Mitch Marner, Yet Again

The poster said Willy held out because he saw what Marner got paid but Marner got paid after Nylander so it was incorrect. Pretty obvious statement I thought, no?
That’s just stupid why would he say that 🤣🤣😭sorry my friend whoever you are nylander went first Hes the oldest he was drafted first and started his pro career first it’s kinda common sense

Go read for yourself, wtf. It's what he said and it was on this page. Can you read good?
I’m agreeing with you joker no need to throw an insult I wasn’t talking to you I was too lazy to look and see who made the mistake

I don't. It's very obvious to me who watches every game and not only that, some of us see the games live which is another level.

So, which is it?

Is it the poster who said he doesn't always catch the full game (who stays for blowouts?) and also said after Game 2 vs. Montreal that Marner’s style wouldn’t translate to playoff success?

Or is it the posters who claim to watch every second of every game and insisted, “Haha, you know nothing—he’s been one of the Leafs' best players”?

What’s funny is that the same people saying they watch every game are the ones insisting Marner has been "very good" in the playoffs over the last four years.

The reality? The overwhelming consensus od the hockey community has disagreed with you. And yet, you keep holding out hope for “next playoffs” as if it will vindicate you. It won’t. Nothing will change the fact that Marner was dreadful over the past four years—and the Leafs paid the price for it.

Just as a reminder, here are two sports networks breaking down assistant captain Marner’s play vs. Boston last playoffs. If you don’t want to watch, here are some highlight quotes:

  • “Just pathetic, hasn’t won a battle all night.
  • "I cant defend him abymore, hes just not been very good”
  • “Not trying as hard as he needs to.”

Yup he had a poor game that night. Didn't look good at all.

What about the two nights we have video of him "pulling the chute"? Or was just those one shifts of those games, he just didn't feel like taking a hit to make a play?
You posted the same two videos from game 4 last year a few times. In the first Hrudy says in game three he tried to defend Marner - but not in game 4.

Enjoy another first round playoff exit this year.

This is what you are defending, and I'll never be able to make sense of that.

I don’t get how you can’t grasp that quality matters over quantity. The numbers are simple, many other teams similar to the leafs don’t spend more than what the leafs spend on their bottom six. The key difference is they have quality, FAST players in their bottom six that out perform their contracts. The leafs pro scouting staff has been awful at this under Shanahan.

The leafs don’t need to SPEND MORE on their bottom six, they need to get BETTER and FASTER players in their bottom six. That doesn’t require MORE $. It requires better scouting and a change of organizational philosophy. Paying MORE for your bottom six is a sure fire way be mediocre for a long time and end up with horrible, unmovable contracts without retention.

Before you try and use Colorado’s recent moves as an example, the players they brought in were TOP 6 players. Not bottom 6. And even then I’m not sure they’ll be able to keep Brock Nelson. Additionally look at the cost of those players, they have them on retention/good deals.

Lastly, it shouldn’t really matter too much who’s in the bottom six as long as your top guys dominate in the playoffs. That’s the leafs problem, our core doesn’t perform at a high level, so spending more on shitty players isn’t going to solve anything if Mitch, Matthews, Willy and JT do not produce above PPG or damn near it.

That upset a lot of fans but after they paid tavares/matthews/marner the crazy amts they got, I'd be upset too if I was nylander. We are lucky nylander signed a team friendly deal which is why people forgave him.

Didn’t Nylander sign before both Matthews and Marner? So how could that have been the reason he held out/be upset?

Its very evident that Marner decided he's going to shoot the puck more which creates more scoring opportunities from his shot and from making his playmaking more effective too because of the goalie and defence having to respect his shot. McDavid started doing the same thing a couple years ago. Good to see

He said that years ago he never followed through on it

The guys you love to compare Marner to so much McDavid, MacKinnon, Nylander, you ever see them pulling the chute? Defensively, Marner is better than all of them.

You wouldn't know that though, you only watch highlight reels.

The overwhelming concensus if the hockey community disagrees with us and you show two clips of Hrudey and Bizz??

Why not just look at his TOI, why has Keefe and Berube consistently given Marner the most TOI for forwards on his team? Wouldn't you give your best players the most ice time if you were coaching?

"Dreadful the last four years" are you serious?

Either way the POs will deliver the verdict. This is a conference finals or bust year. Winning round 1 alone is not success and should not in any circumstances be considered as such. We must win 2 rounds.

Hes the best conditioned forward on the team imo but is it possible that the two coaches are wrong ? If we’re another first round exit is it possible playing marner too much is a reason why? We’ve seen marner make stupid mental errors on the penalty kill too He makes the same stupid mistakes others make he just does it at the wrong time and when people are questioning your effort in a playoff game at all you don’t deserve to wear a letter and you need to be held accountable only problem is with keefe he knew he couldn’t anytime he even mentioned something negative about him he had to walk it bacc there’s an interview where marner was asked about what keefe said and he gave an authoritative response as if he’s higher up on the chain of command chief looks no better but he has a reputation of being a nut so we shall see if he walks anything bacc cause marners known for dumb mental errors

I agree, I just don't know why it needs to be said after every single game that Marner plays well.

Bad game - "Marner sucked!!"

Good game - "Ya, but let's wait till playoffs"

Marner is a top line guy on pretty much every team. I think the only difference is in another market, when he makes some silly mistakes he’s probably getting a shift off or getting some minutes taken away. In smaller markets that kind of stuff doesn’t get blown out of proportion here, so I understand why coaches don’t do it here. Even in a tough market like Boston, if Pastrnak is benched the coach answers max 1,2 questions about it. In Toronto, gets blown up and it’s 3 days worth of content. Look at the Cam York shit, I promise if Torts does that against Columbus for example, I won’t think it gets blown up as much as it does. Torts probably gets fired still but the whole situation isn’t as highlighted
