I've never had to question Kadri's effort or "softness." If others did during that season then maybe we were just seeing things differently.

Maybe you didn't, but I absolutely remember plenty of people who did during his worst stretch.

That being said the current Mitts situation is a tough one because even when he's playing really well, still not totally convinced he's a great fit for how the Avs want to play, which is with a lot of pace.

And time is simply running out for him to get his shit together. I'm not sure the Avs would do it but IMO they should be considering a pivot at the 2C spot and moving in a different direction if this slump is extended into February and into the 4 Nations tournament. We don't have the luxury of waiting a year for him to get a fresh start on a new season, like we were able to do with Kadri back in 2022. Our window is basically now or never.

And the thing is we know there's Centers available that would help us. Once again we know there's guys on the market who would make a big impact in that 2C spot for us. It's a question of whether we are actually willing to put our balls on the table and make such a bold move or do we ride it out with Mitts, and hope he figures it out again before April gets here. It's certainly possible he does. But it's also possible he doesn't and then our year is wasted and probably our window is closed.

I think the Kadri season is a perfect comparison? He was horrible in every aspect of the game.

I you look at Mitts career. His last two season's were the outlier. This season, he's struggled with the same inconsistency, and prolonged slumps he's had his entire career.

Regression toward the mean should have been everyone's concern at the time of the trade.

Everyone should also keep in mind that scoring started to go way up with recent rule changes in 2021-22, the season before Mitts numbers bumped up. It went down again this season to almost the average before.

Most of Kadri career was before that, and he still has a noticeably higher scoring average. He was inconsistent from year to year, but every other year, or every few years he'd have a really good season.

Maybe. But I would find it interesting for Mitts to have everything click, which was more than just offense as he became very good defensively as well to completely just lose all of that randomly. Which maybe it's a outlier which happens offensively, but I feel like someone turning into a good two way 2C for ~2.5 seasons and then losing it all doesn't make sense to me.

I think he's generally a good defensive forward, one of the best on the team, but I also think people overrated him in this area. Just like his offense, he's very inconsistent defensively.

This was the case last season and in the playoffs as well. He'd have one shift or game, where he was outstanding defensively. Working hard, reading the play well, winning puck battles, breaking up plays, etc.

Then the next shift or game, he'd leave his man open beside the net, or get muscled out of a puck battle.

Case in point was the other game where he was back checking hard, and in place to block two passes through the slot on the rush that ended with a goal, but was skating with his stick in the air, so he didn't block either one.
