Mitch Marner, Yet Again

Context always matters. Marner’s production is naturally going to dip when he misses time or when his primary linemate (Matthews) isn’t scoring at his usual pace due to injury. Ignoring that and just pointing to a downward trend without considering those factors paints an incomplete picture.
Context always matters, 100% agreed and no matter how many numbers you look at, there's always more numbers to look at after that, it's your basic rabbit hole. That said, the biggest number for me is his massive production drop off after 86 games, also 6 points in 12 games his last 2 playoff series is really hard to take no matter how much context you add. Great regular season player though, and in a few weeks he'll get another chance to change the narrative in the playoffs.

You've been lying about watching the games "for quite some time now" or "a month or two". You don't even know how long. Maybe you always "have the game on but am doing other things". Who knows? Either way nothing you say can be believed any more.
I've lost track of how many times I've posted this and I'm sorry if I've hurt your feelings by calling out your nonsense. You keep demonstrating however that you don't understand what you're reading so you're just embarrassing yourself now. Copy/paste once again, maybe get a friend to explain basic English to you if you truly don't get it and aren't just pretending to be obtuse.

I've watched almost every game this year. Last month or two I've rarely watched the entire game but that doesn't mean I "don't watch". I've explained this to you about 16 times already, how do you still not get this?

Good thing it only really takes one good series to make the whole narrative disappear. So let’s hope he proves us all wrong and has a great playoffs.

I’d love if the leafs could beat whoever in 5, so we get his best play according to some people.

It’s a tribute to his brother’s birth year. I think once he got drafted to the leafs they added on the Gilmour thing and Gilmour gave him permission to wear it. I think it was a marketing thing which isn’t uncommon with athletes to find ways to connect with fans.
Maybe, picking Gilmour to market yourself after when you’re more of a Keon is weird.

Doesn’t matter, he gets another chance to prove himself in the playoffs. Let’s see if he can crack through.

Yep... one could tell Marner is very popular, considering how much he complains about his treatment by Leaf fans on social media.
Marner would be in Carolina right now if our GM BT had his way, and Mikko Rantanen would be a Leaf today. Sadly our clueless former GM KD handed out NMC like candy, and that prevented Leafs from upgrading their team.

We have seen year after playoff year how a soft, small easily intimidated Marner performs when the game gets physical, and the time and space on the ice removed he simply disappears.. He's the equivalent of bringing a Butter Knife to a Gun Fight.

1 goal 2 assists 3 points against Boston in 7 games last year.

Marner you have been put on notice... "Elbows up Mitch", get in the fight and off the perimeter this year, because one more miserable playoffs from you and it GAME OVER staying on as Leaf.

Your really fixated on this. Its all you talk about.

What does watching every single minutes of every game going to change when considering a player whose played on the leafs for 9 years?

You don't watch your coworker/employee for every second...can you tell if he's good at his job?

What would someone be missing if they missed the occasional game of Marners vs watching every second of every game? Are you coming to the conclusion that coincidentally the occasional games that are missed Marner just happens to be spectacular?
Why do you even bother lol? It’s all dishonesty with these guys. No one wants to have a real discussion anymore.

They’ll criticize people who don’t watch Marner for every second of the game, yet somehow dismiss professional analysts when they give a negative opinion on Marner. Then when you do find someone on here who watches all the games, they’ll say that you have to watch him in person to see all the little things he does and really appreciate him. It’s all ridiculous, really.

It speaks to integrity. Once you lie about watching the games you have lost ALL integrity. It might be seconds it might be years, it's impossible to know with a liar.
Speaking of integrity, you're the guy who is constantly providing misleading stats, with small samples, missing context, missing Nylander etc etc. You have also admitted to not watching the games.
Online all you have is your integrity and you sir are no Jack Kennedy.

Why do you keep saying "not watching the games"...you mean missing the occasional game over the past 9 years?

How is someone integrity lost if someone doesn't watch every second of every game? Why are they liars if the havent watched every single game?

What are they gonna miss over 9 games by missing the occasional game that would change their perspective on Marner? You've yet to answer this question.

You could watch 41 games out of the year and still be very educated on the type of game every Leaf plays.

He's fixated on it because I don't think he's actually interested in discussing hockey or Leafs players - he's just interested in petty little feuds with other posters.

It's amazing isn't it, that just one good playoff at the end of a 6 year contract can completely change the narrative. It's true though, pro sports are one of those "what have you done for me lately" kind of deals.

I've never thought of it like this but yes, so true. Gilmour and Marner are like polar opposites but Keon is another story, lots of similarities there for sure.

The guy's a classic example of someone who either doesn't understand basic English, or is pretending he doesn't to back some idiotic narrative. Not sure which is worse, but I suppose it doesn't matter.

Unfortunately it seems like there's a lot of this going on here.

Anyhow, I almost never post during games but I did post during the intermission that that was such a beauty goal Marner scored so I'll say it again here. Can you imagine if he did that to win us a game 7, he'd be immortal in this town! It's that time of year where I start getting sucked in again - despite Marner's production plummeting after 86 games and people saying that his game's just not suited to tight-checking playoff hockey, I still want to believe that he can do it and I think to myself you never know, maybe this will be the year. :)

Hope he is preparing himself for one of the Tkachuk brothers in round #1. The Leafs have not beaten the Panthers or Senators this year. His season's stats against the Sens and Panthers look like his playoff stats against the Bruins. 1 goal, 1 assist, -4, 7 SOG playing 20+ minutes and #1 PP time.

Man he was good on the West Coast trip, big reason for the 5 out 6 points.
Looks like he's feeling better. Skating looked much better but we'll know for sure after seeing him tomorrow night.

3rd time you avoided a simple question.... what do you think will be missed on a player if someone doesn't see the occasional game over 9 years.
I can ask silly questions too. Who's only missing the occasional game? How do we know it's only the occasional game? We appear to have people missing months or more at a time. How do we know it's only months? That's who we're talking about so stay on topic.

Are we more defensive? Seems like we’re pacing for the ~4th worst GA since Matthews and Marner entered the league despite having the best goaltending of that period.

Personally, I don’t think so. We have better defensemen and much better goaltending but it seems like we turtle and get outshot a… lot.

This is what selective listening looks like.

If Treliving had his way, he'd be re-signed, that is what Freidman said.

Crazy that a mod can be this wrong.

Again, you’re ready way too much into it. They drew parallels more so about the number and size. Keon didn’t wear 93, so that wouldn’t have made sense from a marketing standpoint. The only people who care about the comparison are people who maybe can’t decipher between marketing ploys from a team/player and an actual player comp. anyone who watched Marner in London knew what that was the minute he was drafted.

He has never played like Gilmour ever. It was simply a way for a young player to connect to a fanbase that was dying for fresh blood after a long drought. It’s not that deep. Many organizations and players do this. It’s not new, Marner won’t be the first or last.
