitts is only good when he plays with hard working players. That'd explain why he was good with 4th liners at the beginning of the season and why he was shit with Rantanen.

Now between Lehky and Drouin he's at his best. They do all the hard work.

Yeah it is plainly obvious now. They should defo stick with the newfound 2nd line right now and let those boys build.

Real non sarcastic non trolling non politics take from the one and only @NOTENOUGHRYJOTHINGS

I have genuine belief that getting in a bunch of practices and reps with the team when MacK and Makar aren't around will be helpful for Mitts going forward.

He's got good vision but he's not the type of guy to adapt well and MacK and Makar push the pace to levels that the average player just can't keep up with.

Mitts will be able to slow things down to his own pace and get more in tune with his linemates.

Inside Mittelstadt is the heart of a lion. And he is going to show what he truly is made of starting next week and all the way into June.

That’s exactly what a sarcastic troll would say

Mittlestadt will be fine once he gets traded. Reminds me of Granlund where he looked like trash in Pittsburgh, but once he went to a slower system he's good again.
