That's all well and good but if he is truly not committed to this team, do a Tkachuk and allow the team to get a return.

He is committed to the Leafs. He just wants to be overpaid like everyone else. That's the team's culture. Marner would be the odd one out if he doesn't bend the Leafs over a barrel.

These are their options:
1. Leafs can decide to overpay him like they did with everyone else.
2. He can walk for nothing.

This scenario didn't just spring up out of nowhere. The Leafs created it.

See. That’s the point. She wasn’t pregnant then. She is now. So he is doing that. He is asking ether to move if he wants to leave in the summer while pregnant and have a new born in a new country.

You would give up an extra year to make sure your team doesn’t looks assets? Teams don’t care about draft picks.

Would you take less money so they don’t have to drop players to fit you in?

It’s a bizzare move
JT took less money and left a 8th year off his contract to come to Toronto. And its not like Marner is really losing 12-13 mil by losing that 8th year. If he still wants to play after the 7 year contract, he will sign be able to sign another contract at that time, yea probably not for 12-13 mil, but I doubt it will be for league min.

I love it

Was hearing all year how the brass can force Marner to be traded and guess what?

He holds all the cards like he should on that agreed contract. The same NMC Tre gave Willy and 34.

He wants to be a leaf and told the brass that. Now it will come down to the final days for the leafs to make the offer to keep him or let him walk.

His agent knows the market value of marner and knows teams will pay.

Happy for Marner and he absolutely owns the leafs nothing.

Our all time pts leader and one of our greatest leafs in Sundin got so disrespected when he was in a similar position and fans treated him terrible because he didn’t agree to a trade. Fletcher went thru the media to make Sundin a bad guy and a lot of leaf fans ate it up as gospel

And in reality Sundin should of been resigned and retired a leaf

Now this is a bit different as Marner isn’t at the end of his career but I would love to see the leafs resign him to a max contract.

Will be exciting to see how these playoffs play out.

We didn't say go to him timedly and say "Sorry sir, we don't mean to offend we just gotta ask (lol totally not asking you to waive) oh ok no problem sir."

We said to make him uncomfortable but management is not willing to do that. This management team has shown they will not make hard decisions.

Part of asking him to waive for the Rantonen trade, you'd think, would be Brad letting him know that if he wants to Montour himself to the highest bidder garbage team, we're not going to match. When he refuses at that point, he's just out and out screwing the team.

Tkachuck shopped himself around during the off-season when teams knew their Cap Space and weren't interrupting the season.

Leafs can still sign him in the off-season to give him the 8th. year in a sign and trade.

Personally, I don't see him signing for 8 years anyway.

I doubt the Cane's wanted an unsigned marner who could walk in the summer. They didn't want an unsigned Rantanen for the same reason.

I hear Carolina has some real nice Golf courses an they are in full swing by the time his playoffs are over. Here he has to wait a month before he can tee off.

Make him uncomfortable ? So the contract means nothing? That’s a great way to entice free agents .

easy fix is don’t offer NMC in contracts. GM’s make these decisions and then don’t take accountability.

You know how you entice free agents? Winning. Showing you want to win.

Winning cures all but reneging on a contract is never a good look.
It’s always the same story. GM’’s overspend give out stupid NMC in contracts and then cry poor me we can’t trade him because he won’t waive the NMC that they both agreed on

It’s like our society nowadays…never any accountability on decisions or acts made

Doesn't stop other organizations from doing it who pull every free agent. New York Rangers and Vegas being two recent examples.

Pretty sure, if Canadians are still allowed, he could afford to jet down for a couple weeks of golf.

As they used to say in Bermuda, "My NameThatNationality can take care of the house and baby chores."

And the sailing as well. Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama. Good team with early playoff exits, seems like the perfect fit.

Carolina inquired about Marner AFTER they already traded for rantanen. Offered him money and it became clear he wouldn’t sign.
Because Marner wasn't an option. When it was between an unsigned Marner or unsigned Rantanen, they preferred Marner.
you have not provided a single piece of evidence.
You just don't listen.
you have no proof that agents/gma value assists the same as goals.
That was never the argument. Agents/GMs historically value primary assists the same as goals.

1.) no. Your premise was that rantanen was seen as worse because his team “dumped him”. By the hockey world. Marners team just tried to “dump him” the exact same way.

There is nothing to suggest why Marner wasn’t an option 2 weeks ago when they went for rantanen.

We know that
Both teams GMs tried to dump them. Carolina pursued rantanen first.
When rantanen told them no our GM offered Marner

Our gm preferred to sign Marner then give up 1 1 Cowan knies for rantanen.
We know that multiple teams wanted rantanen. We don’t know multiple teams wanted Marner.

2.) show the “actual hockey world”

3.) show any evidence or reference or correlation ever that primary assist are predictive of contracts on the level of goals. Show one quote of a gm referencing primary assists in a contract

What about the most likely scenario
Mitch has an underwhelming postseason and he is re-signed

I don’t think that’ll happen. Treliving asked him if he’d waive his NMC, which is more than anyone in power so far has done to get Mitch out of here. I don’t believe he’ll re-sign Mitch to his inflated ask if he’s a non-factor in the playoffs, regardless of how far the Leafs go.

If they do re-sign him though in those circumstances then fine. It’s just more of this franchise doing what it always does. If Mitch gets $13 million AAV over 8 years that’s an overpayment but the Leafs are used to overpaying their starts. At least the cap rising may help this time around instead of staying out for years on end.

Either way I can’t get worked up about this anymore.
