Wasn't this guy cleared to play like two weeks ago, what is goin on with this dude??
He was never cleared to play. He was cleared to practice and had inflammation and swelling once he practiced
didnt he get hurt hunting or fishing...... if it was him playing overseas whatever but this is annoying.
Seriously.. I understand the guy is a warrior and blah blah.
But come on.. What's going on here? The most annoying part is there is so much tight lip and nothing being said about the situation.
I guess the part that doesn't make sense to me is that when a player is "medically cleared to play" I assume (perhaps incorrectly) that there is no chance of re-injury in the course of normal use. Meaning he couldn't re-injure the knee just by going out and skating on it, it would have to be something like someone falling on him or catching a rut or any of the other million things you could do to hurt yourself when you don't have a previous injury.
So if that's the case, get your butt on the ice. Also, f he's worried about under-performing, get your butt on the ice. Hes not going to be worse than Drewiske/Muzzin... I just worry that something else is at play here.
Perhaps then it has more to do with conditioning. I doubt he's been able to skate much or do some activities he'd normally do to work on cardio, etc. until he was medically cleared to do so, so while he may be medically able to play, he's not up to 'game shape' so to speak.
But you can't get into game shape when you're not even skating. The game shape issue is usually that 5-10 games or so after coming back from an injury where they get back up to speed and such.
Then maybe it's more a case of what Driller was saying, that he got cleared but then it flared back up.
Not sure, just spitballin' here.
The bottom line is there is obviously a reason why. I doubt the guy just doesn't feel like playing. He doesn't strike me as that sort. I meant the guy came to our team after a major concussion so I don't think anyone should question his toughness or his willingness to play after a tough injury. I'd venture to guess there is a set back but they are speaking about it for whatever reason.
Mitchell is not doing himself any favors by keeping whatever the reason is a secret. Obviously Sutter doesn't know the answer or we would have heard it by now (and Sutter has expressed his own frustration about this as well). If the Kings are withholding that information, then shame on them, but I have no idea why they would do that.
If someone would just explain why, all this hand-wringing would disappear.
He can't get his conditioning if he takes himself or refuses to step on a sheet of ice 2.5 weeks after he was cleared to not only skate, but play. Whatsmore, Hellene Elliot said on XM radio that he looked remarkably out of shape. All of that coupled with him injuring himself in a non training, recreation injury that in most professional conracts is prohibited (per Elliot) makes me a little uneasy about all of this. In this case, he is not subject to his contract and is allowed to do whatever he wanted since the owners locked the players out.It is probably for a reason. I doubt the guy is milking it or just doesn't want to play. From what it sounds like, he has been medically cleared but he isn't physically up to it yet. He hasn't been playing for 8 or 9 months and then had a knee surgery. He is probably going to need some additional time to get his conditioning up to snuff.
I heard somewhere (forgot where) that his knee swelled up after his last skate and wasn't on the trip.
.
That man is long gone.He can't get his conditioning if he takes himself or refuses to step on a sheet of ice 2.5 weeks after he was cleared to not only skate, but play. Whatsmore, Hellene Elliot said on XM radio that he looked remarkably out of shape. All of that coupled with him injuring himself in a non training, recreation injury that in most professional conracts is prohibited (per Elliot) makes me a little uneasy about all of this. Terry Murray is obviously upset about the situation since he refuses to even say Mitchell's name to reporters and instead says "I don't know this player. I only comment on people on the roster" (again per Elliot). Needless to say, it's perfectly ok to be dissapointed in the player in this case, even if we don't know all of the facts.
